Title: Netflix
Post by: Tank on October 02, 2018, 10:52:27 AM
I now have 4 profiles on Netflix, comedy, Sc-fi, drama and documentary. I have now maxed out on everything so all Netflix ever appears to offer me is stuff I have already seen, or started to watch and don't want to finish! F***ing useless interface! They need a 'F**k off I'm not interested! option.  :f you: :f you: :f you:

If there's one thing I hate with a passion is software that thinks it's smarter than I am.  I sometimes wish the writers of the algorithms used by Netflix and Facebook and the like would all just go and eff off!

And they probably think they have done such a wonderful job!

Just watched a very good documentary called Apache Warrior. Highly recommended if you are in any way interested in real military experiences.

Has anyone else here watched "Messiah" on Netflix? I finished the first season about a couple weeks ago, and I really, really enjoyed it.
The cinematography is excellent, as is the acting and I loved how it takes place in different spots all over globe. I especially like Michelle Monaghan as the CIA officer. (The dude playing Isa is really good as well)

I put a trailer below for those who are interested. Here's the Premise I copied from Wikipedia:

The series focuses on the modern world's reaction to a man who first appears in the Middle East, whose followers claim him to be the eschatological return of 'Isa (Jesus). His sudden appearance and apparent miracles spark a growing international following, casting doubts around who he really is, a case investigated by a CIA officer.

I wanted it to last as only the first season has been released so I forced myself to only watch one episode at a time, but I wanted to binge watch this...of course there has been an outcry of displeasure over it from multiple religious groups, and I daresay I was probably drawn to it more because of my atheism, and maybe a little from my catholic upbringing.

Reviews have been mixed, but I found it fascinating!

The Netflix knows what's best for you.
The Netflix has taken care of everything.
You needn't wonder, how or why.
The Netflix has taken care of everything.
The Netflix knows what's best for you.

How interesting...

I had never in my life done this...this..." binge-watching." Two weeks ago, I did for the 1st time in my life, and guess what I binge-watched? You guessed it, "Messiah."

I was probably drawn to it more because of my atheism, and maybe a little from just being curious, but more like when you see a car accident or something.

A surprisingly good little Netflix series, Space Force.

It's a skit/satire on Trump's 'Space Force'. It's a lovely little gentle piece with the odd belly laugh and a bit of pathos too. Not what I expected at all. Highly recommended.

Hermes you'll need a box of tissues for episode 6.

So far I've watched the first 6 episodes. You are right, number 6 was touching. The series isn't bad, and even Steve Carell, who usually irritates me no end, is good. Can you explain to me why his wife is in prison?

For me the highlight is John Malkovich, who is brilliant as always. Oh, and of course Chan is delectable.

Agreed on all points. I would not have watched it because of Steve Carell unless I had seen him interviewed about it on the Graham Norton show. And I like Captain Ali :)

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

My former son-in-law had me on his account. He finally canceled it. I'm debating on whether I should start my own account again.

I have Hulu with Starz and Amazon Prime already. Hulu just disappointed me. There is a movie I want to watch but can't hear it. With the volume turned all the way up it's still barely audible.

I didn't watch Netflix much although I'd search for a movie on it from time to time but never found anything that grabbed me. It's the only reason why I haven't started a new account.

Oh, the first half of Lucifer's final season came out. That's a must watch for me!

Binged the first season of Away.  (Gotta have something to do during lockdown :D )

Enjoyed it apart from a few technical issues, but then I'm one of those who like to point out all the errors in military, historical and science based movies and series. LOL

If you're looking for the television version of a vanilla slice then I recommend Bridgerton. It's set in Georgian period and it is in the style of Jane Austin. Totally light, totally fluffy almost satire of the genera. If you want to take your brain out for a few hours it's great.

It has some interesting casting.

Friend wife watched Bridgerton and was pleased with it.  I carefully avoided it .  I figured it was a chick flick of the stuffy sort.

She is now deep into the series; Reign.  She says that it is a bit bloody.

Netflix comes across as a braincandy platform with no black comedy. The "comedians" on it recycle politically correct jokes by making seemingly newer ones through clever manipulation of words that are really just old.

"The Witcher" series on Netflix is a Hollywoodized joke considering its franchise progenitor, Andrzej Sapkowski, was much more imaginary and descriptive in the books. Characters were less wooden in the "Witcher" books, too.

I find only a very few shows on Netflix's platform to be worthwhile. Otherwise, it is a joke. It's why there are people pirating films and shows that get taken off its streaming service. Because they are tired of dealing with temporary access to specific movies or series.

Let me tell you why I am not a big Netflixer. Because I don't like big brother using his flawed algorithm to act like he knows me by suggesting shows or movies. It ruins my immersion as a consumer.

I have created multiple genera users eg Sci Fi, Comedy, War, Anima etc. That way I can control the Netflix algorithm to suit myself.

Orwell does his thing with 1984, he creates his very scary concept of Big Brother.
They are doing things with language in his dystopia, denying you the words to form the thoughts to rebel.

The next person thinks the present day WWEYA (We Will Enslave You All) Cabal will be happy that "Big Brother" gets applied to stupid reality TV shows and the marketing techniques of entertainment providers.

This isn't the next person thread.

Oh ye, right.

The Lost Daughter was a total downer but well done. I love Olivia Colman. The film is based on a book, and it felt like there were things that must've been in the book that they couldn't pack into the movie. Some story lines felt a little underdeveloped, but it was still a good watch.

Copenhagen Cowboy was great. Not sure I completely understood it, but the cinematography was gorgeous, and the characters were awesome. It had a fairy tale quality. I'll give most anything Nicolas Winding Refn does a go.
