my wife takes the aged dog out for a walk at 0530,and normally refills the food dish on the porch.

today she neglected to fill the food dish, and the possum was forced to show itself on the kitchen porch at noon

Thanks for the recognition. On the other hand it reveals that am a blabbermouth that often talks too much.

For sure, I have enjoyed and appreciated my time here on the HAF forum. Over time we have had some exceptional people who contributed in scholarly ways. We continue to have several of them that I respect greatly.

I learn things here that are not part of mainstream conversation.

Since the iridescent butterfly took off, we've let a minor HAF tradition lapse. I'm cool with that, but will happily make use of it now.

Noticed today that the Wise One, Icarus, has attained the exalted "Cure for Boredom" user rank. That is, 8,000 posts--may there be many more! I salute you G, and thank you for the fine posts you've contributed to this site and continue to contribute. I enjoy and appreciate the ideas and experiences you share here.

Fraunhofer lines for ?

My curiosity sent me in search of an answer. My impression is that the image was created by the European Southern Observatory to accompany science talks for the general public. A image search got me to this version which tells us that the absorption lines are for hydrogen, sodium, and calcium.  I used tineye--the google image search came up empty for whatever reason.

Cool! Thanks! Those lines do look to be in about the correct places. As for intent, I hope nothing I said was taken as derogatory or something. That's never my intent. Or, if it was, it would be obvious.
