Hi there.

I'm in Los Angeles, in the United States. I am very interested in Turkey; my friends and I were fascinated by an article last week about the secular movement in Turkey. Can you tell us more about the role of religion in your society?

thanks loffler and afreethinker30

dear loffler,
you know Ottoman Empire was a muslim country but Turkey is a laic (since 1934) and democratic republic (since 1923).
we have churchs, synagogues and mosques that are near each others, have jew and christian citizens too.we have approximately 4-5 millions atheist citizens.i'm an atheist since when i was 14 years old and i have never experienced a trouble because of my opinions about islam.some europeans and americans may think that turkey is an iraq or iran because of their media but we are not one of they suppose. But i accept that we have so long road to reach the democracy in its real meaning.

i will be so happy if you correct me when i say something wrong to grammer rules.

thanks for your interesting in me and my country.

yours truly

No problem. Here's a free grammar fix:

Dear Loffler,
You know, the Ottoman Empire was a Muslim country but Turkey is a laic [most people use the word secular] (since 1934) and democratic republic (since 1923).
We have churches, synagogues and mosques that are near each other, and have Jew and Christian citizens, too. We have approximately 4-5 million atheist citizens. I've been an atheist since I was 14 years old and have never experienced trouble because of my opinions about Islam. Some Europeans and Americans may think that Turkey is an Iraq or Iran because of their media, but we are not one as they suspect. But I accept that we have a long road ahead to achieve democracy in its real meaning.

I would be very happy if you would correct me when I say something wrong according to grammar rules.

Thanks for your interest in me and my country.

Yours Truly,

Jagatai

Welcome jagatai! You're English is actually quite good. If you hadn't have mentioned that you didn't know it that well, I wouldn't have guessed it wasn't your first language (I know many fluent English-speakers that have worse grammar, sadly). Proper grammar makes me happy so I'll be glad to help.  :)[/quote]
"I just want to improve my English so I don't shame ('embarrass' is another word) myself. :)"
Words like "Wanna" and "Gonna" are perfectly acceptable on forums and such (IMO-in my opinion).

Have a fantastic posting experience!
