Title: Gloucester's chat thread
Post by: Dave on June 24, 2016, 08:33:21 PM
Hello ftom Gloucester, Uk.

My name is actually Dave but there are far too many of us it seems. I'll appologise for strange spellings now, I use a tablet and iften hut tge wrinf ket on tge onscreeb ket boaed.

I am fast approaching 72 and worked as a very, very Jack-of-all-trades senior R&D tech in an instrumentation company's labs. Interests sci-fi and fantasy, science, technology and high tech toys, archaeology, almost any kind of research, writing . . . . . . . . . . .

Oh, I am also a "Computer Buddy" (yeck!) for the local University of the Third Age.

I am a member of http://www.thinkhumanism.com/phpBB3/ (http://www.thinkhumanism.com/phpBB3/), a friendly bunch.

I sort of came to humanism by osmosis; I had arguments with my Sunday School teachers until I stopped going at about age 10. At 12 I found a notice about a local humanist group and realised I was not alone, but I was too young for them to admit me to their number - so I sort of drifted for decades; life, love, work, finance and all the usual things getting in the way.

It was not until I got made refundant at age 59.5 (best promotion I ever had!) That I felt relaxed enough to look around. Took an early pension from work and took a course to prep for a uni course, which I got. Unfortunately a dicky ticker cut my uni career short, but it was a worthwhile experience, the grey stuff was still just as active and I could hold my own in debate.

So, still looking aroundvto see what is going and thought I'd have a dabble here.

Greetings and welcome, Gloucester.  I'm also called David and I was active in the TH forum years ago - it is indeed a nice place, I'll have to start posting there again.  You must be Dave B.

Yup, Oldgit, that's me! Remember your handle I think, did you use it on TH?

Bit quiet there at the moment, there were a couple of fallings out.

Welcome aboard!  I retired from Federal Civil Service when I was 58 and have been enjoying it so much I haven't even tried to find another job.  My original plan was to relax for 6 mos, then go back to work.  That was 4 years ago and I'm still sleeping in every day.

Just a remainder now I suppose...

This is all due to a squabble amongst the so-called adults that form the Tory party, chances are it will cist us billions and we will possibly have reduced human and civil rights because of it.

Not that the other parties are worth the energy to make a cross fir.

Sorry, got a sequoia balanced on my shoulder regarding politicians.

Having got the grump over - thanks for the greets!

Thanks, no one.

In a class in the RAF there were 22 of us, all about the sane age, . . . . 10 of us called Dave.

Like I said, too many of us.

Thought once I was going to have to find a Sharon for a girl friend - kept finding "Dave and Sharon" everywhere, especially along the tops of car windscreens when that was in fashion.

Yeah, probably quite a few ftom here went over.

I'm not a Gloucesterian though, I hail ftom SE London. Was stationed near here for my last posting in the RAF (1970) then came back when my job moved this way.

Not sure about VU3A, don't know its origin but possibly their security is weak and the site has been infected by a trojan or something.

Here is the link for the UK U3A.

I do know that VU3A is the project of one man who built the site with some help. I know somebody who's corresponded with him, and will try to contact him to let him know that it's possible his site was hacked. Thanks for pointing that out.

There are a few local things somewhat similar to U3A in the US (for instance, Florida (http://www.u3a.org.uk/component/weblinks/category/111-worldwide-lifelong-learning-links/144-usa/157-florida.html?Itemid=435)) but no national organization like U3A, unfortunately. You'd have to search locally using the term "Life Long Learning." This is much more likely to produce something like U3A, while "Adult Learning" is usually focussed on teaching GED classes.

Welcome to the party (Dave) Gloucester.  A bunch us have similar interests. There are some senior citizens here, including me, the most senior of the lot. (Unless Madam Butterfly Magdalena is lying about her age  ;D)  We are not a flagrantly militant Atheist group like some of the other forums and we seldom get ourselves involved in pissing contests. In the rare cases of that sort our moderators fix the problem without delay.

We are a mixed group with members from such places as Russia, France, Netherlands, Norway, Australia, USA, UK Cyprus, and other locations that provide an interesting international flair. We even have a couple of good Christians who are well respected members.

Hello Gloucester Dave, great to have a new HAFfer. You're fortunate that you kicked against religion at such a young age. It took me about 50 years longer and this place helped me to find sanity when I finally saw the light.

Thanks for the greetings Essie and Icarus.

