The original thread got lost in the great forum implode of 2015.
I know Buddy arrives 21st November but what is the plan? Just trying to arrange getting to Leeds, staying somewhere etc?
What was the itinerary?
We hadn't really got one. So here we go.
Saturday. Stick local and do Temple Newsam during the day and Leeds in the afternoon/evening as we could do the Royal Armouries and then the German Beer keller..
Sunday. Suggestions
Monday. York museums and sight seeing
Tuesday. Suggestions.
Oops! Accidentally booked train and hotel...
Would really like to see Temple Newsam but I think I might miss you guys if you're going in the morning. However, I shall go alone if necessary and catch up with you over a stein or five...
Anyone ever been to BrewDog??? (that's a query, not a suggestion)

Yup quite a few Manchester, Shoreditch, Leeds, and Sheffield always good with a slightly older crowd and less pretentious than the usual craft beer bars/pubs.

Arrive Saturday 12:24pm
Leave Sunday 12:12pm
Not sure if I'd need it but I got a PlusBus pass for both days just in case.
Staying at the Colton... in a double just in case I get lucky. Dag?... Crow?... Mrs Git?...
Bouncing in via Manchester on the 20th. Will seek shelter at the Tank residence.
Totally up for Aromuries and Bierkellers.
Beer and cannons? Killer combo. 8)
Bouncing back out the same way I came in on the 25th.
Crow and Git, you guys coming out to play?
Sadly I can't make it. A great pity.

Would it make a difference if I told you DJ is gonna make a surprise appearance in her belly-dancing outfit?

I'm not sure. I'm pretty much on call with what I have been working on for the last few month between the 14th and the 5th. However I pop over to Leeds all the time at a moments notice for drinks so that is no big issue if I am free.
Oh yeah Guardian if you want information on the easiest and cheapest way to get to Leeds from Manchester airport let me know and I point you in the right directions.

Afraid not. Buddy and G85 would be quite enough to entice me, if I were able to make it. Mind you, I'd love to meet DJ.

We were hoping to keep it a secret until you arrived in the UK.
These next two weeks are going to go by really slow, I can feel it. Can it be the 20th already?
I was wondering how you were feeling after all this time.
This place looks interesting. Has anyone been there?

I'm at that stage of excitement where sleep is pretty much impossible. It's just now starting to sink in that holy crap I'm actually flying to another country by myself for the first time. Really hope I don't screw something up and get stranded in some airport in another country.
chin up it's not very difficult :) I traveled from greece to germany alone when I was 20 and everything was fine (considering what a screwpu I am ) :P
The booze is waiting!
And so is Dag
I spy a Katie in that picture. Hopefully Dag doesn't die from allergies before I get there!

Good thing Tank brought booze because I need a drink or three
My flight from Toronto was almost an hour late and the security guy at Heathrow was being a major dick so I had to sprint to my gate and made it right as they were closing
Well, Meg got here safe and sound. So did Siz.

5:35 and just got in to bed.
They broke me.
Wow, what a total hoot!
Perfect food choice (Korean) with some fizz. Some disappointingly dreary, yet nonetheless alcoholic beer. Then an hilariously obscene card game (that shall definitely be seeing some airtime over the Xmas period at my home (what was it called, Tank?)) at Tank's place with a head-pounding cocktail of beverages until the not-so-wee hours.
Oh, yeah, there was some cultural stuff earlier on too.
Many thanks, Guardian, Buddy and Mrs Tank. And a special thanks to Tank for being a perfect host. Sorry noone else could make it.
Making my way home by train now and chuckling to myself as snippets of comedy utterances pop back to mind.
Hope you enjoy the rest of your stay Bud and G85. Until next year...

You forgot the amazing bowling.
The card game is Cards Against Humanity
It was really great meeting you Siz, hopefully we can do it again sometime!
You too, Bud. T'was a rare treat. How long is your stopover at Heathrow on your way home?
Ah, yes, bowling (with beer and sambuca) - normally I'd play to win, but it just didn't seem right... ;)

Two and a half hours. It will probably take the whole time to get through security

It was great fun. Great fun indeed. The only blot on the landscape being the fact that Claire couldn't make it.
Sounds like you all had a great time. Dead envious. I think June next year was mentioned as a possibility?

