In a Louisiana public school, female students who are suspected of being pregnant are told that they must take a pregnancy test. Under school policy, those who are pregnant or refuse to take the test are kicked out and forced to undergo home schooling.
Welcome to Delhi Charter School, in Delhi, Louisiana, a school of 600 students that does not believe its female students have a right to education free from discrimination. According to its Student Pregnancy Policy, the school has a right to not only force testing upon girls, but to send them to a physician of the school administration's choice. A positive test result, or failure to take the test at all, means administrators can forbid a girl from taking classes and force her to pursue a course of home study if she wishes to continue her education with the school.
It's always so sad, and so revealing, when you discover that states like Louisiana also rank among the highest in teen birth rate. So they refuse to educate their kids before they have sex, then punish them for doing so, and more people suffer. Horrible.

it's just so stone age--
it's so simple to educate all teens (of both genders) about safe sex. Just telling them "DONT HAVE SEX. SEX IS EVIL" is insane and does way way more harm than good. I mean, sex is normal and natural, especially as a teenager. I'm sorry, but i barely meet anyone who hasn't had sex at least once as a teen. Some don't and that's fine, but for all, let's educate them so in case it DOES happen, it isn't a terrible experience.
I'm sick of girls getting all the 'shame shame shame' as well, while boys can just stick their dicks into anything and get no punishment. this way of thinking where only females get the blame and made to feel guilt has to stop.
Speechless at the attitude being shown here. Saudi Arabia would be proud of this sort of behaviour. Exactly where if freedom in the home of the free now?

Withholding knowledge from their youth seems to be the solution to their problems.

These people shouldn't be allowed to give birth if they aren't going to even attempt to parent properly. This is beyond disgraceful, and shows a great deal about our nation.

Haha, my thoughts exactly.

...And presumably the same goes for the careless schoolkids who get knocked up?? :-\
One rule for all please.
Just what Lousianna needs more of....more teens that were unable to finish their education and thus are at a greater disadvantage to becoming productive members of society. ::) What do you bet that the same people who would kick a girl out for "being pregnant" are also super pro-life? Way to make it that much more likely that girls will feel like they have no other choice but to abort, or else lose out on their education. Smart thinking, guys! ::)

Don't expect reason from these people. ::)

there's nothing wrong with aborting if you are young and not ready. I'm not a fan of "well, there's always adoption :D :D" as the adoption system is fucking aweful and there are too many unwanted kids there to begin with.
My biggest issue is that these girls end up in this situation mainly because of lack of ability to reason due to lack of EDUCATION. It's such a terrible cycle... :(
I think it's their choice if they want to abort too, I'm just saying that I think the ultra-conservative types are shooting themselves in the foot by endorsing a program that could lead to more abortions, when ultra-sonservative types HATE abortion.

I know, it's so ironic X-x;
Frankly I think this policy is stupid, but, I have a few questions on the subject.
1) How does this policy apply in the cases of pregnancy brought about by rape?
2) What does this policy say happens after the girl has given birth, Is she still excluded from attending school?
3) Are they going to require paternity testing? And if they do, will they apply the same punishment to the father should he happen to be a student.

My guess is sometimes this might happen (in regards to 1,) but who knows if they would actually enforce the law, and even if they did-- would they still shame the mother and force her to have it? ugh.. makes me sick thinking about it. >:(