Luckily my parents were not religious, Sunday School was just a  convenient place to park us kids on a Sunday afternoon. Best part of it was the "Criterion" genuine Italian ice cream parlour next to the church. The family that ran it loved kids and our few pennies went a long way there.

So, no real parental pressure.

My iPad seems to playing up; my post disappeared into the ether so sorry if this is already out there. All I was saying is that my nominally Christian parents parked me there for the same reasons. What I heard there though was so terrifying and stressful that all reason flew out of the window and after 6 years of it from the age of 6, they well and truly had me with their 'better to frighten them into the kingdom than fail to get them in at all' approach. It wasn't all bad though, and although I don't bring up my views with my Christian children, I'm much happier than before.

EDIT: I have tried to show this picture even trough my Photobucket (in preview, in case that has anything to do with anything). Strange things are happening. I think I broke the forum.

EDIT: Yes, I'm aware that a certain "[img width=236 height=236" has appeared in the mix. It showed in the quote. The strange thing is that I deleted it from both image sources, yet it reappeared. ISYN, there are ghosts in the machine.

As far as I can tell, all that happened is that the quote tag format got altered a bit. I pasted in a fresh quote tag for Magdalena's post in my quote above and it seems fine.

Yup, an eclectic bunch that just goes to show that some ties are not always easily definable!

But, perhaps independence of thought is a common factor?

Anyway, feels like a club where I fit, never did want to be mainstream.

Icarus? Based on your profile I might be the second oldest?

Slight diversion ... do you get those accusations that you should grow up or some such? I do, possibly because my style leads many to think I'm angry, but yeah I do ... I mean not so much now because this is the first forum I've [re]joined for ten years or more.

No, that was closed down years ago. A large majority of the members who participated no longer post here. The posts are archived, though. If you're looking for some information that might be available there, send me a PM. Myself, I haven't seen the up side of such an arrangement.

As a matter of interest the last post in the Secret Chat Area was in Jan 2011. It wasn't closed, it died a death. I personally would not want to resurrect it as in my experience on other forums such places are divisive and cliquey.

Hey, Gloucester! I just found this place, and joined up.

As for the forum, zero tolerance for trolls sounds pretty refreshing. Some people like to chew on them, but the less the merrier, as far as I am concerned.

I have a very low (read non-existent) tolerance for trolls. I tend to ban them and then get spanked by Recusant for not following the rules...

Easier to ask forgiveness than permission.

I don't know...Maybe Gods, Administrators have the right to spank each other in the privacy of their realm if they want to. We shouldn't be watching.
...I would love to see how the Gods, Administrators spank, solve their differences...but, I would probably end up liking one God, Administrator more than the other. -- :(. I would probably also be disappointed if one didn't spank, reprimand the other one hard enough.

I can be so sadistic sometimes.  :felix:

Im'a just pull up my faux fur tie-dyed bean bag, (lots of bright colors) and open a few bottles of wine (enough for everyone, I'm generous like that). I'll bring some cookies too, because cookies are my favorite!
Let's chill!  :far out: :heyhey: :smokin cool: :smug:

It's difficult to tell which it is. The long symmetrical tentacles indicate octopus but the eye placement and body shape indicate squid so I'm not sure.

But it is yummy!  :yum:
It's octopus and shrimp. Boil that puppy, (the octopus), 15 minutes per pound. Boil the shrimp separately about 3 or 4 minutes. Chop the octopus, peel and clean the shrimp. Mix with chopped: tomato, onion, cilantro, cucumber, lemon, salt. You don't even need jalapeños this time!

You eat it with tortilla chips, it's like an appetizer--with cervezas, of course.

I thought it would take a long time to cook as well, but after 30 to 35 minutes, it was very tender. It has a "unique" flavor, doesn't it?  ;D

Well, I have always said I would try eating anything that this not actually walking across the plate - but think I would prefer that dish prepped for me!

The "walking" bit came when I was once offered small, live snails to eat. They had been fed for three days on fresh lettuce but, somehow . . .

I have eaten hedgehog (bit like chicken), roast sheep's eyes (salty), pig's testicles (chewy) and chocolate coated ants (sharp tasting crunchy centre). Waiting for a chance to sample fried locust and am told woodlice taste like shrimp (to whom they are distantly related).

This conversation brings to mind a meal I was offered while in Kenya, many years ago. It was a restaurant called the Carnivore, and it's specialty was meat. We were at a long table, and servers were bringing us zebra, crocodile, ostrich, I can't remember what else. What sticks out in my mind about that meal is pineapple. Because that's all I ate. And one tiny taste of zebra. I just couldn't do it. I'm not a vegetarian, but I'm not very adventuresome when it comes to meat. Though I am very adventurous as far as plant- based foods go.  I know I kind of wasted a once in a lifetime opportunity, but I was 17...

