So about Brexit?

Kinda surprised I'm not seeing more discussion about it here. How's everyone feeling? What the fuck is going to happen??
I liked this quote from Roger Cohen of the New York Times about the possibility of a second referendum:

I don't think that's so tin-foil hat from where I'm standing in the US.
Mostly I'm trying to make sense of the various political forces over in the UK. It seems insane to me that anyone is still in favor of this madness, but clearly there's a strong contingency that is, even if it means no deal, as shown by the new Brexit party. For example, what the hell is Jeremy Corbyn doing? Why is Labour basically waffling and trying to play both sides rather than just come out strongly against Brexit? Are they just scared of a backlash?
Would a second referendum really still win for leaving the EU?

Exactly. Except that Putin is rubbing his hands with glee.  The whole USA/UK/Western Europe alliance is falling apart.  Soon they will be inviting him back into Poland and Hungary.

It's nuts to leave the EU. Just like it was nuts for the South to leave the Union over here.  There is more strength in unity, and when nations/states start separating, that allows other forces to move into the void.  As one from a state that once separated, my advice is "don't do it", but it may be too late.

My working hypothesis is that that the british public have been duped into believing that their current financial discomfort is as a result of EU policy. And they keep voting domestically for the very people that maintain the upward flow of money. On a personal level, I've never worked so hard for so little benefit while all of my public services are going to shit. It isn't the fault of immigrants or dole scroungers or EU bureaucracy as the govenment and media would have you believe, its the policy makers of my own government stealing from me.
And as for Corbyn, the problem is that by taking a firm stance either side of the fence is to alienate half (almost exactly half) of his electorate. Too big a price to pay...

A second referendum is not a real solution either in terms of uniting the country. I do believe that, if put to the people again, we would end up remaining. The problem with that is that the Brexiters will - quite understandably - then call for best of three.

I find the claim that to have another vote would be undemocratic a bit odd.
The electorate would have to be a lot better informed now.
When we had a referendum to dump the queen and become a republic we voted for a particular model.
Wouldn't it have been better to have come up with a model, checked the EU was OK with it and then voted on it?
Well this is the kind of problem you get when you have land border, I recommend to everyone, situate your country on its own island.

Indeed and yes (respectively). Although "informed" requires head extraction from arses to be actionable.

Democracy is a process, not an event - (my new favorite intelligent-sounding buzz-phrase)
