He is the best lyricist in the history of music, but this was a surprise.

I think he deserves it.

Yes, he's probably had more impact on the way the western world sees things than most writers.

Hmm... I oppose with no better candidate.

I object as well, there are many better authors than Bob Dylan.  I'd rather give the Nobel Prize to John Irving, Iain M. Banks, Cormac McCarthy or even Stephen King.

I guess I don't really know too much about Nobel prizes... has the literature category historically included poetry? If so, this seems perfectly reasonable. If it generally reserved for novels, then I suppose it doesn't really make much sense.

Poets have won before.  Dylan is as good a modern poet as we have.

Of course he deserves it and a peace one too.
It's nice to celebrate one of the greats without mourning their passing or carking or mortal uncoiling.

I don't know how he feels about it, but the Dylan I worshipped in the 60's would have been horrified and maybe there really would have been reason to shout "Judas".

Apparently Dylan doesn't have much to say to the Swedish Academy...

They said they were tired of "knock, knock, knockin' on" Dylan's door.

Then he said "it ain't me babe, it ain't me you're looking for babe."

Then they said "don't stand in the doorway, don't block up the hall" because maybe someone else wants it.

Then he said "you just sorta wasted my precious time - don't think twice, it's alright."

Then they said "how does it feel, to be on your own, without" a Nobel prize.

And he said "how many times will it take" till they know I don't want it.

That's all as may be, but he's bloody rude if the papers are to be believed.
