Title: Rush Limbaugh dead
Post by: Ecurb Noselrub on February 17, 2021, 11:21:11 PM
I don't wish death on anyone, but Rush was sort of the foundation of a lot of the BS we see today on the American right. Trump is one of his legacies.

I always feel sorry for people who have died, even if I think the world is a better place without them.  And I can't be judgmental about all the people dancing on Limbaugh's grave, considering all the gleeful grave dancing he did in his time.  What goes around, as they say.

One of my brothers (maybe more, but I only saw it with the one) used to listen to that ^#$%^&*PESGYQWODTFODLOY#$%^*&. I remember hearing Lush Rimjob talk about "Obama's totalitarian regime", and asking my brother why he listened to that kind of shit. I don't remember his answer, atm. There are people out there who believe that Obama had a "totalitarian regime".  ::)

And then there's this: Limbaugh segment mocking gays who'd died of AIDS (https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/rush-limbaugh-mock-aids-gays/).  He stopped the segment after a few weeks because he felt harassed by people who objected to it.

I listened to him in the late 90's.  Like all cults, it starts off slowly - it was mainly about taxes and government regulation, when I listened. Then it started getting mean.  Little by little, people get used to that, and it makes them meaner. They start adopting that mindset.

The lesson for me is that on occasion you have to back out of whatever mindset you are in and look at it objectively. Ask yourself, "is this really how I want to be?".  That's not an easy task, because we get comfortable in whatever set of mental clothes we are wearing. But it is an exercise in self-discipline, so you don't get taken in and hypnotized by the doctrinal programmers, whether they be political, cultural, religious, or whatever. They are all selling something and looking for suckers.

EN has nailed it.  The problem is that there are vast armies of humans out there who are incapable or unwilling to look at things objectively.   Backing out of a mindset is difficult for realistic thinkers, damned near impossible for lesser mortals.

Degree of education is thought to be a determinate for the ability to practice objectivity.  That is not always the case.  Think Ted Cruz.  He has an impressive education from prestigious schools. But he is, observably, a real dumb ass who appears to have his mind on a monorail.  Then there are the Q believers. I fear that they are intellectually incapable of weighing evidence, examining history, judging behavioral patterns, considering logical analysis, etc.  Are these people hopeless?  All signs point in that direction............................................Does what I just typed also apply to me?  I am standing in judgement of those nit wits who disagree with me. I will need to stand waaaaay back in my mind set to be sure of my position.  I hope that I have the capacity to do that.

I try very hard to allow myself to be convinced by better arguments, but I find that those who argue the loudest very rarely have better arguments.

Rush was a nasty man who preyed upon the gullible among us. He had a huge radio audience who believed in his flights of fancy and his outright lies.

The problem is that he infected so many. I equate his rise to fame as an infestation of bedbugs.  You get one of them and soon there are thousands of them. They are very difficult to dispose of....the bedbugs and the Rushies as well.

My brother was a faithful listener to the Rush Limbaugh show. Everything he said was gospel. I hope no one takes his place. Not you No One although I'd love to hear your show.

Here's the article:Flags at half staff for Rush Limbaugh (https://www.cnn.com/2021/02/21/us/florida-desantis-limbaugh-flags/index.html)

Good finds Sandy. Those recollections date me with certainty. Your finds only suggest that you are a clever researcher.

Randy, I apologize for my dumbass governor. Be assured that I did not vote for him.  Silver posted this in a different thread: The world is composed of Electrons, Protons, Neurons, and Morons.  She got that one right.

Icarus, from what I can tell, based on Silver's chart the number of morons outweighs the amount of matter in the universe.

back in the 1990s i used to listen to rush limbaugh. not because i agreed with what he said, but because i wanted to learn what other people thought.

started when a man came to my door for some reason wearing a folded dollar bill on his shir. i asked a friend what that was about and he told me it meant the man was a "dittohead," someone who let limbaigh speak for them. so i started listening.

back then he wasn't so bad. he had a conservative agenda, but he presented arguments for why his positions were correct, annd he was often funny. cut to more recent times, and he had become just a shrill mouthpiece for far right speech. didn't mater waht it was, limbaugh would support ideas from teh right and decry ideas from the left, even if they were the same ideas. if he was right about something, he would point it out. if he was wrong, he would quietly ignore it and move on.

it was sad watching him degenerate into just mouthpiece, and i am not at all unhappy that he is dead. good riddance to a bad influence.

When Trump awarded Rush Limbaugh the Presidential Medal of Freedom at State of the Union, I googled his name for the first time. Now he is dead. I didn't miss much.
:reading:

May he rest in peace forever...If he ever learned what that was like when he was alive.  ::)

One of my brothers was listening to rush one day when I was visiting. It was awhile ago, and I heard him talking about, "...Obama's totalitarian regime...", and I asked my brother why he listened to that stupid kind of shit.
