Sweet vid! There was an old evolution-type program idea called "bugs" where it could be demonstrated, with no preset condition, how mutations and offspring will drive a bunch of "bugs" to move around the screen in the most efficient way to eat background bacteria. The bacteria would take a while to re-grow once a bug ate it, so the best bug movement was sort of a slight diagonal traversing the screen. This was also a cool simulation, and simple proof of how powerful the concepts of mutation and natural selection are when taken together.

I transcribed that entire thing (minus graphics) to put in my son's scrapbook along with the Christians watchmaker story. It is just too good to leave digital.

I've actually written code like this called FLiBs (Finite Living Blobs).
Genetic Natural Selection code can come up with some amazing results.
Many structures arise from very simple environmental restrictions and goals for the population.
