I stand alone
Just on my own
Not very long
Nor yet too terse
I am just a uni-verse.
Me
Thank you, Gloucester. :)
I don't have any verse to contribute, but I think a poetry thread is a good idea.
Not to abuse an esoteric thread but, Are bawdy limericks permitted?
There once was a man from Boston
Who traded his Ford for an Austin
He had room for his ass and a gallon of gas
But his balls hung out and he lost 'em.
(apologies to the more sophisticated members)
AN Ogden Nash favorite, not particularly poetic:
Candy is dandy
But liquor is quicker.

Anything that rhymes!
A certain young man called Menzies
Drove all the young girls into frenzies
But a virgin, one night,
Crossed her legs in a fright
And broke his bifocal lenses.
Yes, but will The Asmo jump at the excuse to write poetry this time? That is the real question.
In any case, there is already a fair amount of His poetry floating around the forum.

I think there already is a poetry thread (somewhere) or was...
The camel's a peculiar animal,
Stranger than anyone thinks,
At the height of the mating season,
It tries to bugger the Sphinx,
But the Sphinx's anal orifice,
Is blocked by the sands of the Nile,
Which explains the hump on the camel,
And the Sphinx's inscrutable smile.
Since posting that last I have found a version of the song (http://www.odps.org/glossword/index.php?a=term&d=5&t=166) from which it came, and a different version of that verse.
Here is another:
In the process of civilization,
From anthropoid ape down to man,
It is generally held that the navy,
Has buggered whatever it can.
Yet recent extensive researches,
By Darwin and Huxley and Hall,
Have conclusively proven that the hedgehog,
Cannot be buggered at all.

I like that one.

Yes, I think you're right. I couldn't be bothered to try to find something that might not even be here anymore, though.

There was a Haiku thread if I recall correctly...and then there was Nam's poetry thread. ::)
I found two with a quick search;
This one is relatively recent, as HaF poetry goes (http://www.happyatheistforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=10068.0)
One of my lesser works (http://www.happyatheistforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=5884.msg84973;topicseen#msg84973)
EDIT: There was also a limerick thread. Did that not survive? The posts seem to be in the DB. I might need to fix some flags.
I remember contributing something along the lines of
There once was an Asmo both Gray and amazing
His penis was covered in sugary glazing
You could suck it for hours,
But I swear by the powers
It would taste like He hasn't been bathing
...Or some such. :???:
The sexes on Venus are three,
Inconvenient you must agree,
To perform, con brio,
It takes a full trio,
And it even needs two for a pee.
(Paraphrased from a well known sci-fi writer, in the 1960s, whom I cannot now remember!)
Gloucester, that sounds very much like something that might have been penned by Ogden Nash. Nash was, to the best of my knowledge, a bawdy humorist but not a sci-fi guy.

'Twas definitely a sc-fi writer. Think there was another starting,
"A space ship from Alpha Centauri
Once caused a front page story,
but I cannot remember the rest.
Another from deep memory,
A certain young chap named Bright
Attained velocities faster than light
He set off one day
In a relative way
And returned the previous night.
