I forget where I found this, but I thought it so adorable (and pretty much my attitude toward prayer) that I snagged it immediately and, knowing there are a number of cat lovers on this forum I thought I'd share it.

A little racier, but I figure we're all adults here and there's more than a few who'll get a laugh out of it:

You do look like the Juliet statue.  For some reason I was imagining you as a more Marian the Librarian type.  Who's the man of honor, your brother?

He's my best friend. We went to highschool together, and I had a huge crush on him, but once we graduated highschool he came out of the closet and crushed all of my romantic ambitions, haha. We're still very close and he's the "godfather" of our little boy.

SweetDeath, I love your hair! I always want to have cool/funky hair, but I never feel like I can pull it off without looking like a total dork :P

Hah, my childhood friend just came out to me last week. We've known eachother for 20yrs, which is pretty cool.

Oh, thank you! I am usually blonde, but once a year I go  blue/black for a few weeks.

I'm having a hard time putting the two faces together in one person.  Something about them looks like two completely separate people. Does anyone besides me have this problem?  Or am I simply deficient?

Welllll, they're me? It could be hard to make it "one" person because you've never actually seen me in person, so you have nothing to compare them to. I'm also making a weird face in the last one. So that one's probably more accurate, because I'm usually making weird faces.

I suppose I could post a dozen or so other pictures, and then your brain would take the average of all of them and you'd get a more truly accurate idea of real life "DJ-ness" but, uh, I'd rather not.

You have three pictures, that's all yer gettin'! :P

P.S. When's everyone else posting their pictures? What is this, a peep show?

Oh, I believe you - it's just that the first two are clearly (for me) the same person, but something about the third presents a completely different aspect.  I suppose your "weird face" theory explains it.  I'll post something of me later - it won't be pretty like yours.

The two on the sides of my lower lip are snakebites. They sort of feel like a snake bite to do, but I think the name is derived from them usually coming in pairs (I have two more, those with other names), resembling a snakebite wound.

Mine are relatively high and relatively far apart because I did those after the middle one. The top one is the last I did (Also had an industrial in my ear, but lost it just long enough for the holes to grow. Gonna redo it at some point, and there is one in my eyebrow just hidden by the hood... Plus a pair of regular earrings in each ear)

Maybe your progeny will have a gentle temperament, be loving and tolerant to all things. Maybe it'll be docile and timid.

No, My mum doesn't mind makeup. I scrubbed most of it off in the bathroom when we got there. Makeup attracts dirt, so if I wear any and go to the barn, I look like I've been rolling in the mud.

The labret was done in Stockholm. The medusa in Sandvika at Leading Light studio (I didn't do the cyberbite in one go - there were a couple of years between)

The snakebites I did at the same time in Oslo at Oslo BodyArt, I think.

The eyebrow, which you do not see, was done in Tromsø and the ears were done... All over the world, really.

I've been on forums where it can get quite bitchy when the photo's come out. It's very much a two edged sword. I like seeing what people look like, just to see what they look like. But I don't like that some people, none here I might add, turn people picture threads into a sort of beauty contest. Some people turn into Grade 'A' attention whores, both male and female!

Very, very true, my friend. I think the key is to throw a picture out there every now again, for curiousity's sake, but not to have a dedicated "what do you look like thread" which can turn into a pissing contest.

I think it was Amanda Holden who once said she was fed up that only arrogant arseholes tried to hit on her and so did Gwyneth Paltro. Attractive women can be quite difficult to approach because one often assumes they will be 'taken' already, they often travel in pack which doesn't help, some men can simply feel they aren't attractive enough themselves. So this tends to leave the arrogant narcissist male with a free field on which to play when it comes to chatting up attractive women.

I used to be quite shy when I was a kid, but going into sales cured me of that and there is nothing easier than just giving a smile and judging the reaction to see if they want to chat. When I'm in the mood I'll go shopping and see how many yummy mummy's I can get a smile from. It's usually 50% or so, simply because you smile at people. People are the worlds greatest communicators and we love to do it.

