my father in law was a follower of harold camping, the numerologist who predicted the end of the world three times and was wrong each time.
it was weird to talk to him about it. when camping turned out to be wrong and went into retirement, he never had anything else to say, just moved on, smiling andnodding.
It's amazing how erm...misled...people can be. This whole QAnon cult is something else.
The Q anon people are enigmas. A recent New York Times article sought to examine that particular demographic. According to the article they are predominantly blue collar, less educated, and at least borderline angry. A conspicuous trait is that many of them have serious financial problems including bankruptcies, and foreclosures. More than a few of them have difficulty maintaining their child support payments. That implies that they have had marital difficulties. A disproportionate number of them have rap sheets that are mostly for minor offenses like shoplifting or petty theft. They tend to be firearm proponents and dedicated Trump acolytes.
The dangerous part is that there are so many of them. I do not pretend to analyze the sociological implications. A tentative thought is that economics may be at one of the roots of the problem. The US is not alone with this social disorder. The news, and fear, is that the Q plague has taken hold in parts of Europe and the UK.

Yeah, I know that it is the US, but could we go back to teaching basic reading, writing and arithmetic, already? At some point all the kids who weren't taught properly and not vaccinated are going to be dead. It's a terrible situation for those involved. The chump has no plan and doesn't give the amount of feces he might collect under a fingernail when wiping his ass, about anyone else.

What they think is that the military and national guard are going to stage a coup and install Trump as the 19th President (the 19th because Grant was the last legitimate President - see it all makes sense). They think Trump is still calling the shots behind the scenes.
I am not entirely sure that "think" can be used in any capacity in regards to these utter lunatics.

He just about has already. I'm expecting him to ramp up for the 2024 election. I think he said he is going to support some senators in 2022. They seem to be holding steadfast.

We are living in a puzzling time. There are large numbers of people who appear to believe in some far fetched socio-political improbabilities. The puzzle is this: do they actually, honest to goodness, believe so much of the absurd pronouncement of their peers. Was Trump the only one involved in opening the Pandora box of lies and conspiracy theories.
My newspaper editorial page today gave space to a reasonably skilled writer. The writer espoused claims that the Democrats will destroy the country, that the new Biden immigration rules will cause loss of American jobs. Those losses will cause widespread poverty that we have never before endured. The illegal immigrants are causing rampant spread of the Covid virus. Trump presided over the most productive and profitable period in our history....and yada, yada, yada.
The scary part is that either the writer believes all that bullshit or he believes that he could convince you and me of that bullshit.

Of course he had nothing to back that claim up with. In fact, many of these types of posters don't seem to have anything to back up their stories except for what they read on QAnon or hear through the grapevine.

I agree. Our current style of government is pretty flawed. I just don't know what could be better but then I was never much into politics.
I heard somewhere that Nancy Pelosi and the FBI made this whole thing up. Doesn't seem to make much sense though.

The really funny thing from my point of view is that from this side of the Pacific, both US political parties seem pretty right wing to me. Certainly the Dems are hardly anything like a socialist left wing party and no where near a socialist one.
Correct. They forget, Obama and Biden were in power for 8 years, and they didn't destroy us or turn us into a Socialist nation. I cannot identify one single right that they took away from me. Everyone here in the USA is wound up too tight. They need some French wine, and then they will mellow out. I hear there is a great French wine review on this forum.
