Title: Mr. Biden
Post by: Ecurb Noselrub on January 13, 2021, 02:16:50 PM
I have to say that I have been quite impressed with Mr. Biden throughout this entire affair.  His calm demeanor conveys an inner confidence and assurance.  Perhaps it's a result of all the personal tragedy and suffering he has been through, or as a result of his age and vast experience, or his personal psychological makeup. It's probably all three combined, with help and support from his equally calm wife, Dr. Jill.  In any event, at the times when I was most prone to really worry (when the Electoral College met, when Congress convened, when the insurrection occurred), he has been "steady as she goes."  To me that conveys the message that everything is going to be alright. It's refreshing for a leader to have that kind of attitude. I so look forward to January 20.

everything is up in the air.

is he too nice to get anything done?

with the senate split so finely, it will take only one democratic senator to disagree to scuttle any of the programs he wants to enact.

th erepublican party has become a symbol of crackpots, fascists, and cynics. unless the trump impeachment initiates a sea changethere, they won't be of any help.

so tthere's no telling whether biden's administration will mark th ebeginning of something better or the end of all hope for change.

Some Republican people are already distancing themselves from the chump. It's a pity they didn't do it 4 years ago. Everybody just sat there, staring in horror at the skunk on the table.

Biden just announced his Science Team.  The main person is now part of the Cabinet.  I don't have all their names, but Biden intends to elevate science.

remember the newly-elected president of lebanon, back when the christians ran the government and the druse and the muslims ran the economy? it was a successful division of labor that had worked for many years. he was a well-liked statesman who was going to go great places. i guess its been forty years.

then he was assassinated, and lebanon descended into the chaos from which it has never recovered.

i keep looking at biden and wondering whether he will also be a great hope for recnciliation that will be negated by something similar

Who would have thought that science would get elevated in this country? I'm glad it will be though. I meant to post something about it but was beaten to it. :)

The thought of someone assassinating Joe has concerned me even more since the insurrection. So many people trying to tear the country apart for the country's sake. It's ironic and tragic,

I'm seeing around the internet that the people who the chump incited to riot and insurrection are now turning on him, after he disavowed their actions. When one starts messing with reactive elements, one may get burned. Same for chemistry and politics, it would seem. And it would be poetic justice if one of those crazies capped the chump. Though I will have to say that the kind of eedjits he attracts and encourages don't seem to have the necessary critical skills for such an endeavor. Both good and bad, really.

I too have some concern about the safety of both Joe and Kamala.  We have been warned by the lunatic behavior of the mob at the capitol building and the discovery of all sorts of guns, bombs, molatov cocktails in the possession of more than one of the perps.

As for the Chump, maybe he will fall into a gopher hole at one of his golf courses.

Something just occurred to me. We know that at least one Capitol Hill police officer was involved in the riot and I think someone from the Air Force. But whatever, the point is what if one of those troops that is there to oversee the inauguration decides to kill Mr. Biden? Maybe they have a way to vet it out. Still, with more people the greater the chance.

I wish him and Ms. Harris well and that they begin to get this nation of ours out of this mess.

That's a chilling thought. I hope that the snipers on the rooftops during the swearing in are loyal to the US instead of the chump and want to allow it to complete successfully...even if it means capping one of the NG troops. What a surreal time we live in.

I've been reading about that a few moments ago. That's a lot of guards to vet. I wonder how the FBI can handle that many so quickly? Apparently they have more advanced skills than what is seen on a television show,

Depending on what those guardsmen do for their civilian jobs, many may already have security clearances. And, generally speaking, malcontents are probably already vetted out. I've never seen a  security clearance background check take less than 5 months.

The problem is that our nation is full of malcontents.  This has been a real eye-opener - I never knew how bad it had gotten with regard to people just completely believing an alternate political and social reality.  The level of conspiracy theories buzzing through this country is practically psychotic in nature.

bruce, youve brought up what i think i sthe most serious problems affecting the civil discourse in this country.

how are we all going to get to a place where the dominant conversation accpets a common set of underlying facts?

the net has sadly allowed the village kooks and idiots to find each other and reinforce their mutual craziness. then the cynical half of the US government discovered that they could use it and made it worse by feeding the trolls.

now we can't talk to each other baecause fully half the concerned population believes the faicry tales from the scrackpots, fascists, and fools, and there is no way to break through their bubble.

i don't know where we can go to get out s of this.

Lack of civil discourse is indeed a huge problem. I recognize the problem, but I don't have any answers, either, beyond educating our youth while they are growing up. And that's a problem with the home-schooling for religious reasons.

Wish I had a solution.  I'm hoping that a steady dose of truth from Biden will start to have some effect over a few years.  It starts when they actually see him sworn in, because many of them believe that will not happen.  Once they get disillusioned, the walls of mendacity begin to crack.

Well. Since he's white, they won't be hanging or burning him in effigy like was done with Obama.  >:( Fuxxake, I'd really like to see some grownup attitudes in those grownup bodies. My personal take is that the sites like FaceBook, etc., should not allow ANY extreme rhetoric.

I can not lie, I didn't care for all of the Christian/theist pandering in the inauguration... BUT at least President Biden will not be spending his administration destroying the separation of church and state through legislation.

The "relaxation" I felt before the god awful 2016 election has returned for the first time since then. We have an adult in the White House again.

A lot of us have been experiencing that.  I already felt relieved but had no idea I'd feel it as strongly as I did once Biden and Harris were officially sworn in.

I didn't mind all the Christy stuff so much, I think partly because I knew Biden actually meant it -- it wasn't just another layer of lies and hypocrisy as it was with Trump -- and because these were liberal Xtians and, as you mentioned, much less likely to cause trouble over the separation clause.

I personally thought it would slight others such as the Muslims. As an atheist it doesn't bother me but I'm pretty sure there were more religious groups out there that voted for Biden.

With the QAnon prophecy that Joe Biden would not be inaugurated yesterday, I wonder if any of them got a dose of reality? Probably not anymore than religious nuts who believe in the return of their messiah on such and such a date and it lapses.
