As for sorcery...of course it's true, JK Rowling wrote an entire series that is very, very popular. The books have even got some Latin in them so they must be true. Just give the book some 2000 years and they'll be sayin' it's fact, y'all.
I am pleased and proud that you are one of us Hermes. Happy birthday. and here's to many more.

Probably less then that. Some people believe they are really Jedi. (Which happens to be the source religion of all religions because it happened a long long time ago)

Yeah, you're right. If the Christian Bible is anything to go by it'll be way less for sure. Maybe a generation...

My not-any-longer-step-brother is on the schizophrenia forum I frequent. He doesn't have schizophrenia but I know it's him by the profile picture. I haven't had a chance to message him to see wtf he is doing there because he is not supposed to be there unless he has a psychotic illness.

How many days has this party lasted, so far? Oh, who cares, who's counting!?

I still have residual memories of organic chemistry that haunt my dreams, among them the chirality of certain molecules, though the way I remember it, its supposed to be L and R, or the Latin equivalent S and D. If so, then that pic has mixed them both.

This was always quite interesting to teach undergraduates when I was an academic. Some found it very difficult to think in three dimensions, while others had no problem at all. Organic chemistry is really miniature architecture, which is probably one of the reasons I became an organic chemist. One very often finds that organic chemists love art, especially sculpture. I have met some very good amateur artists who were organic chemists.

Well, it's been a while. I'll have to look it up. I remember it being left and right, but then if they're using Latin or some other language for the words, it could be other letters. Plus, I've never been good at remembering the names of things.

R and S are used in a different system whereby one uses a set of unambiguous rules to assign an R or S label to a molecule to describe its chirality. D and L are an older system where (+)-glyceraldehyde is assigned the D label, and other molecules are then labeled using (+)-glyceraldehyde as the reference.

Indeed Hermes Birthday greetings have emerged as a heady philosophical as well as cosmological conversation. I rather liked the linked Scientific American article in which Laurence Krause so eruditely replied to his challengers with their philosophical bent. Then Gloucesters' pun with the Focault reference...swinger, was plumb funny.
Keep up the good work folks. You have elevated this thread, hijacked perhaps but elevated nonetheless.