Yes. Bluenose is coming upside next year!
Friday.
Dag arrives.
We drink.
Saturday.
Dag and I go to Temple Newsam house and get a personalised tour! Very interesting.
Siz arrives at 12:30 Dag and I collect him from the station and then go to the Royal Armouries for a couple of hours.
Dag on left Siz on right
Holding a real sword at an enactment.
The start of a theme.
Buddy leaves from Chicago
Buddy arrives over London.
Dag, Siz and I collect Buddy from Leeds Bradford airport.
Home and then off into Leeds.
Dinner at a Korean BBQ restaurant.
Across the road to the bowling ally. Where Siz foolishly asserted his skill prior to playing the American.
Then back across the road to Witherspoons where some alcohol was consumed. Decided to go home anb continue alcohol consumption. Than played Cards against Humanity. Much was learned and much laughter was had. At 5:30 Siz headed off. He was very, very merry!!
Sunday.
Woke up. Limited pain! Result!!!
Lazed around. Siz went home :(
In the afternoon Dag, Buddy and I went to Kirkstall Abbey and the Abbey museum.
The Abbey ruins.
Another old ruin (on the left)
Dag 'Doing guarding'
In the dress up area of the museum.
The theme continues.
Inside the museum, which has a Victorian themed street.
Another hat with a Dag under it.
Chilling at The Fox and Newt.
When did we go out for dinner?
Monday off to York by train.
First place the railway museum.
Meg and Dag
Meg and Dag and a huge locomotive.
A train on a rotating turntable.
Me 'mansplaining' to Buddy. She's an incredibly good listener!
Meg and Dag standing in front of the Mallard the fastest steam train ever built.
Then on to The Maltings a very fine 'Free House' (it can sell any beer it likes) just south of the river Oose.
Went into York Minster. They wanted £10 each to look around. F**k that thought the atheists ;D
A lot of Awwwww! With a stuffed bear next to her.
Then onto the Jorvic centre in central York where Dag was right at home.
Dag in the gift shop at the Jorvic centre.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
Around the German market in York
It started raining then so we came home.
Sunday we went to RAF Elvington.
Nimrod
Hurricane at sunset.
Buddy and I
Dag with the hat he bought in York. You can make your own mind up about that.
Then we came home, collected my wife and went out to a vary nice Chinese restaurant that only tried to kill Dag 4 times (he's allergic to shellfish).
Final bit of evening and then bed.
This morning took Meg to airport and Dag to station.
I haz sadz :sad sigh:
But was a great weekend with lovely people (surprisingly enough even Siz!).
I will add more photos as they come to light.
Oh! And if you apply light to a sleeping Dag he sounds like a small startled chicken!
Interesting fact. The manageress at the Korean restaurant was blind. Well we assume she was blind. She told Siz he looked like George Cloony. We only just managed to squeeze his ego out of the door!
Dag and Meg are partly responsible for global warming. Neither of them can turn a light out when they leave a room.

Tank is Heisenberg!
The resemblance has been noted.
Thanks for posting all those photos, Tank. It looks like you all had a very nice time.

Just touched down in Montreal. Almost home.
Guess who almost wasn't allowed to go to America?
(I'll give you a hint, the answer is me.)
Fucking boarding pass did not work then there was something wrong with my passport where it wouldn't scan and security thought it was fake. Needless to say it was a little nerve wracking. Everything is all fixed now and I am waiting to board the plane to Chicago.
I think you've had more immigration grief in this one trip than I have had in my entire travelling life!
Wonderful travelog, Tank! Really enjoyed it.

Great photos. Thanks for the good reporting. Sounds like everyone had fun.
Tank, I just, today, found your message on my phone from the morning-that-must-never-be-remembered - inviting me for breakfast. Thanks for the invite. Not sure what time that was but I do know I'd not have made it through breakfast in seemly fashion! I nursed a McDonalds coffee en-route home for a good hour before finding the strength to try solids... Hope y'all enjoyed your McMuffins!
Oh, and BTW, we played Cards Against Humanity this weekend at our dinner party - a hit, of course!

I know I did breakfast one day. Sunday was a lazy day when we went to Kirkstall Abbey and Museum.
The Jorvic centre has flooded.
York's Jorvik Viking Centre closed as Storm Frank approaches (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-35192361)
Oh shit.
Seeing the flooding in York on the news the other day i imagined the Jorvik center would be fairly fucked in a flood.
Sad to see my prophetic skills remain as strong as ever.
