Title: Food znd drink
Post by: Dave on August 10, 2016, 05:57:33 PM
Some time ago I pickled some short sticks of cellery, carrot and cucumber in a 50:50 malt:balsamic vinegar mix - with black peppercorns.

Too many black peppercorns.

:panic:

Still nice and crunchy. Just hot, nice and crunchy . . .

What strange concept is it, this of which you speak?  :???:

:bleh: Ugh, I hate anything that resembles a pepper in look or taste. I do love the opposite though (mint).

On reflection, for that size if jar, half a dozen would have been plenty. But, the only ones I had were in the mill. Should have shaken a few out into my palm, not tried to tip them out over the heating vinegar! Half a mill load went in.

OK, so I could still have got some out but I have always been an experimental cook and believe in serendipity.

My dipity was not so seren this time.

Oh yeah, peppercorns. Can't have too many of those. I might have added some capers to the mix and even some tiny white onions. Actually cauliflower sticks are an alright addition to the pickled mix and more than that, judicious use of certain boozes  can embellish the flavors of the vinegar vehicle.

I would ordinarily agree on the existence of "too many" peppercorns, however I just had Cesar salad and apparently got a whole one stuck in a molar, which I discovered whilst brushing my teeth. I'm off the whole thing now.

Never tried them but, after eating a scotch bonnet for a bet . . .

Don't think I'll bother again! Leave those up to you fire eaters.

Asmos eat fire and fart fire. And when they do, Universes are born.

BOW BEFORE HIM!  >:(

No, really. Most of my dishes are just as hot going out as they are going in. It can be... Weird for the uninitiated.  ;D

I had no idea He was that brave!  :smokin cool:
Habaneros!? Really!? Wow!? Those are just a little bit too much for me. (https://www.happyatheistforum.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nusseymagazine.com%2FphpBB3Next%2Fimages%2Fsmilies%2Fsmiley_emoticons_hot.gif&hash=24d0e9b3af1e3b124058a58101270b4fcd448505) I'm not crazy about the Habanero flavor either.
I love chiles, I eat them everyday with everything.  :yum:
My man is from Mexico, they even put chile in their candies, and their drinks.  :maracas:

If you get tired of Habaneros, I recommend Chile Pequin:

Easy way to make ice cream even if you have no ice cream maker:

Put banana, peanut butter, sugar etc - basically any combination of thickener, oil and sugar - into a liquidiser and zap to a cream. Put this into ice cube moulds and freeze.

For a serving take out as many cubes as you need and rezap them in the liquidiser.

Will be trying it after next shopping trip!

I love dark chocolate with chilli in it. Lindt is a bit tame but a small brand called Montezuma do a good one. The also do rock salt and one with an incredibly bitter dried berry in it - good taste contrasts.

I've tried just about everything with chile, but not chocolate.  :notsure:

Ooh! I wish I still had the bag for a picture, but a Mexican friend gave us some mango lollipops, coated with some kind of chili powder. They were so gross, even my kids wouldn't eat them! It was just too weird.

I've had those! My man and one of my boys love them. I don't like them too much, actually, I don't like them at all.  :-\ My man's family keep putting them in Piñatas all the time.

Actually, all the kids love them.  :shifty:
There's only a few of us who don't like them...but it's OK to be one of the weirdos who don't like them too much...or at all.

One of the posh brands over here does a hot chocolate drink powder with chilli as well. Had some bought me for my birthday once. It is a bit like Tia Maria and Coke (plus Vodka for a cocktail with a now non-PC name), sounds weird but really a flavour combination that works.

Hmm, chillied Coke . . . . With vodka!

Double, hmm, I made some chilli vodka once as a culinary ingredient . . .

(The version with cinnamon and cloves went great, by the teaspoonful, in coffee.)
