Wow....you were right...and as much as it pains me to say it: I probably looked like a total dumb-ass over the course of my past several posts. The Bible says that two of very single species of animal in the world fit on one boat with enough food for all of them for 40 days. Apparently, Noah's boat was designed 4-dimensionally (bigger on the inside than it is on the outside) because that's a lot of animals.

What makes more sense is that there was a large flood in the Middle East about 6000 years ago and Noah got almost every species of animal they knew of in that part of the world on one big boat. Over the course of years, the story was imbued with myth and religion, ending with the story we have now. When I step back and look at stuff like that, the Bible just doesn't make sense any more. What really changed my mind was a book you can find here: http://revcom.us/downloads/file_info/download1.php?file=scienceofevolution.pdf. I'm not a communist, but I like what they say about religion. I'm atheist again, for what it counts. I've come to the conclusion that my religion is bullshit, but I'm not gonna rock the boat about it with my family. I can see now that religion is rooted in ignorance. The Greek and Roman gods are a great example. They attributed gods to forces of nature. If there was a storm at sea, it was because the god of the ocean was angry. We now know that these things are naturally caused; in fact, we take it for granted. The more I learn, the less religion makes sense. Let's hope this leap of common sense sticks in spite of my religious surroundings.

Utnapishtim, actually. Not Noah. The story is actually much older.
You should also check out Bart Ehrman - The Lost Gospel of Judas Iscariot .There were alot of gospels kept out of the bible, because they were to far fetched.Like the crap in there now isn't.Alot of people believed that Jesus was not born of a virgin, but the orothdox church thinking sex is sin wouldn't allow Jesus to be born from intercourse. The Gospel of Judas is of course gnostic considered gospel.Gospel of Mary,Gospel of Philip,Gospel of Thomas,Gospel of Truth,The Book of Adam and Eve,Book of Jubilees, Infancy Gospel of Thomas,Proto-Gospel of James,Book of Enoch,Gnostic Scriptures of Nag Hammadi,Apocalypse of Peter,Second Apocalypse of Peter,Zohar ,Testament of Solomon ,Alphabet of Ben-Sira,Bel and the Dragon, Secret Gospel of Mark and Gospel of Nicodemus were all banned from the bible.I know there were a few more but I have yet to find them all.

Oh come on, NearBr0ken, you're not giving the story enough credit for being even more ridiculous than that

Consider:
Genesis 6:19 "Of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark."
Genesis 7:8 ,9 ,15 "Of clean beast and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowl ... there went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God commanded Noah."
Ok, so 2 of each. Right?
Genesis 7:2 "Of every clean beast thou shalt take thee by sevens, the male and his female. "
Ok, 7 clean. But Genesis 6:19 said 2 of everything, so it would appear that Genesis 7:2 is an interpolation to make Genesis conform to Mosaic law.
So, how long did the flood last?
150 - 370 days, depending on which verses you use to calculate the flood time.
