Man, they do grow their Xians big and dumb in Texas.
Here's Rick Perry with his most recent "Xianity is the only thing that will save this country." rant against Obama. Rahther than link to it, I'll just post it here for your reading entertainment.
-------------------------------
Rick Perry says that if he's elected president, he'll end what he calls President Barack Obama's "war on religion."
Perry makes the comments in a new TV commercial that's sure to create controversy.
"I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm a Christian, but you don't need to be in the pew every Sunday to know there's something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can't openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school," says the Texas governor and Republican White House candidate. "As President, I'll end Obama's war on religion. And I'll fight against liberal attacks on our religious heritage. Faith made America strong. It can make her strong again."
The Perry campaign tells CNN the 30-second spot starts running in "heavy rotation" statewide in Iowa Wednesday. The state's Jan. 3 caucuses kick off the presidential primary and caucus calendar. The campaign says the ad will also run on cable television on the Fox News Channel.
The 30-second spot is slotted to run statewide starting Wednesday in Iowa. The state's Jan. 3 caucuses kick off the presidential primary and caucus calendar.
In an email release touting the new commercial, the Perry campaign lists headlines from mainstream, conservative, and religious reporting sites to illustrate what it calls the "Obama Administration's war on religion." Those examples include the president's move to stop defending the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act and his exclusion of the word "God" from his Thanksgiving speech.
In an interview Wednesday with CNN's Wolf Blitzer, Perry said he stood by the ad.
"The administration is clearly sending messages to people of faith, and organizations of faith, that we're not going to support you with federal dollars," Perry said. "I'm very comfortable with that ad, for one thing. My faith is a part of me, and the values I learned in my Christian upbringing will affect my governing."
CNN has reached out to Obama's re-election team for reaction to the new Perry ad.
Perry is a Methodist and has not shied away from touting his faith during his presidential bid . In an earlier campaign commercial, Perry described himself as a "man of faith."
Social conservative voters are influential in race for the GOP presidential nomination, especially in Iowa and South Carolina, the first southern state to vote.

Only if you pay shipping and handling.
Deal!
I've heard about all those hot Swedish babes. Even better than that, no Texas governors running for President there.
Y'know, if he does get elected this country is finished. If the previous Texas governor turned president didn't teach everyone a lesson, NOTHING will.

Perry's campaign looks dead in the water. He has nothing to lose, and this looks like a desperation tactic to me. It's hardly surprising though; he's been vying with Bachman for the dominionist/fundamentalist section of the Republican party since he joined the race. To me it seems that Romney is the inevitable Republican candidate, no matter how much the Republicans seem to want to avoid nominating him.

How desperate must the Republicans be if a Mormon whose religion even they don't get is the most reaonable nominee they can find?

As of now, the youtube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PAJNntoRgA) of Perry's ad has nearly 22,700 "dislike" votes versus a little over 600 "like" votes. It may play all right in middle America and the south, but I think overall it's likely to hurt his campaign more than it helps.
The steeply slanted hillside behind him in the video reminds me of some of the villain shots in the 60s Batman series.

I don't think you have any worries about Perry being the GOP nominee or the President. I just hope he doesn't try for or win another term as Texas governor. I never realized how dumb he sounds until this campaign, as all my knowledge of him came through the printed word. He really just doesn't have much upstairs, and it appears that people notice that. Looks like it's between Romney and Gingrich for the GOP nomination, and then a slugfest with Obama in November. Right now, it's impossible to say who will come out on top, except that it won't be Perry.
As of 10:00a this morning it's 3440 Likes and 154,315 Dislikes. `This is an encouraging sign that maybe there's more people who aren't as dumb than I thought there were.
Gov. Rick is done. It's Newt we need to worry about now. The guy sounds like a fascist sometimes. For example, he doesn't want to pay janitors in public schools. They can unionize and demand more money. Instead, he'd have the kids clean up, for free of course. Then they also learn "valuable" life skills.
Ron Paul is the only good choice this year. It's nice that he appears to be running second or third, but I still don't think he will beat Gingrich unfortunately.
I guess it's cliche to ask at this point, but I want to go to Sweden too. Nice stable economy, low socioeconomic differences, I've heard Swedish is easy to learn for English speakers, no religious people, and good education programs. I've seriously been thinking about moving out of the country at some point in my life.

As I mentioned earlier, I agree with the first sentence. I don't think that the Republicans are foolish enough to actually nominate Gingrich, but if they do, then Obama should have very little trouble being re-elected.

That one, I cannot agree with. Paul's anti-imperialism is about the only position he's taken that I agree with. Looking through the record of legislation that he's sponsored (http://dneiwert.blogspot.com/2007/11/ron-pauls-record-in-congress.html), I find nothing commendable, and much that is simply contemptible. His "libertarianism" only extends to areas that are compatible with his strongly Christian beliefs, and his position on church-state separation (http://www.irregulartimes.com/ronpaulseparation.html) is completely unacceptable. Ron Paul isn't a good choice, and he has no chance of getting the Republican nomination.

