Hi everyone,
I'm Zen and I love discussing, reading about and generally cogitating assorted views on Atheism and related ephemera.
Ideas come and go, and I've always found it useful to question what I think I know as fact. There was an interesting point about 'facts' in the post I read on, 'Discussion'. I assume if the discussion is about the nature of 'facts' then looking it up is not going to be helpful.
I do have some very different ideas about things from most people, but they are well considered and researched, I'm not one to take up on flights of fancy. My personal take on philosophy originate in and builds on Giles Deleuze's work on identity which is then informed by evolutionary psychology and quantum physics along the way. I'd probably describe my views as stark and disinterested, or at least as disinterested as I can be.
I like old Science Fiction B-movies and new ones too. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and immersing myself in some meaty topics.

I'm Asmo. I don't love, but I do find some momentary pleasure in a good intellectual workout on a broad range of topics (at least those that do not involve sports, outdoor lifestyle and activities and the like)
I approve of stark, if not necessarilly disinterested. If interest causes bias, however... Well, that's one difference between the theoretical and the practical aspects of a concept, I suppose. I tend not to label myself as no shoe truly fits, but if anything, I suppose I'm a fatalist without the fate part. What will be, will be, yet what will be, must not be.
I like "superbudget" Sci-Fi. A book may well be ill judged by its cover, but a shiney cover can, in my subjective experience, save a crappy-to-mediocre story on the big screen. I greatly enjoyed Avatar, for example, even though the story was so thin it was basically transparent. They more than compensated with the overall amount of excellent CGI. The best Sci-Fi movies and series though, are those, which manage to combine the latest and greatest in computer graphics technology with storylines deviating from the much-used good vs. evil humans vs aliens concept. A.I - Artificial Intelligence is a fair example of such.

Anyway, I'm sure you'll find some like minded members here who'll give you the intellectual workout you desire.
By the way not sure if you are into Zen at all or if I'm guessing correctly it's simply short for Zenith, but here is one of my favorite Zen quotes.
American dog say, 'Woof, woof.' Korean dog say, 'Mung, mung.' Polish dog say, 'How, how.' So which dog barking is correct?
That is human beings' barking, not 'dog' barking.
If dog and you become one hundred percent one, then you know sound of barking.

Welcome! I'm not generally one for meaty topics, so . . . what are your favorite B SF movies? My top favorite is "Attack of the Mushroom People".