Don't attempt negative psychology on a negative psyche.
The positive stuff won't work either, I'll just flip states.
I don't like any of my contemporary photos, even in the old ones I always seem to be doing something odd.
I don't understand it, I always seemed to look kind of normal in the mirror.

The forced smile doesn't help, maybe if the photographer was fast it'd be OK, but once I hold a smile for more than thirty seconds the absurdity of existence strikes me, and it shows, kinda like a stroke victim.

My friends and I call it "dead eye syndrome". When you're forced to hold the "smile" pose for more than 2 seconds, your eyes go "dead" and it makes you look bored/dead inside/psycho

I'm using the hold camera, extend arm and shoot method.

Villainous pudding monologue mode:

To whom it may concern: bwa ha ha.
I've been noticing things, Asmo devotional threads=17 Pudding devotional threads=-7.
Never has the Asmodean been as vulnerable as he is now.
He has ears and at least one nose, hair waiting to be seized drawing in the skull for crushing by cruel insentient cogs, (don't you say anything about the use of cruel and insentient unless you,,, just don't) the possibilities for distraction are obvious.
Should we (we means me, it's a villain thing) precipitate or stick to plan?
Let him make  the enemies and the devotees, and when he wins out the assassin strikes, I strike the assassin.  The enemies are assuaged the devotees transfer their devotion to the pudding. And why not the pudding! settle settle...
Yes we will be patient, stick to our (our means mine, it's a villain thing) plan.

I wonder if there is a happy pic of The Asmo somewhere...  ???

Probably not... But if you turn an Asmo upside down, it sort of looks all smiling and pleasant-like, yes?  :D
Does Asmo likr his tummy tickled then?

Bahahaha.  This made me laugh out loud, but I have the most terrible cold which has made my voice horrible and raspy, so it came out like a witch's cackle.  It scared the dog.

Here's my FB picture.  I don't have much else saved on my computer except a bunch of really old stuff from photobucket.

I loved this thread!  It's so nice to see what all of you look like in real life.  And judging from this thread, I have to posit that atheists are sexier than your average bear.  You people are hot!

Stupid question, but do you actually call him "Small One" or do you use the Norwegian words for "Small One"? (Per Google Translate "Liten" or "Liten En" or "Småen")
Title: Re: Icons

Småen, yes. But also Small One. Is short for The Great And Terrible Claws(tm) (Don't ask how... I don't know  :-\ )

The emo-pic is up in the color-thread for those interested, btw, thanks to Guardian's uncanny ability never to use the conveniently located delete-button.

Notice the difference in the way "r" is pronounced in Finnish. Now try to tell me "faen" sounds better!

Fuck and double fuck and satan and bastard-(Insert frustrating bits, preferably with another curse attached, like dritt */shit) and the overfucked (Insert whos fault, preferably with another curse word attached, like rævhøl */asshole)

Transcripting pronounciation across languages is a fucking art, but generally, words like satan are not pronounced "seiten" here - the transcription would therefor pretty much be "satan", with the same kind of sound as "bAstard"

If nothing else this demonstrates the futility of age varification on the internet  :D

There was a time where this video didn't have an age restriction. That was put on recently.  :P

Nothing I've found on YT so far, exept maybe for that vid of that Syrian kid's rotting remains, warrants an age limit in the first place...

...According to me, of course.

There were pictures in this post. They've been removed, because I prefer not to post any pictures of myself anywhere online for too long. If you'd still like to see them, please PM me. :)

OMFSM!  To be a young man in the middle of four beautiful young women - and he's gay.  :'(

Come to think of it, maybe that's how he gets to be there.

Actually, I could not wait to tell my straight guy friends about the night I was surrounded by hot babes who wanted my phone number...  Jealous would be an understatement.