I know! It's just one of those cultural things that most people can't get over, including me, which is weird considering they're really nutritious. I think I would be brave enough to eat a bug only if it was dry and didn't look like a bug. If there was such a thing as 'bug flour' avaliable I might give it a try. Not bug paste, though. That just reminds me of squashed bug innards. :bleh:

I'm sure my Apache or Aztec ancestors ate some bugs here and there. I'm at a big disconnect with them because of Europeans and stuff so I don't really get the appeal of bugs that aren't from the ocean. I mean I eat menudo which has stomach lining and when people see it or I tell them what's in it they flee.   :run!:

Having bought a large bag of mealworms for a friend, to give her garden birds an extra treat at nesting time, I did view these dried bugs with some interest. What would they be like lightly fried in butter with a little pepper, say? Or some mild curry paste?

I think I'm familiar with that demon.

We had a sermon on demons once, and it wa s great because you could blame them for everything that was wrong with you, if you ate too much, it was a demon of greed, if you lost your temper all the time, it was an angry demon.

Sounds like a great way to remove personal responsibility from oneself. I've met many people who do this throughout my life, fueling my disgust for religious thinking.

Hi, guys 'n' gals!

I may not be around for a bit, The Virgin ISP system has crashed somewhat severely, I have no Wifi and a LAN link to the router is incredibly slow.

I can only get through on my old laptop, no tablets working, because of this.

Just though I would let you know in case it goes on for a long time!

I am not a happy bunny  and will be expecting compensation over this.>:(

Still not fixed but . . . engineer coming out Wednesday morning, think the router went faulty at the same time as Virgin had infrastructure probs. Whatever, my router works on a LAN cable but nothing works on it on Wifi, though all the settings have been reset and all online diagnostics show no fault. I reckon the wire has fallen of the internal aerial!

Very difficult to get help line types to recognize that others also know about computer systems! I have had a few cases, on help lines and other places, where youngsters think it amusing that a 70+ yo has oodles of tech and knows how to use it. I often have to tell them that I was programming computers before they were born (if it was only BASIC in 1980! I was studying FORTRAN for a while as well)

Anyway, on the subject of high tech...

I think that I have mentioned that, in 2008, I had a cardiac pacemaker-cum-defibrillator implanted, and that it saved my life a couple or three times. The, in 2012, the battery in it went flat in four years instead of the expected 7. So I had to have a new device implanted.

Had it checked last week, all functions OK, estimated battery life 3.5 years.

Then I got a call from the hospital, the manufacturer has found a battery problem in that they can go flat half way through their expected life. Touch of deja vu here . . .

Got to go in Friday for some more checks. If one dodgy battery in my model is found every person who has one will have to have it replaced! It is only a minor op under sedative (or not last time, my favourite cardiologist did the job and I spent al having him explain what he was actually doing. He would not let me watch the video monitor that was recording the job though!

The day after the test I had reason to check my blood pressure at home. That was OK but my pulse rate was only 64, not in the 70 - 75 range I am used to. Worked out that there was no real problem, it was only my resting rate, the implant was boosting up to 100 bpm on activity. A pulse resting rate of 60 would be good for an ailing ticker, save thousands of beats a day. And I do quite a bit of resting on the sofa with a book!

Phoned the hospital the next day and eventually got through to a technician. He said that the pacing rate had been changed deliberately the records said that I had been informed why. Oh no I had not, it was never mentioned during the tests. Other than in emergencies they need my informed permission for such things. So, I have started a formal complaint, even small protocol ''mistakes'' need to be investigated and eliminated - apart from the actual lie about my being informed.

Time for some severe wrist slapping I think.

On another forum they have tongue-in-cheek "What's your latest first world problem?'' thread for things like this. Though it could just be "The dishwasher broke." In a third world country I would probably have been dead 18 years ago.

On the battery thing, bloody glad my implant does not have a Samsung battery in it. Oh, bugger, I have two Samsung tablets and two Samsung phones

In a third world country I would probably have been dead 18 years ago.

While I was reading your post I thought of how people from the 80s reacted when they first heard of a pacemaker. Since I know people from that time, I don't feel too surprised by what I suspect their reactions would be. But then when I go to people from 1800s when their life was the farm and thinking about how they would react to an electronic device that shocks your heart and keeps it running, I blow my own mind into thinking how lucky we have it and how cool it is to have technology such as this. One day I hope they can make an app on your phone to monitor your pacemaker and give you alerts to when it needs care.