The biggest reason I like Ron Paul is because he wants our troops home and he will work to end the Federal Reserve. I know he isn't perfect, but I think he would do better with the economy than any of the other candidates.

The man's an embarrassment to himself. I'm glad that these are likely only final lashings out of a failed candidate.
I heard it on played on a radio news show as part of their coverage of him. I almost had to pull off the road because I was about to choke.
It's fascinating to watch him scare away any independents that still might have been thinking about supporting him. Even the moderate right will totally abandon him after this. All he'll have left are the Bachmann supporter types, that only constitute a small part of the Republican base. This is him making a foolish political error in a moment of desperation, effectively ending his run for president, and likely dooming any future run for the office. He'll have to go back to Texas with his proverbial tail between his legs, clutching a bottle of syrup tightly.
It serves him right for being so hateful.
Has anybody noticed that he wore the same jacket as one of the cowboys on Brokeback Mountain?

Rick Perry defends anti-gay ad 'Strong', says people should not have 'freedom from religion'

I've heard that before (Elizabeth Dole uses the line alot) but for the life of me I can't figure out how true freedom of religion is possible without the inclusion of freedom from religion. Otherwise all you really have is freedom of specific, coerced religions which is both a contradiction in terms and a slippery slope I don't think anyone wants to create.
In another reality, long ago, I was a registered Republican and would have voted for Elizabeth Dole (that was back in 2000). However, she was the only Republican I was actually willing to vote for. In 2000, I was among the majority who voted for Al Gore.
In 2007, which was way too late, I became an independent, which in my home state, is "unaffiliated". Unfortunately, that means that I can never vote for anything in a primary election except the board of education. I am considering switching to Democrat just so I can vote in primaries.
I could not even watch that ad. Just reading the transcript made me see red. I have too many feelings. D:
I really do not understand this persecution mentality that so many US Christians have-- that they are being oppressed because they aren't allowed to enforce their doctrine everywhere, on everyone. I see it so much. Every time I hear this from someone I want to slap them around the head and tell them to think about what it's like to be the only one at the table who doesn't join the prayer, the only kid in the class who doesn't believe in God, the teacher that gets threats from parents for teaching evolutionary theory, the same-sex couple that can't buy prom tickets together, the homeless teenager that got kicked out of their parents' house for being atheist or gay or something, the transgender man who gets beaten half to death in the public restroom, the political candidate that barely has a chance because they aren't Christian. They don't know what it's like to be the Muslim guy that gets automatically treated like a terrorist. They don't know what it's like to be subjected to anti-Jewish slurs. They don't know what it's like to be neo-pagan and not be allowed to wear a pentagram or Thor's hammer or whatever to work, while your boss is just fine with Christians wearing the cross. They don't know what it's like to be "found out" by a Christian friend and turned into their pet project, as if you're some sort of broken toy that needs fixing with Jesus glue. American Christians don't know what the fuck oppression is, but part of their indoctrination is being told that they will be oppressed. I've been on that side of the fence. I used to believe it.
All of this is ingrained in our culture because of them, but if we DARE criticize them or be gay or atheist or feminist or some non-Christian religion in front of them (or hidden in a closet somewhere) suddenly it's the fucking Holocaust. You can put up a billboard about how everyone who's not Christian is going to burn forever in Hell, but a billboard that says, "Hey, maybe not," is persecution of the highest order.
And in reality, they have no idea what it's like to be ostracized, vilified, and mocked on a regular basis. It's not like it doesn't happen-- I've seen unwarranted nastiness directed at Christians-- but they have the majority of privilege in this country. It's like a millionaire complaining about the cost of groceries going up. They've won the privilege lottery and they're bitching that the prize wasn't big enough. It's not enough for them to be able to openly practice their religion. Everyone that isn't an active participant in their faith is a baby-eating antagonist.
Spoiled goddamn brats. 'Scuse me for the rant. That's been gnawing on me as of late.

I love that vid. It's so good that even my mother liked it. (And it's not something that she would normally condone.) I think it's safe to say that Rick Perry, and all who support him, are the main reason the Christians get a bad rep. Unfortunately, he's so small minded that he can't seem to comprehend that there are more than just Christians in the world, as there always has been. Truly a shame since if he had half a brain to go with that mouth of his, he might have actually fared pretty decently this election. The only republican that I would have voted for dropped out. They were quite similar in their standards, but Santorum at least understood the playing fields a lot better than Perry. Santorum knew that the entire country doesn't see things that same way he does, so he worked at bit to try and understand the voters' perspective, instead of expecting them to mirror him.
