Title: Who's in Hell? - A look at who failed to make it into Heaven
Post by: MadBomr101 on May 31, 2012, 05:27:03 AM
Why are so many interesting, intelligent, talented and just plain cool people in Hell?  Could it be that the combination of these gifts grants the insight to see religion for the bullshit that it is?  Let's take a less than comprehensive headcount of who's currently burning in Hell based on the biblical requirements for achieving salvation.  None of these folks met that criteria.

This is mostly off the top of my head so please feel free to add to this list and keep it going.

- George Carlin
- Chris Hitchens
- Mark Twain

- George Washington
- Thomas Jefferson
- Benjamin Franklin
- Teddy Roosevelt .......... (Look at all these Presidents, Founding Fathers, and Framers of the Constitution.  None of them would be elected for anything today)
- James Madison
- John Adams
- Ulysses S. Grant
- Abraham Lincoln

- Susan B. Anthony
- Charles Darwin.......... (Of course)
- Albert Einstein.......... (He was smart enough to work out the complexities of the Universe from a patent office, I'm sure he could figure out the God myth)
- John Lennon
- Bruce Lee ............... (Like he couldn't kick Satan's ass if he wanted to)
- Frank Zappa
- Charlie Chaplin
- Stanley Kubrick
- Thomas Edison
- Kurt Vonnegut
- Helen Keller ............ (Helen Keller!!)
- Douglas Adams
- Rodney Dangerfield
- Ernest Hemingway
- Gene Roddenberry
- Andy Rooney
- Isaac Asimov
- HP Lovecraft
- Pat Tillman
- Edgar Allen Poe
- Carl Sagan
- Friedrich Nietzsche
- Frank Lloyd Wright
- Sigmund Freud
- Confucius
- HG Wells
- Alfred Hitchcock
- *Oskar Schindler .......... (Yes, that one.  *Born and raised Catholic but didn't practice the faith.  His wife was quoted as having stated "He was not a believer.")
- Gene Kelly
- William M. Gaines .......... (Founded MAD magazine.  He should be a saint)
- Charles M. Schulz
- George C. Scott
- George Orwell
- Katherine Hepburn
- Howard Hughes .......... (Crazy as he was even he thought god was bullshit)
- Andrew Carnegie
- Leonardo DaVinci

And finally...

Wait for it...

- L. Ron Hubbard .......... (Yes, the creator of Scientology was an avowed atheist.  He created a religion to make money.  Gotta love that.)

Heroes, one and all.

If we are to believe the statistic which says that half of the people that have ever lived are alive today, Satan's gonna need a bigger hotel!

I don't think we need to name individual politicians - shove 'em all in by default.  If it should turn out that one or two made it to heaven, we can name them separately.

What criteria are we looking for here to qualify them for hell?  Just that they were atheists or non Christians?

Atheist, non-theist, agnostic, these differences are inconsequential.  The primary criteria to get into Heaven is the unwavering belief in god and acceptance of Jesus as one's savior for his sacrifice on the cross.  None of these people met that criteria irrespective of whatever classification they fall into individually.

Couldn't agree more.  We can all hang out at John Lennon's place and smoke pot with George, and Chris, and Honest Abe.   ;)

Each religion.has their own versions of heaven/hell.

I'm sure Muslims  think all non muslims will burn in their hell.

I'm basing this on the Xian version of what's required to get into heaven.  I assumed that was understood since it tends to be the predominant religion typically discussed.  My apologies if I was unclear.

No apologies needed ^^

I figured you meant the Christian  version  of hell.

Worry not. Those people on the list that are dead are Mormon now anyway.

I wouldn't be surprised to see any of these listed in heaven.  I hold no belief that hell exists now.  On the contrary.  Hell will not come to exist until the fairytale end when all are judged.

Anyway didn't Darwin have a deathbed conversion?  ;)

No, you see, the cooler ones on that list are not in hell - they are all in The Gray Realm, building doomsday devices and waiting for their chance... SOON.  :D

It might be worth going to hell after all. The chance to sit at Darwin's feet and talk natural history and exploration, physics with Einstein, paleontology with Stephen Jay Gould, astronomy with Sagan, Politics and governance with John Adams, philosophy with Nietzsche and Confucius, and what can't you talk about with Jefferson and Franklin. Then when you need a break from this the chance to listen to Twain, Carlin, and Douglas Adams. Well, if you will pardon the expression, you might think you had died and gone to heaven. However, I have no intention of arriving in hell until Satin has kicked L. Ron Hubbard out and into the other place. The thought of hell run by Scientologists, even Mormon Scientologists, gives me the the creeps.

I would love to have a chat with L Ron Hubbard! He successfully pulled off a prank at the global level. I'm just hoping he has a letter or something, confessing scientology is crap, with instructions to be opened at a certain date. I bet people would still follow Scientology.

I don't know about a letter, but I'm pretty sure old L. Ron was known to have said that the best way to make money was to start a religion.  Google seems to agree with this, although it's possible it's a quote that was incorrectly attributed to him.
