Title: Festivus II
Post by: Icarus on November 13, 2015, 09:18:54 PM
The season is upon us and the latest news is that Starbucks are out to destroy Christianity.  It seems that their seasonally decorated paper cups vary from the usual red on top, fading to a cranberry color below, are being replaced by a different color scheme.

The new cup is red on top, as before, but the bottom has a different mottled brown color. A week ago a self described evangelist named Joshua Feurstein posted a video on Facebook criticizing Starbucks effort to take Christ out of Christmas by designing cups devoid of seasonal symbols.  His video has garnered millions of views and has been pronounced by pundits as the latest trope in longstanding complaints by religious conservatives that American companies are waging a "War on Christmas".

Trump got in on the deal by telling a crowd of thousands in Springfield, Illinois, " No more Merry Christmas on Starbucks".  "Maybe we should boycott Starbucks, I don't know.

For those who believe that the nation was founded on Christian principles, there is this...........The Puritans banned celebrations in the belief that the holidays' December timing had its roots in pagan worship.

Until people are arrested and put into tribunals and forced answer questions like, "are you now or have you ever celebrated Christmas?" and then arrested and blacklisted by mere suspicion of having something to do with Christmas or happened to have attended a Christmas gathering, I'm not going to think that Christmas is under attack.

How bizarre.

It's almost like some people don't have anything better to do with their lives.  ::)

As if claims of a "War on Christmas", and Christian persecution in the US were not ridiculous enough, this one really kind of takes the cake.

Firstly, the cups have, to my knowledge, always had secular symbols of Christmas on them. So, the cups being red to signify the holiday only really acknowledges those secular symbols less, as the fact that it's red already obviously signifies they're symbolizing this particular holiday.

Secondly, this whole commotion is occurring among one of the - if not the - earliest starts of a Christmas season ever. My local Walmart replaced the Garden section with Christmas back in mid September. In addition, all of the Halloween candy was cleared out a week before Halloween so they could put Christmas candy up... Oh... and what's this? Could it be?:

That's right! Those very words are said, at Walmart! Not only are they said where pictured, they are said at the top of every single grocery aisle in the store!

Christmas is flipping everywhere! There is no attempt to shove it out of our culture, if anything it's being shoved down our throats. Sure, it's consumerism... But so is whether or not Starbucks puts 'Merry Christmas' on their cups or not.

Not a war, but perhaps a protest?  ;D
