Title: Oh no he didn't!Trial underway in naked-jogger case.
Post by: afreethinker30 on June 19, 2008, 04:55:56 AM
Jury selection has begun in the trial of a Catholic priest arrested for jogging naked just before sunrise last June.

Jurors selected for the case won't be told the Rev. Robert Whipkey, 54, is a priest because a Weld County judge ruled last month that fact was irrelevant to the charge of indecent exposure.

Jurors are to begin hearing testimony today. There will be no opening statements because of a defense attorney's objection about widespread media coverage.

An off-duty police officer in Frederick spotted Whipkey walking nude toward his home about 4:30 a.m. in June 2007. He told the officer he had just finished jogging near the high school and didn't think anyone would be around at that time of the morning.

Whipkey also told police he sweats profusely if he wears clothing while jogging, saying: "I know what I did was wrong."

Could he not call his indecent exposure a "work of art" and use freedom of expression as a shield?
