Title: For the ladies - fashion thread
Post by: Amicale on June 29, 2012, 05:54:19 PM
OK, it's summer and we need a fun fashion thread here. Share your favourite looks, colour combinations, mention your favourite places to find great clothes, and for the LOA (love of Asmo) if you know of any awesome discounts, cheap online shops that you've personally used etc, please share those, too!

For me, I'm in the market for some decent skirts/cute dresses. I've got plenty of tshirts, shorts and jeans. I want to 'pretty' it up.  :D

I'm keeping my eyes open for stuff like this:

What are you ladies looking for, or have your eye on? :)

Svpply (https://svpply.com/) is pretty good for a random starting point on putting you in the right direction, basically filter it down to the category you want then click "buy" on a product which is in the style you like, this will take you to the proper website and you can have a browse from there and usually find even more stuff that you like.

Okay, I have some more time, so I'm going to post a proper response. As I wrote in the obsession thread, I've been obsessed with Modcloth (http://www.modcloth.com/) lately.

The following are some of my recent purchases  ;D

They do good stuff.
Ruche (http://shopruche.com/) and Boutique Onze (http://boutiqueonze.ca/) have similar items, but they don't update their inventory as often.

Ok here is a challenge for y'all.

Put together an outfit using images for a casual day out with friends, dont forget to include all accessories, nail colour, etc.

DJ, I really like those dresses from Modcloth! They also sell my size, which is awesome!  ;D The 4th and 5th dresses down are my favourites - the light blue, and the blue patterned one. SO pretty!

I found this one there at Modcloth, and I really like it:

(https://www.happyatheistforum.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fproductshots0.modcloth.com%2Fproductshots%2F0104%2F2270%2F70786af128439b9503fa6695f892016d.jpg%3F1332881060&hash=ef74e5de782d365809b959946f146cc99cf03184)

I went shopping at Walmart today and got a couple shirts, a housedress and some shorts. One of the shirts I got for me is very pretty and curvy, and black. Another's a vibrant green. For the kiddo I got bright rainbow and flowered tshirts (her choice!) and a couple adorable little sundresses.

Well that seems like a rather disappointing conservative choice, the colour is merely a pale reflection of your self.  Number three would have been a striking complimentary choice I think.

I'm not a fan of number three. That yellow color just would not look good on me.

I'm a bit disappointed. I came *this* close to buying an adorable dress from modcloth but decided to call them because I had a few questions, and it turns out that based on what she said, there was a pretty high chance that what I wanted wouldn't fit certain parts of me the way I wanted it to... so I'll just be keeping my eyes open for other styles, etc.

In the end, I'm happy with the simple black housedress I bought from Walmart.  :D It's so soft and flowy and comfy, and comes to my knees. Light material, not hot at all. Yay. It was about $15 too. I'm a fan of clothing that doesn't break the bank, seeing as I don't have much bank to break. ;)

Re: En_Route, that one is one of my favourites on, actually. I think I'm going to wear it to a wedding in a few weeks.

Re: Puddin', the yellow cardigan is one of my favourites.  ;D I like to wear it with a bright purple top that I have.

Re: Budhorse: I tend to like primary colours or earth tones. I think it depends on your skin tone. The pastel trend that's huge right now doesn't work for me at all. :(

Re: Amicale. Aw, that kinda sucks :( Better safe than sorry, though (especially since Modcloth doesn't do returns for Canadians). I've found that their sizing does tend to vary a lot.

I was going to remark what is evident to all, namely that I am sure that on you they will all look equally fabulous, when I recalled your husband is also on the forum and he might take violent exception to such blandishments.

DJ, I love the blue flowered dress.  So cute!

I tend to favor fitted or empire-waisted dresses/shirts on myself.  I'm curvy, so if I don't have something cinching me in the middle I tend to look boxy and bigger than I am.

Something like this, only preferably with straps because I don't entirely trust a strapless top to stay where it needs to be.  Also probably in a jewel tone because it looks better with my coloring.  Picture this shirt with straps, in a deep blue.

and then cuffed dark wash capris:

(https://www.happyatheistforum.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi46.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff131%2Faasaliman%2Fcapris.jpg&hash=d1bc8b59d1c32536340c962a23f3b3d8e56af621)

(Sorry Amicale, I know you asked for skirts and dresses but I'm just not that big on skirts and dresses.)

