Title: GOD STILL LOVES YOU, DONT HATE HIM
Post by: Edizzle on February 19, 2008, 08:12:06 AM
I hate being told that. As if I, an atheist who believes god doesn't exist, would say, "HE LOVES ME?! SHIT, I BELIEVE NOW!"

I'm kind of tired of virtually everybody I know being a bible-thumping Jesus-freak (I'm a Mexican who has a very large Mexican family in an 80% Mexican neighborhood...Catholicism is the default) in real life and on the net, so I've come here to see if there really were any atheists aside from me and these two guys I know.

Seems like a good place, I've read a few posts and all seems to be well here.

Something that intrigues me about Atheism is why people lean towards it, and when.

Personally, what dragged me over the agnostic fence over onto the full-blown atheism side was the fact that there are about a trillion gods, and the countless contradictions of religion.

I first uttered the words "I don't believe in god" to myself October of last year. A bit funny, since a few months prior, I was in Jesus-camp "speaking tongues"!

Then I was 13, now I'm 14. Interested in knowing when it is most atheists come to be who they are.

I am a recovering catholic myself. I have always said that catholics make the best atheists.

Welcome to the boards. I hope you find the answers you seek. Although, all the fun is in the searching I guess.

I'd be pretty interested in hearing about your experiences at jesus camp.

Started to question the existence of god when I was 12. Now I'm 21, I'm glad I had that question all my life which drove me to a conclusion that there is no god!

Since you're that ripe age, read some Joseph Campbell or Richard Dawkins books.

Welcome, Edizzle. Thanks for the background. Yes, you are not alone in this. Lots of former everything here, including catholics.  :)

Oooh, a two-fer!  Welcome Edizzle and jaymayo.

I think the teenage years are ripe with freethought possibilities.  Sadly, most teens just rebel by smoking and having sex.  Why not do all three?   :D

Anyway guys, enjoy your stay here at the forum.

I didn't start asking serious questions until I was 30.  Even then it took me about 5 years to let go of the religious delusion.
