Title: Vacation Plans
Post by: Ecurb Noselrub on June 17, 2012, 03:07:39 AM
For those who take summer vacations/holidays.

This year, my wife and I are taking a road trip.  We live in Texas, and this is our itinerary:

June 30            Denver, CO
July 1-3           Jackson Hole, WY (including Yellowstone National Park and the Tetons)
July 4-5           Boise, ID
July 6-7           Salt Lake City, UT
July 8              Monument Valley, UT
July 9              Farmington, NM (including Four Corners and Shiprock)
July 10-12        Santa Fe, NM (including Taos)
July 13             Oklahoma City, OK
July 14             Home

Last year we did the Southeastern USA ("Dixie"), and the year before the Southwestern USA (Arizona, Nevada, Southern California).

Anybody planning a vacation/holiday?

Not until after I retire (this year, I hope) when I'll finally have time for it.  Then I'd like to either visit my brother and niece in Oregon, or look for an apartment in New Mexico.  Depending on whether my new budget allows me to be both sentimental and practical, or just practical.

I love both Oregon and NM.  I spent a week in Oregon for each of three straight years (2000-2002), mainly in Bend, but got to see the whole state, including Portland and the Columbia River Gorge (phenomenal!).  My favorite place, though, was Crater Lake - there is no "blue" in the world like the blue in Crater Lake looking straight down into its icy depths.  I could dissolve in it.

My knowledge of NM comes mainly from spending time in Ruidoso in my youth - my parents had friends who had a cabin there. Wonderful memories.  I also backpacked with my brother in the Pecos Wilderness, kayaked the Rio Grande through White Rock Canyon, climbed the dunes of White Sands, and spent some time in Santa Fe last year.  Wonderful state.

Sounds like a neat trip! (take pictures)
My husband and I are planning a trip for January with my parents - we're not sure exactly where it's going to be yet, but we were thinking the Florida Keys. Somewhere sunny to escape the wintery-blahs where we can let the little guy run around on a beach.

Other than that, I'd like to take a nice trip for our five year wedding anniversary, which will be next summer. I don't know where, yet, though. Probably somewhere in Europe.

The Keys are wonderful. Key West ("Margaritaville") is a lot of fun.  Just driving the entire island-hopping highway to Key West is an adventure in itself.

You can't go wrong in Europe. Suggestion: London, then take the Chunnel to Paris. Or, if you like sunnier weather (which you apparently do), try Venice - the Lido beach is nice, and the city is incomparable. Take a gondola tour and you will fall in love again.
