I heard about that Mother! movie -- even the review was incoherent, and they were really trying to sort it out.

The worst movie I've seen lately was The Snowman, with Michael Fassbender (why I chose it in the first place).  Very confusing and worse, when I read the book I saw the movie had made massive changes to the plot, none of which improved the story.  At all.

The movie was extremely disappointing. Those books are so good. Making a movie that bad from a book that was that good took some work.

Haven't seen it and won't, based on your post. But reading about it makes it seem like an allegory from the first part of Genesis, with mother being nature or the Earth and Him being God. Great actors - too bad it sucked.

Yes you're correct about the source material. The really annoying thing is that Jennifer Lawrence puts in a cracking performance, but the story develops so slowly and then gets so weird that her performance is overwhelmed. Great shame for her. Javier Bardem, who is so good in No Country for old men, labours with a part that is so bland it could have been done with a cardboard cut out! It's a bit of a vanity piece for the director I think.

I used to be a member of a group who called themselves the "Gummy Bear Fan Club".  We used to get together to watch all manner of animated and other films and have a laugh together or discuss serious things as the case may be.  However, on one occasion we watched "Godzilla and the Cosmic Space Monster".  You may be familiar with "steady-cam" technology.  Well, this movie was filmed with "shaky-cam", on top of which the animation of the monsters was pathetic and the story hopeless, the acting fraught.  All in all this movie is a real turkey.  It's not even so bad it's good.  It's just bad.

Correct, the film is so far mired in the abyss of badness it's almost transcendent.

I currently have in my possession The Best Worst Movie Ever Made. Not the documentary about the film, but the abomination known as Troll 2 itself. It is fantastic in its ridiculousness. There are zero trolls in the film. The film is not a sequel. The title was an attempt to trick people into thinking it was the sequel to the somewhat popular Troll which was completely unrelated in any way.

If you like movies that are so bad that they are fun to watch give it a try and then read the back story. It's frigging hilarious. Written and produced by an Italian crew armed with nothing more than an Italian-English dictionary for translation and filmed in Utah. One of the "actors" was an escaped mental patient.

Some movies can be bad on purpose and end up being funny.  "Caveman" with Ringo Starr and Dennis Quaid is juvenile and looks like a bunch of guys from a college fraternity said "hey, let's make a movie this afternoon".  But it ends up being entertaining.

From my experience 99% of college fraternity based films earn a place in the "Terrible Movies Hall of Fame - Gross Behaviour Category". (Or are they of documentary level?)

Whereas, of course, the British "The Young Ones" TV series was an example of excellent humour . . .

Agreed Ecurb. Caveman was actually brilliant. As was the original Airplane. Movies that are designed to be dumb, can be intelligently written.

Then of course are the movies that you are sure a going to be absolutely terrible and turn out to be quite excellent.  for me, Shaun of the Dead was in this category.

The Darkest Minds (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4073790/).

As far as teen movies go, this was definitely one of the worst. Highly derivative (X-men, anyone?), boring enough to keep you thinking 'OMG is this movie ever going to end?!' and a waste of your time and money.

If you haven't already subjected yourself to this dystopian crap, steer clear.

Quite right. Admittedly I watched Shean of the Dead with very low expectations so it came out well. But because of that I thought Hot Fuzz would be good and it turned out mediocre at best so ended up in the bad film bin.

At first, it was interesting but as you watch the film you will be bored and find it funny.

Yes Tank, "Mother" is a sickening repulsive film.
I also go along with No One's list of bad actors. Superheroes. . Yuck!!! They cause more damage and destruction than the bad guys! Just comic book crap! Disaster movies are just as silly, and you will notice in every one that the main character is estranged from his wife and kids and his wife's new partner is always an arsehole!

I'd like to add the following to the list of bad actors.
Val Kilmer
John Cusack
Steven Seagal
Owen Wilson
Ben Affleck
Nicolas Cage
And Roger Moor was never any good as James Bond.

I do like westerns and one (in my opinion) not to miss is "Lonely are The Brave" with Kirk Douglas.

You lived in KL? I was planning to visit my long-distance Malaysian boyfriend there some years ago. We saw each other regularly anyway, because he was a flight attendant on Air Malaysia. But then, as one does, I got involved with someone new, so never went there. I really would have liked to visit the Petronas Towers, though.

my family hates it because they say it's morbid, but to me it's a magnificent dream sequence made into a motion picture using a technology already obsolete at the same time as it was a triumph of the art

I had no expectations and thus loved it.

Had you seen the stage show?

Martin Lawrence is about as funny as losing both balls to testicular cancer, then coming home to find your family has been slaughtered.

I was expecting something else, maybe coming home to find Nigella cooking a romantic meal.
Coming home to find your family slaughtered would be pretty bad too I suppose.

I'd be pretty happy coming home to find Nigella cooking any damn thing she likes! :D

That preview was awful. I can't imagine watching the movie itself. I'd need a few beers in me I think to not care.

What in the actual fuck was that? I don't watch a lot of movies (the last one my wife and I went to was some schlock about the early space program, and bedamned if I remember the name).

i hate to admit i know about this stuff, but its an example of 1980s drive-in movie sexploitation films. lots of pretty girls, a thin plot to get them into skimpy clothing, and then some baudy scenes to make the teenagers laugh.

my ex sort of  brother in law wrote the screenplay for this one

their redeeming quality is thar they mostly dont take themselves seriously, so they misz that special category of film that is really really bad without trying to be

I just had my nurse practitioner prescribe some pain pills. After I get high on them I might watch this otherwise I don't think I could take it.

the scene where the frog lady drags the silks around was suppozed to be a mating scene. but tge director could figure the screenplay out so he just told the actress go get some cloth and wave it instead

same brother in law wrote the novelization version of schwarzenegfar's terminator 2 screenplay

I went and saw The Marvels for some reason. I fully understand why it's taking a box office death dive. A sad cat lady movie, poorly disguised as a superhero flick. No character development to speak of, wooden cast in wooden roles with a couple of exceptions who fail to save the film, "no" redeeming qualities... Yeah. Avoid.