The explanation: Until 2004, although I was out of the closet and called myself agnostic after leaving Christianity, I still suffered large pangs of guilt and religious fear.  Finally, in 2004, I was ready to commit to atheism--but not before a brief dabble in Wicca as a sort of compromise between theism and atheism.  I found a group here in New York and went to a meeting.  As luck would have it, that particular group was about 90% female, and, since the meeting was on a weekend with nice weather in the middle of the summer, none of the male regulars came.  I was a noobie and the only male, and everyone wanted to hear my story and let me know that I could talk to them if I had spiritual issues, this despite my being openly gay.

My straight friends said that they should convert to Wicca...  :D

Asmo, you are so fluffy! Urge to swuish you rising.

I used to have three lip piercings, but took em out around 22 years old because i hated taking them out for job stuff. People and their prejudice suck.

I think I was 21 here. My friend and I had a random glam rock day. XDD

I have always had a soft spot for punks and goths ever since I watched the original Degrassi High and wanted to have a friend like Spike.  I adore her.

Anyway...  There was an episode in which she was not hired for a job because of her punk hair.  (I do show bits and pieces of Degrassi in my ESL classes.  Maybe I should consider showing that event and have students discuss it...)

It has been such a delight going through this thread and "seeing" all of you.

Here are photos of me that I scanned from my university's yearbook a couple of years ago.  I assume the ones of me teaching dramatically were snapped by students with camera phones.

Here is a slightly more flattering self-portrait, although, unfortunately, you can also see my weight gain in it over the past few years.  I am dieting and exercising like a fiend, and then of course I have to keep it off for life...  I hope, at some very distant future date, to post thinner me with pride.

For me, teaching is even better than sex!

On a more grounded note...

We all have a good time, and I learn as much from my students as they learn from me.

And...

As a skeptic and a former Fundamentalist Christian once afraid to think about such beliefs critically, I make sure to insert critical thinking into English as a Second Language.  Here, for example, is something I have done a few times with very advanced classes of college-age students.  Cut and pasting from something I posted to young people elsewhere on the Internet...

---

On a number of occasions, I lie to my class. I tell them that our Founding Fathers based the Declaration of Independence and Constitution on the writings of the lost continent of Atlantis. I then spew forth nonsense and even write an 'example' of the Atlantean language on the board: karooka kawakka karinga karoopagoo. (Actually, Karooka Kawakka Karinga Karoopagoo is the name of a woman in a science fiction story I wrote when I was much younger.)

When I say "Copy down all the karooka," they scribble away dutifully.

Sometimes a student objects, saying that this cannot possibly be true. (Such students will go far in life.) More often, however, I can have the class going for ten or fifteen minutes. Everyone believes me.

At that point I stop and say that everything I have told them is a lie. Students are stunned. Teachers don't lie.

Heck, of course we lie! We then have a discussion about why they believed me: I am the authority figure; I am a nice guy; I seem intelligent; I speak well; teachers are supposed to give true information... Yet, I lied.

We then talk about things we read in textbooks and newspapers, things we see on TV... And the word propaganda comes up. I am a liberal, but I am the first to admit that we liberals are full of as much crap as conservatives and radicals. Of course all of us lie, exaggerate, and quote biased references to sell you our viewpoints and get you to join our political parties, religious (or non-religious) institutions, social cliques, and so on.

The bottom line: Don't believe it because a nice guy tells you. I tell my classes that I will be lying more often, and that they have to decide when to believe me and when not to believe me. I want them to have critical minds when listening to others.

Don't believe it just because it is in print. Even people who mean to tell the truth can make mistakes. I have found many mistakes in The New York Times, for example.

Trust yourself. There are of course many correct things said by people and found in print--but you have to find your own beliefs yourselves. Remember that you can always change your views. And remember that life is about living with uncertainty.

That's an eloquent demonstration of experiential  learning. In my academic career, I found students becoming increasingly instrumentalist in their approach; they were exclusively concerned at securing good grades and had no interest in the subject matter in its own right. If I had told my class that the content of my lectures was a pack of lies, they would be likely to have responded by saying- okay, fine, but will we still get marks for it in the exam?
