So, this is a thread dedicated to tattoos.
What you got?
Where you got it?
Why'dyou get it?
You regret it?
You want more?
What's on your wish list?
Here's mine I got inked about 5 years ago after my Daughter was born. I designed it myself. It's the planetary symbols of the birthsigns of my wife, my son, my daughter and myself. It's across the top of my back and I love it. I'm planning to get another and am working on some designs, stylised around the theme of bikes.

And here's the design I made for my wife who had it inked on her wrist last month (at selfridges no less).(https://www.happyatheistforum.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm9.staticflickr.com%2F8283%2F7552666826_edb838889a_z.jpg&hash=66dc144942f40b76fa1f70a9d7dd148700f14363)
The stars represent me and the kids.
I haven't got one yet I am currently sitting on a design till next march and if I still like it I will get it done. It will primarily be on my chest and peeping up onto my neck. There are bits I am already unsure about, I love the concept and composition but the style isn't right yet, the problem is that my tastes change far too often.
It needs more thought.
Never had one, don't want one, like looking at good ones.
I almost want a small one on my ankle, but I would have to get over my fear of needles first.
I want one, but am never satisfied with the final sketches. I can draw well, just can't come up with something that I'm in love with. SL, yours is very pretty. :)

Pay somebody to do it if you aren't to keen on what you do yourself.
SL, you cad!
That is a really interesting design, and it's so much better than a name tattoo or ugly portrait. I think it represents something and someone special to you, without it being very obvious <3

Here's an up-close picture of the one I have on my foot. It's a pitcher plant (Newfoundland's provincial flower) apple blossoms ( they're all over Nova Scotia, where I was born) and blueberries (the first time I brought my husband home to visit my folks, we went blue-berry picking. Coincidentally, my son's favourite food is now blueberries, but I didn't know that when I got this done ).
I also have a black cross-pattern tattoo on my back, but it's almost 10-years old, faded, and totally looks like shit. I plan to get it covered up someday, but I can't decide what with. Now that I'm an atheist, maybe I'll get one of those dumb "VOID" red stamps tattoo'd over it, like some people do with their ex's names. :P
I don't think I'll want any more after I get the one on my back re-done. Two is a good number for me. If I get bored, I might pierce something again. :P

I haven't seen such a polychromatic example of the body- etcher's craft before. It's a mini-work of art, definitely a cut above the usual mundane effort.
Thank you, :) I designed it myself.

I'm genuinely impressed. You should leave your foot to a gallery in your will.
This is my one and only. Never do I desire another. It took years, careful planning, and a hell of an artist to submit even to this one. But I love it.

It's the myth of the Raven stealing the Sun, of Tlinget and Haida mythology - native cultures I grew up in proximity to. I've never exactly been clear on why I love that myth so much. Something about the character of the Raven, who flouts ban and convention, to steal a precious jewel for himself, and ends up lighting the world.
^ That's gorgeous! Love it.
Those are all awesome. I have 3, but you have to know me fairly well to get to see them. :P

Uh-oh. Now, you know we have over-active imaginations at the best of times. ;D

I don't have any. That is odd amongst my cohorts, as most of my friends and my wife all have one or more. I'm not against getting one, I just have never been moved enough to get one.
Part of it is I see my grandfather's tattoo on his forearm. He showed me a picture of it when he first got it when he joined the military. It was an eagle grasping an olive branch in its talons. Now it is a black blob. That scares me, even though I assume the tattoo technology of today is much better than in the early 40s when he got his. But the fact that they can fade and warp, and are so permanent means I have to have the right design and the right location before I'll jump in with both feet.
^ We demand photos. ;)
I don't have any and don't intend to, now. I just don't fancy any, and Mrs Git would go bananas.

awww I though something like what Rick Genest has would have turned the wife right on. ;D
You don't know Mrs Git.
I have a collection of decent scars (not scarification), and consider them more than adequate for my hide decoration needs. None of them are really ugly any more, at least. ;)

I have some nasty scars on my left shin, which is why I've been thinking of having them tattooed over. Not sure how fashionable large shin tattoos are though.

Every trend needs someone to kick it off.

they look good on the Japanese men i've seen them on. Japanese tattoos are my absolute favorite.
Just warning ya. The shins be a mighty painful spot.

Hmm...will have to do more googling of leg tattoos. I'm not even sure if it would be possible to do on the area I'm thinking of. The skin is very thin and hyperpigmented around the actual scars, and hurts like hell if I whack it (which I try to avoid). Even so, if the end result looked good, I'd endure it.

(you get the idea . . . it would have to cover a significant amount of surface area)
Tattoos over bone hurt like a sonofabitch. I don't think it'd be exaggerating to say that getting my foot tattoo done was excruciating. I'm glad I got it done, but I wouldn't get one on my other foot any time soon.

Do they not use numbing gels or something of the sort these days? Barbarians.

Hahaha, not where I've gone! I don't even think it would help, actually. It's the metal-y bits vibrating on your bones that really hurts. I don't think numbing the skin would really help. :-\
I would like to get a tatoo of a rooster somewhere on my body. Perhaps a cockfight, or a nopal.
I get Recusant's post and the scars telling the story, of course he was gored by the bull that Hemingway passed on and I was merely pecked on by a cockatoo, it's still similar in principle.
Tornado on my right arm. Got it in 2003 in Germany. Drew it myself. Includes a farmhouse, silo and tree. There are two cows and a car flying around in the tornado.
One of my hobbies is stormchasing. I've been doing it since I got my driver's license, 18 years ago. That was a year or two before the movie Twister came out, and before it became so popular.
I do not regret it. I do want more. I think my next one might be Leviticus 19:28. "Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print or tattoo any marks upon you: I am the Lord"
I really dig the irony of a tattoo that says that.
Fotos please Phester...
What would people that have tattoos say the pain is similar to?

Like being stuck with a needle 86,400 times (I did the maths).
Across the top of my back the first hour was OK but as the artist retraced his needle to colour-in, the second hour was quite uncomfortable. At worst it was maybe as painful as having sunburn lightly sandpapered.

Do it Fester, so I can live vicariously through you. ;-)
Crow, I'd say at first, the pain is similar to a bee sting (provided you aren't allergic, of course!). I have 7 tattoos, and almost all of them are over bony spots, but the one that goes from shoulder to shoulder and over my spine definitely hurt the worst, with the one below my left clavicle being a close second. I also have tattoos on each ankle, one on my wrist, one on the back of my neck, and one on the top of my right shoulder. Like someone else said, the vibration of the needle against bone is what really hurts. A lot of people say the outline hurts worse than the fill, but I feel the opposite, personally. And none of the tattoos I've gotten hurt as bad as getting my nipples pierced.
When I get a chance, I'll have to add the details and photos of my stuff. ;-)
I have a skull tattoo, but unless my friend who has a proper camera shows up with it and I remember this thread at the same time, chances of me posting a pic of it are rather slim.

Oooh, Where~? :D
Upper arm, left side
Don't have any tattoos yet, but I'm considering one that I've been thinking about a lot.
Something with an hourglass to signify the fact that life is short.
I was inspired by this tattoo, maybe something similar with the scroll reading "Life is not forever" Not too similar though, I want something original.