On another, yet similar note, some believe that with the emergence of brain mapping, that we will have similar devices for our brains. What I've heard is that we will have smart machines into our frontal lobes to be like a smart phone but just in your head. Augmented reality would also be apart of this.

But I'm thinking, since I read your post, that we will have more medical uses for these things, instead of improving what we already have. We don't see a pacemaker for athletes, do we? So based on previous technologies that put foreign objects into your body, they don't improve the human race to a higher level, rather they protect the weak. Being schizoaffective, I wouldn't mind getting my brained mapped. I would like to be able to help people with my illness by donating a copy of my mind to science. Also, I heard you can get yourself on a disc and I would like to turn myself into my own personal assistant.

Apathy, there are more advancements being made with variations of the device that I have. Parkinsons disease, epilepsy and depression I know can be treated using electrical pulse stimulation of nerves from a modified pacemaker, lots cheaper and smaller than the one I have!

Not sure how many other neurological diseases will be amenable to this kind of preventative therapy - let's hope lots. But, as we gather more info via fMRI scans etc , learn more about the grey stuff, we will see modern tech even more doing incredible stuff.

Another idea I have seen mooted is that future implants may incorporate GPS and a mobile, so they can report problems and location.

I have the letter about my Friday appointment - pretty good one from the manufacturer explaining the problem and the risks. Seems the batteries grow lithium whiskers that short the electrodes. There was a similar problem with the old NiCAD batteries years ago, thought lithium jobs did not suffer this. Oh, forgot, this is not a rechargeable so different principles.

Anyway, looks like the Friday thing is to issue a sort of Bluetoothy 24/7 monitor with a built in mobile, talks to the implant on a short range link and phones the monitoring centre if there are any problems. Bit less sophisticated than built in and won't work away rom home. Would hae thought they would have apps for smarphones to do the job by now! No doubt it will come.

There are already incredible medical uses being found for smartphones. Also the almost immediate video/image and on the spot text/verbal messaging  from disaster areas primes the relief organisations with what to expect and what is needed.

I love technology and the people that develop it, they are not all money grabbers. I grew up with computers, from whole rooms full of glowing valves to the thing in my pocket and this tablet.  Fighting the impulse to get involved with Rasperry Pi  and similar tech - already got too much stuff and not enough room!

"Rasberry Pi"; I just searched that on the web. Interesting stuff. Maybe I might get one when the money comes. I've learned how to program in CSS and HTML on codecademy but I never found any use for it or even enjoyed what I was doing. But seeing as the most of my time is spent on the computer, I could probably use it.

The other micro computer system is Arduino, lots of accessories for that as well!

There is a video somewhere where a guy modified an electric wheelchair chassis with a lawnmower, micro comp and GPS to make a mower that once taught the layout of the lawn, knew where it was and mowed pefectly every time.

They are also used a lot by Remap (http://www.remap.org.uk), a voluntary organisation of retired engineers who make bespoke aids for disabled people.

Loads of Youtube stuff on them. Great to teach even 10 yos computing and coding. Great for test/prototype/experimental rigs etc etc etc. Best I managed, 1984, was controlling a prototype river water quality monitor system using a Sinclair Spectrum with its parallel data port (available on the extension port) operating a bunch  of relays.  Could do so much more now...

"Autonomous"?  Er, "automatic"?  Yes, that was just a prototype and could have run easily on the old washing nachine programmer system, a synchronous motor and a bunch if cams and microswitches. It had about ten functions that it repeated at set times of day.

No idea how sophisticated it is now, when I left work in 2004, a whole 12 years ago we were only just building WiFi, Bluetooth and mobile phone circuits into developmental prototypes of our instruments. All setting up of the instruments was done over wire from the old  Psion (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psion_Series_3) pocket computers (a real step forward in their day)and laptops. Now I am sure it is done via a smartphone app!

It is as you implied, the advancement, driven by the mobiles, tablet and gaming industries, are making many engineering firms learn lots of new skills. And I reckon we ain't seen nothing yet!

When I first saw this thread I thought it said "Glowchester's Kat Thread" and I was like, ugh...
And why should I not have a kat thread?

Name me 256 things wrong with kats!

:eyebrow:

i'll begin with these 13, and we can work our way up from here if needed.

