In my neck of the woods, Florida, we would also be worthless at 46 centigrade, or 114.8 F.  38 C would be an unusual occurrence here.

The only time I approach that body temp is when I am seriously angered by my governor and his shit head Trumpist senators, representatives, and State Surgeon General.

Ashes or dust? Will not matter if we get into a nuke confrontation with the Ruskies. Otherwise: I am a member of the former Hemlock society, now known as the Neptune society. I will be cremated so I reckon the answer is ashes.

I accept the current classification of Pluto as a non-planet, though technically it is known as a "Dwarf Planet" (There is now discussion of having that changed to "Little Planet Planet")
I also like to join the scientific community each August 24th to celebrate Pluto's historic downgrade with a holiday that is referred to as "Pluto Demoted Day".

Fiddle or Violin
Title: Re: You choose...
Post by: Bluenose on March 23, 2022, 02:06:26 AM
violin, but that is probably due to the large preponderance of beautiful classic music featuring violin compared to the relatively smaller selection to choose from of excellent folk/hillbilly/etc music that features the fiddle.

bagpipes or banjo
Title: Re: You choose...

Drums or rocks?

Sorry to interrupt everyone, but I wanted to insert that yes, fiddles and violins are the exact same instruments which are simply played in different styles. However. Some instruments are expressly designed for fiddling as opposed to classical playing. Such instruments often have a flatter bridge, which brings the strings slightly closer to the fingerboard. This makes certain fiddle techniques, like rapid string crossings and chording, more manageable, but even after all of that it's still technically a violin.
Many violinists will affectionately refer to their instrument as their fiddle, as the meaning of the word will simply be specific to the person speaking it, and refers to the style style of music performed by the player.

trains or planes?
I prefer to travel by plane due to the quickness of a flight, but I have been thinking lately of taking a nice long train ride somewhere.
When I was a young man I used to travel by train often from Detroit to Toronto or Chicago with friends and partners. We would spend most of our time in the bar car drinking,...usually we would be quite tipsy when we got to our location.  ;D
When I was a kid my family went on a long train ride through the Canadian Rockies, and I loved it...one of the best vacations of my youth, sigh...

Also, when I was in the Army and stationed at Fort Lee, VA I occasionally took short train rides as I didn't have a car at the time. I really enjoyed just sitting, and watching the world go buy while listening to music and reading a good book.

A long train ride right now sounds quite nice and relaxing.

Title: Re: You choose...

I haven't been to either place, but would one day like to visit both. If I have to choose one over the other I have no clue which would be better so I did a quick search, and found the exact same question on "Fodor's Travel Talk Forums" (https://www.fodors.com/community/united-states/santa-fe-vs-sedona-992141/)
After reading the responses I choose Sedona because of the red rocks.

A large, and well stocked library or a large, and well stocked vinyl record collection?

A well-stocked library, in which I also keep my well-stocked collection of vinyl.

You are somewhere in Mid-America. You want to take an actual road trip in a car (assume you have plenty of money for gas and a car that will make it). Where will you go: West Coast or East Coast?
Title: Re: You choose...
Post by: Icarus on April 01, 2022, 01:21:23 AM
The Oregon coast is spectacular. Worth the effort to go there and explore the scenery.  Not my thing however. Being a flatlander, I would enjoy the east coast places more than the west coast. I can be happy in unspectacular places like the South Carolina salt marshes.

The bread for grilled cheese sandwiches can be coated with butter after toasting then placed in the micro to melt the cheese between the two slices.   An alternative system is to coat the bread with mayonnaise and brown it in a skillet. Then add the cheese between slices, cover with the skillet lid and melt the cheese.

Which way? butter or Mayonnaise?
Title: Re: You choose...

The combination of cheese with mayonnaise sounds very adventurous. I think that I'll stick with butter.

I am going to Palermo's Pasta House tonight with my wife.  It is in Round Rock, Texas, my home town, a cool little place north of Austin. I am in a quandary over what sauce to order to put over my spaghetti:  Bolognese or Carbonara?  Help!
Title: Re: You choose...
Post by: Biggus Dickus on April 08, 2022, 11:28:29 PM
Sir, these two are not comparable, in fact I would go so far as to say carbonara is not even a sauce!

It's created directly on the cooked pasta. Ragu bolognese is a meaty preparation cooked well in advance of dressing the pasta (tagliatelle or lasagne verdi), and usable in different ways.

They also come from completely different traditions, and are used on different kinds of pasta (Though carbonara is usually used on spaghetti, so this may be the better choice for you tonight).

However. Bolognese is and should certainly be considered "nobler" then carbonara,...which by the way is just a handful of cured pork, a couple of eggs, and some grated pecorino.

As for which is "better,"...it depends where you are, and what you like. Me, I'm going bolognese!

You're stuck on a 12 flight from Korea to the US, and you get a choice of seat-mates. Who is it going to be:

A Christian Missionary coming back from her first trip abroad saving souls?

A person on their first flight, who every time the plane makes a noise grabs your arm with their nails, and say's   "Oooh, that didn't sound right did it"?

The stinky feet, take off their shoes, snorer who's drunk before you even take off and is constantly talking out load about stupid shit to no one in particular? (Not our No-one)

Title: Re: You choose...
Post by: Icarus on April 09, 2022, 05:59:31 AM
On a flight that long, you may be able to persuade the missionary lady that she has been misinformed about the Jesus thing. Failing that you may have to strangle her........... or maybe buy her enough booze to make her sleep.

Tequila or Vodka?
Title: Re: You choose...
Post by: Ecurb Noselrub on April 09, 2022, 06:54:17 PM
I like both, but probably the nod goes to Vodka.

Papa, I chose Bolognese last night, and I was thrilled beyond words to see that you, also, would go that route.

It is the year 2250.  Medical science has developed to the point that it can manipulate genes even after birth to allow you to have some attribute that you did not have before. All babies are born completely neuter and must choose their sex/gender at the age of 16. What do you choose to be - male or female?

if we can manipulat genes to that extent, i would want to be a male . . . sperm whale.

i actually wouldnt mind being female, but th ewhale thing is because i love the sea and like calamari. plus im curious as to what th eocean is like way down as deep as they go.

Visit China or visit Japan?

Title: Re: You choose...
Post by: Tom62 on April 10, 2022, 01:43:07 PM
I've seen parts of China in 1996, but only visited Tokyo on a business trip. So, I settle for Japan because I don't want to support a country that violates human rights.

umm, just sayin, japan has a long history of human rights violations.

unit 731 comes to mind.

or the current erasure of their treatment of chinese and koreans during the last war. japan has a rich cultural heritage, but a big part of that is their sense of racial superiority over the rest of the world and currently an entitlement complex because they were atom bombed in 1945.

Gas or electric for heating?
Title: Re: You choose...

Electric.  1) I'm used to it; 2) I always have a slight fear that everything will blow up with gas; 3) better for the environment (assuming the electricity itself does not come from a fossil fuel plant).

You decide to learn a new language to put yourself in a better position to travel, learn new cultures, and explore new business opportunities. What language do you learn: Spanish or Mandarin?
