Post by: MarcusA on April 30, 2023, 03:23:22 AM
To be a parent is to believe in yourself.

To believe in yourself, is a mayonnaise sandwich.

If you didn't believe in yourself, you wouldn't become a parent.

That's not how it works.

I don't agree. We are evolved organisms that exist for the sole reason of making more of us. Anything else is really just fluff. Reproduction is our only 'purpose'.

My first sexual encounters were not precisely self-assured. Thinking back, they could have resulted in a pregnancy or two as well. Happened to one of my classmates when he was about 16.

Believing in yourself can certainly help when it comes to the number of potential pregnancy-inducing encounters, but it's not required.

From there, there is also a matter of relevance. How relevant is believing in yourself to making babies? I'd say "not very."

"Sex is good. Let's have some. Ooh! a baby. Well, now we're fucked!" Is this course of events implausible? I think not.

I don't believe in myself. I don't have any children of my own.

Conversely, I'm an arrogant SOB, yet somehow also childless. Perhaps there are priorities there far ahead of self-image?

If I teach children anything, it is how not to behave.

Eh... In the immortal words of philosopher Dr. Gregory House, "all parents screw up all children." It's an accurate enough statement. Me? I just try not to "help" overmuch.

It can get you far, if not by itself. However, you still only have a few days with no water and a few weeks with no food. Self-belief is not a magic wand. It will not conjure you that.

What it can, is help (to a degree) in salary negotiations, navigating the traffic, getting past the first date - that sort of stuff. It may help, but it will actually do absolutely nothing for you.

Only by believing in yourself can you love others.

I'm an embrace the self doubt sort of person.
And yet I love a few a other persons.
Makes me doubt the validity of single line wisdoms I read on the internet.

Putting it another way: Without self-respect, how can you expect to respect others?

I don't.

In a way, I think this is "the right question." Personally, I wouldn't expect to respect somebody or be respected, but knowing one's own worth and being at peace with it may indeed contribute to more easily recognising worth in others - something to respect.

Believing in yourself is but one small step to believing in others.

Believing in yourself is simply saying yes to yourself.

If you say yes too much, you'll go blind.

Yeah, those tidbits of grandma wisdom never seem to work for The Asmo. :sadshake: Still waiting for His palm-of-the-hand hair for having a wank every now and again.

Maybe it's them stolen severed hands He's been using. They are getting a bit... fermented, what with all this heat...

...Huh? What The Asmo's on about, you ask? Impossible to say. Mysterious ways and all that. Something about hair. :smilenod:

Why not just take the approach of knowing your own worth, so you neither have to believe nor doubt, except in some outlier situations?

Believing in oneself is a spiritual aspect of reality because to believe in ourselves requires us to understand the nature of a God. We cannot truly believe in ourselves without acknowledging a body, soul and spirit we possess.