[spoiler]1. The reason you even like kats in the first place is because of a parasite in your brain Your brain is home to millions of protozoa, but one in particular, called Toxoplasma gondii, manipulates your behavior to force you to like kats. This parasite, which lives in 30 to 50 percent of the world's human brains, can only reproduce in the digestive tracts of kats. And, like many living things, it wants to continue surviving, so it has to continue reproducing. But if it lives in human brains, how can it reproduce? Enter kats. Scientists studied the behavior of T. gondii  in the brain of a rodent, an animal normally petrified by kats, and uncovered extraordinary results. T. gondii manipulated a rodent's brain to remove the rodent's fear of kats, slow the rodent's reaction time, and made the rodent attracted to the smell of kat piss. Now, the newly-brave, manipulated rat thinks it can befriend its mortal enemy, and it can't. The rat still gets eaten. As Vice put it: "The fact that a parasite has learned to sneak into brains, hack some biochemical wiring, and effectively reverse a deep-seated, primordial fear that's been beaten into the inherited psyche of every living rodent is, in a word, bonkers." Yes. Yes it is. And T. gondii does the same to you. It deludes you into loving kats.

2. kats who cuddle with you don't actually love you You might think your kat is your only friend while you're alone on a Saturday night watching Netflix, but he actually likes you as much as every crush you've ever had does: not at all. Your kat rubbing up against you has nothing to do with his affection for you. kats have a great sense of smell, so your kat is secreting his scent onto you so no other kats will come near you. When he snuggles his body against yours, all he's saying is that he owns you. You are his property. His minion. Your relationship is emotionally abusive, and you didn't even know it.

3. The way kats do show their love is really creepy OK, sure, kats can love you (No they can't). But they let you know by giving you a blank stare, and then blinking at you. That's it. That's affection. The "kitty kiss" relays certain information about how the kat is feeling. If the kat blinks at you, it's a good thing, but if he doesn't, he's asserting his dominance and potentially feeling aggressive. If the kat stares at you for too long, he's telling you to go away. All of these subtle movements could be hard to catch if you're not watching closely enough — which you can't do because staring in a kat's eyes for too long could prompt an attack. Such mixed signals.

4. If you are alone with your kat and you die, it will fucking eat you immediately. After a Romanian woman died in 2008, her kat ate her entire corpse. People who live alone and own a kat, beware: If you die by yourself in your house, nobody will know right away, so your body will stay there for several days. Because you are no longer alive, nobody will be around to feed your kat. It will go hungry. According to a phenomenon called "postmortem predation," a kat will eat your dead body one or two days after you die. It doesn't matter how great of an owner you were. You are now food. Studies have shown that a dog struck with this phenomenon will at least wait a while before attacking your corpse, so it's possible that someone will have found you by the time the dog realizes he's starving. But your kat? He's an impatient, merciless savage. Don't feel so safe living alone with your kat now, huh?

5. Kats don't like sweet things, which means they don't like dessert, and everyone knows you can't trust a dessert-hater All mammals have the required number of taste receptors to detect sweetness. Kats, however, do not. They lack amino acid pairs that make up the DNA of a gene called Tas1r2 that codes for an ability to taste sweet things like cupcakes. Who doesn't like cupcakes? Monsters. Like kats. Instead, kats love the flavor of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), a compound that supplies energy in all living cells and acts as a signal for meat. Humans cannot detect or taste ATP, so our drive to devour living things is way less than a kat's drive. Which makes sense because kats are the most vicious of cold-blooded killers.

6. Kats kill a hell of a lot of innocent animals for literally no reason, kats are natural-born hunters. A 2013 study revealed that each year, domestic kats kill 20.7 billion smaller animals, including mice, chipmunks, voles and 3.7 billion birds. Kats are actually the number one killer of these animals. Kats spend one-third of their day just killing animals, and they don't even do it because they're hungry. They do it because they feel like it. They murder just to murder, like the genocidal barbarians that they are.

7. Kats are irritating show-offs. Kats know they're good at hunting. Many of you probably find it "cute" when they bring their prey to your house and leave it at your doorstep. But your kat didn't bring you that dead mouse as a present because he loves you. He brought it because he knows you wouldn't be able to hunt for it yourself. He's telling you you're inadequate at something you didn't even know you could be inadequate at. Like an asshole.

