QuoteSurvey: 'Unchurched' Americans see hypocrisy, no differences in gods

A new survey of U.S. adults who don't go to church, even on holidays, indicates 72 percent say "God, a higher or supreme being, actually exists." But just as many, 72 percent, also say the church is "full of hypocrites."

Indeed, 44 percent agree with the statement, "Christians get on my nerves."

That last line just kills me!  (There is more to the article.)

I went through a "the church sucks but there's probably a god" phase, so I can understand where these people are coming from.  It's just a hop, skip and a jump to atheism.  Come on in...the water is fine.

Apathetics. I'm generally indifferent about them.

I find God every time I look in the mirror....because I am a god in my mind.

What is God?? Is he a person? A figment, maybe a all powerfull being??  Some call him allah, some christ, still others buda,  Or maybe you are a God.    Well the question of where there is a God, and then of course where is he, is one that has been past down through the centuries.   I Personally have turned to atheism because of experiences that I have went through growing up, and for some time i have been trying to disprove the bible.  Unfortunately I have not yet been able to.  Although I think that God has wronged me, of there is a God.  I'm not able to disprove the bible.  Because of what I went through disproving the bible has become my lifes work.  From prophacies fulfilled to archeology I have not been able to disprove it.  Can anyone helP?//   IS anyone else out there goin through this journey as I am??????????

As Bill Hicks very aptly put it: "dinosaurs".

Incidentally I'm not convinced. For future impersonation tactics, I suggest you first learn to understand what makes an atheist an atheist. We don't disbelieve the Bible because we're all miserable old grumpy-pots, God wronged us and therefore he isn't real. Like it or not, we're the ones with the logic. I, for one, bathe in the ongoing ecstasy that is my life from dusk until dawn every day of the year... except today because I stubbed my toe on a table leg this morning. This has led me to feel slightly BITTER and DEFEATIST in light of all the dread filled furniture that God has placed around me. Why God? Why do you wrong me so!?

Don't let my depressing anecdotes put a damper on your day though. Please continue with whatever it is you think you're doing. I shall observe quietly from yonder flaming bush.

Personally, I've been through plenty of shit in my life... been knocked around and had some pretty bad experiences that, upon reflection with age, were none of my doing.  I don't blame god and try to disprove the bible because I'm confident that the bible was written by nomads to justify their lack of scientific knowledge.  They used their baseless belief on a supernatural being to make sense of the things they couldn't know had a basis in science, be it physical or social.

Because of that knowledge, I don't need to investigate any further.  I've read the bible and 98% of it is hocum, hocus pocus, fantasy or fairy tale.  Any prophecy fulfillment is purely conjecture or coincidence.

I have other things to fight for other than disproving a book that doesn't deserve the time I'd spend disproving it.  Like getting someone into political office who can make a difference in this country or make sure my son's school doesn't pull some "intelligent design" course crap.

No offense intended... I just think your time would be better spent thinking of positive things, not negative.
