That is very impressive!

That is certainly very interesting. 3D printing opens so many possibilities.

Thanks, and yeah, 3D printing is exciting stuff now that it's more accessible.

I guess metal printing is still not very accessible, or is it?.

Not metal printers, those are still very pricey for both the printers and and the materials.

Fixit stuff indeed.  I have lately been busting my hump with several home repair projects.  I have a small front porch supported by a column that had rotted at the base. I jacked up the corner of the porch removed the old column, built an entirely new one and put it into place.

Then, according to wifely demands, I had to replace a storm door on the other side of my house.  That was a bitch of a job because the replacement (her selection from the big box store) was of a different size from the old one.  That involved changing the dimensions of the door opening. Much table saw, hammering, chiseling, re painting, and profanity ensued.  I finally have the new storm door in place.

Now I am not really happy about having to replace or repair a third exterior door. That too is going to be a bitch. I will begin to tackle that job later this week. ( damn I getting becoming tired and weary from all that work) After that I have to build a roll up sunscreen for the west side, sunny side, of my screened porch. That involves sewing some canvas, I do have an industrial grade sewing machine.........I am  qualified with canvas work as one of my past businesses was a canvas and heavy fabric factory. Damn I do hope that I survive all this physical activity.

I'd much rather take my time and build bird houses or something on a smaller scale.

All that activity is good for you. Allegedly  ;D

lowes in ohio will install an exterior door for $200, after you buy it.

One of my friends was selling a rollaway tool chest on Craigslist. He mentioned that to me last Friday because people were chiseling the price and then asking him to deliver it 30 miles away, to boot! $300. I said I'd buy it, he said $200 in my case. I told him I'd be over to his house in an hour, and one of my sons, my friend and I loaded it in the back of my son's pickup. 42" wide X 33" tall (less wheels) X 18" deep. It now stands (with a top chest same width) behind where I run the table saw, and has most of the tools I use with the table saw in it. The melamine cabinet that used to stand there got cut up and used for a shelving unit for totes that I put the "boutique" wood I've purchased over the years. That wood was purchased over many years when I spotted it at the wood store, simply for the beauty of the grain, when purchasing other wood for other projects. I'm finally at a point where I can start using it. The garage "shop" is still a bit disorganized, as that cabinet held more than the tool chest does. One more cabinet to build...

Icarus

DL, one mans junk is another mans treasure.  You can score some beautiful wood on the side of the road.  People throw out old furniture and cabinetry that has some very old and very expensive (in this day) salvageable wood.  The problem is that there is so much of it, our garages workshop begins to be overwhelmed.

Dark Lightning

Indeed. I go by the Habitat for Humanity ReStore periodically to see what I can find, There was a set of mahogany doors with particle board covered with some crazy grain, but melamine or something like it, and some had mirrors. They were asking $200 per door, which actually wasn't too far off the mark for the mahogany, at retail. But there were 8 of them, and I wasn't dropping $1600 on that wood. I had foot surgery, and by the time I got back to the store, those doors were gone, along with a huge bunch of other doors. I strongly suspect that they went to the crusher.  :(

So an old woman (>50) my wife works with wanted a new laptop because her old one was super slow.  I'd been volunteered to fix the old one before and that was painful, why do they put anything less than an I3 in anything?  Anyway I did get chocolate for my troubles.

So I ordered
QuoteLenovo Ideapad Flex 5 14-inch i5-1035G1/8GB/512GB SSD 2 in 1 Device
it's adequate, some like touching their screen, paid for it with my dollars.
It arrives so I get my thumb drive out to update windows but it doesn't want to go in, but I want it to go in, so I push, I push it too much, I knew I was pushing it too much.
Fuck, I'll send it back, you should be able to stick a usb stick in a usb port, so I put it back in its box.  I'm thinking I may end owning the thing, I'm not a laptop person, I don't want a new laptop.

Laptop comes back out of box, inspect the 2 USB ports, the pins are bent back.
If only I could bend them back...
I have to stick something in there, a plastic floss toothpick thing is useless, it's going to have to be a metal something.  You can't take the battery out easily in these new fangled laptops, poking a metal thing in there might not be a good thing, I'm not sure that they shut down completely.

That was my solution, strip a bit of insulation from a wire, stick on a pin and bend the end of the pin.  It did the job.

The problem USB thumb was a Sandisk with plastic where most are metal.  All other things I tried fit in there OK.

Take my advice, don't listen to me.

That definitely comes under the 'fix it' heading.