8. Kat poop could give you a fatal disease Remember that T. gondii parasite? Normally, it doesn't do anything to harm those humans whose brains it calls home (well, except make you love kats) because your immune system knows how to handle it. However, for those people whose immune systems can't handle it, exposure to the parasite can cause a disease called toxoplasmosis. It can either give you mild flu-like symptoms, mental disorders like schizophrenia and depression, or kill you. Feline feces are true safe havens for T. gondii, so you can contract toxoplasmosis by cleaning up your kat's sh*t. Have I convinced you how terrible they are yet?

9. Kats' purrs are manipulative. While your kat knows how "precious" his little purrs are, he also knows that they're manipulative. Scientists studied how humans responded to kat purrs mixed with a high-pitched cry. Normally, kats just purr, but when they need something important, they include a specific kind of cry with their purr. Kats know how sensitive we are to the needs of human babies who also cry, so they try to trick us into paying attention to them by wailing like children. We fall for it every time. In the study, human owners felt a higher sense of urgency in a situation when kat's purring included crying. Kats have taken what weakens us to our cores and used it to control us.

10. Kats are fucking stupid losers. Kats are loners. They normally thrive in solitary conditions, so their brains haven't needed to develop the tools to adapt to social environments. The brains of more social animals, like dogs, have had to grow over time to adequately learn how to socialize. So, social brains — jam-packed with awesome friend-making abilities — are bigger than kat brains. Looks like kats are losers and pea-brained, which means stupid.

11. You know how when you like someone, you're attracted to his scent? Well, kats hate your scent. Imagine that you have a boyfriend or girlfriend who you love. I know you don't, because you are a single girl or boy who loves kats, but just imagine. Imagine you sleep at their apartment, on their pillow, and imagine how cologne/perfume-y and delicious that pillow smells. Now, imagine waking up the next morning and going home still smelling like that pillow. You probably don't want to wash that scent off, right? Well, there's a reason why kats are always licking themselves, and it's not to clean up. It's to rid themselves of human scent. Kats don't like your scent. This means they don't like you.

12. Julius Caesar, Alexander the Great, Father Bruno, Audrey Hepburn, Marlon Brando, and Marilyn Monroe were all afraid of kats. All of these people are said to have suffered from ailurophobia, the fear of kats.

13. KATS ARE EVIL AND SUCK OUT YOUR SOUL AT NIGHT WHILE YOU SLEEP. THEY ALONG WITH NUNS POPULATE AND RUN HELL FOR SATAN.

I hate to say this because I respect the hell out of his work, butt Mr. Dinero is wrong here. Obviously it fits the character he is portraying in the movie, a kind of jerk who is also something of a controlling-ass, so it fits that his character would like kats and think they are better than dogs. When they aren't.
Smrt people know his comments about dogs are wrong, but it's a movie so we ignore it and move on.

I almost feel this deserves it's own thread, nay maybe even it's own section here on the forum, but let's leave it here. I'm way to humble to make a big deal about it. 8)

FYI - These are cats (Lions, tigers, panthers, cheetahs, etc...) The domestic, evil monsters created by satan and his minions (Nuns) are kats.

Yes, me too. I seem to have hit a brick wall. This is very frustrating.

Ah, a walk round Gloucester (with a bit of luck thrown in) and a sudden inspiration at tea time solved that for me!

I'll just chomp on my Jesus who, according to the Pope, is not gluten-free. I have no problem with that.

I think this is both funny, and so utterly ridiculously typical of religious people.  Basically the Catholics believe in the whole transubstantiation thing, whereas when the bread and wine are consecrated by a priest a change takes place and the whole substance of both the bread and wine are transformed (Original Transformers?) into the "actual flesh and blood of Jesus" even though both the bread and wine retain the appearance, odor and taste of both the bread and wine. This is part of the Church's Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist and partaking is considered the most important and highest form of prayer within the church, and a central Dogma to Catholicism itself.

However, now the church is saying this transformational scientific (Fucking Magical) process can't take place without trace amounts of gluten being present in the wafer? Is the absent of gluten Jesus's achilles heal? If I wear a gluten free wafer around my neck will it have the same affect on Jesus as garlic does to Dracula?

Fucking Catholics. ::)

I think the best thing about it all is that if Jesus is not gluten-free then that means that some people are allergic to Jesus. It certainly doesn't help with the perfect picture his followers paint of him.

QuoteFucking Catholics. ::)

I'm surrounded by them.  ::) Argh.

I went to a nondenominational church that started doing communions on monday. But instead of brean, we got little styrofoam discs. And the juice, erghem, I mean wine was non-alcoholic. So I guess I got TWICE the transformation as you catholics did.