And strappy sandals:
(https://www.happyatheistforum.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi46.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff131%2Faasaliman%2Fstrappysandals.jpg&hash=24b1b6d7a98cabf19bbbe26f55cc8d7880592615)

Nails are natural or red, always.  Currently finger nails are natural and toe nails are that sparkly red I posted in the What's On Your Mind Thread.

Here:

Sorry Crow, I know you asked for accessories too, but I honestly rarely wear any jewelry other than my wedding ring:

(https://www.happyatheistforum.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi46.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff131%2Faasaliman%2F61a3909d.jpg&hash=29bbb25bb73e146267481f94b8984d9d78d8bc18)

But if you count my purse as an accessory, I'm usually rocking a cute one (I love purses and handbags.)

Current purse:

So, I was browsing the popular section of boots at ModCloth, when I stumbled upon these:

which look very much like these,

(https://www.happyatheistforum.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.doversaddlery.com%2Fimages%2Fxl%2F0038838.jpg&hash=66b610fe36b4eeb3e6808f886e7149058b459e4e)

which are horseback riding boots. Does this mean I am finally fashionable?  :D

Why is modcloth so great? Visually it looks like a mix between Topshop and Dorothy Perkins, or is it the format the store takes that makes it so interesting to you gals.

Ignoring Crow's impertinance (I'm feeling magnanimous) they have super cute clothes AND they release new stuff throughout the day, which makes you want to keep checking back, hour after hour after hour.  There was a study one time.  Rats and levers.  Pellets.  You get the gist.

Ignoring Crow's impertinance (I'm feeling magnanimous) they have super cute clothes AND they release new stuff throughout the day, which makes you want to keep checking back, hour after hour after hour.  There was a study one time.  Rats and levers.  Pellets.  You get the gist.

So its the interesting sales format mixed with the style of clothes you like. Do you prefer this format versus the pre Spring/Summer, Spring, Summer, pre Autumn/Winter, Autumn, Winter roll-outs overall?

I haven't checked if this is even relevant to mod cloth but does ethics of manufacturing play a role in the purchasing of clothes? Also, if the origin of fabrics and manufacturing methods were displayed would you be more willing to drop $100 for a garment made in the USA over $45 for a garment made in China of practically the same quality.

Honestly, I usually don't have the time (or energy) to research the ethics behind my clothing's manufacturing methods.  But no, I would not pay way more for an item made in the US vs one made elsewhere, of equal quality.

So, I was browsing the popular section of boots at ModCloth, when I stumbled upon these:

{boots pic}

which look very much like these,

{boots pic}

which are horseback riding boots. Does this mean I am finally fashionable?  :D

I'm sure you're very fashionable, whether it's past present or a yet to be fashion I'm not sure.

I just heard that lately there has been increased sales of riding crops for non horse related recreational activities.  It's good to hear traditional industries are finding new markets in difficult times.

Riding crops hurt like a bitch. Especially the leather ones. I have accidentally smacked myself multiple times.

Should that read "spanking new markets"?

ROFL!  :D As much as I'd like to support those new markets in difficult times, I think I'll decline this particular item in its new context...  ;)

People really abuse the word "vintage."

"Omg, so vintage." NO NO. Just because you're a giant hipster, it doesn't mean that EVERYTHING is vintage! "Vintage" is a meaningless term that refers to no specific era that just means "old." Replace the word "vintage" with "old" and see what a tool you sound like, "Omg that coat is so old", "Omg that skirt is so old" SEE! It's DUMB! You don't get extra sophistication-points for labeling every-freaking-thing as vintage!

End rant.

I've been spending way too much procrastination time on Pinterest.

It irks me as well. Vintage shop = charity shop minus the proceeds going to charity.

I need this necklace. I found it on etsy.

Oh wow, a wee bookshelf! SO cool! :) Etsy is awesome, a friend got me into snooping around it because she sells crafts there.

Awww, that's cute!  There is some really neat stuff on Etsy, and some really bizarre stuff too.  Have you ever seen the website Regretsy (http://www.regretsy.com/)?  Very funny.
