Title: Buddy in England
Post by: Claireliontamer on October 27, 2015, 08:15:26 AM
The original thread got lost in the great forum implode of 2015.

I know Buddy arrives 21st November but what is the plan?  Just trying to arrange getting to Leeds, staying somewhere etc?

What was the itinerary?

We hadn't really got one. So here we go.
Saturday. Stick local and do Temple Newsam during the day and Leeds in the afternoon/evening as we could do the Royal Armouries and then the German Beer keller..
Sunday. Suggestions
Monday. York museums and sight seeing
Tuesday. Suggestions.

Oops! Accidentally booked train and hotel...

Would really like to see Temple Newsam but I think I might miss you guys if you're going in the morning. However, I shall go alone if necessary and catch up with you over a stein or five...

Anyone ever been to BrewDog??? (that's a query, not a suggestion)

Yup quite a few Manchester, Shoreditch, Leeds, and Sheffield always good with a slightly older crowd and less pretentious than the usual craft beer bars/pubs.

Bouncing in via Manchester on the 20th. Will seek shelter at the Tank residence.

Totally up for Aromuries and Bierkellers.
Beer and cannons? Killer combo. 8)

Bouncing back out the same way I came in on the 25th.

Indeed!

Would it make a difference if I told you DJ is gonna make a surprise appearance in her belly-dancing outfit?

I'm not sure. I'm pretty much on call with what I have been working on for the last few month between the 14th and the 5th. However I pop over to Leeds all the time at a moments notice for drinks so that is no big issue if I am free.

Oh yeah Guardian if you want information on the easiest and cheapest way to get to Leeds from Manchester airport let me know and I point you in the right directions.

Afraid not.  Buddy and G85 would be quite enough to entice me, if I were able to make it.  Mind you, I'd love to meet DJ.

I'm at that stage of excitement where sleep is pretty much impossible. It's just now starting to sink in that holy crap I'm actually flying to another country by myself for the first time. Really hope I don't screw something up and get stranded in some airport in another country.

Wow, what a total hoot!

Perfect food choice (Korean) with some fizz. Some disappointingly dreary, yet nonetheless alcoholic beer. Then an hilariously obscene card game (that shall definitely be seeing some airtime over the Xmas period at my home (what was it called, Tank?)) at Tank's place with a head-pounding cocktail of beverages until the not-so-wee hours.
Oh, yeah, there was some cultural stuff earlier on too.

Many thanks, Guardian, Buddy and Mrs Tank. And a special thanks to Tank for being a perfect host. Sorry noone else could make it.

Making my way home by train now and chuckling to myself as snippets of comedy utterances pop back to mind.

Hope you enjoy the rest of your stay Bud and G85. Until next year...

Ah, yes, bowling (with beer and sambuca) - normally I'd play to win, but it just didn't seem right... ;)

Then we came home, collected my wife and went out to a vary nice Chinese restaurant that only tried to kill Dag 4 times (he's allergic to shellfish).

Final bit of evening and then bed.

This morning took Meg to airport and Dag to station.

I haz sadz  :sad sigh:

But was a great weekend with lovely people (surprisingly enough even Siz!).

I will add more photos as they come to light.

Interesting fact. The manageress at the Korean restaurant was blind. Well we assume she was blind. She told Siz he looked like George Cloony. We only just managed to squeeze his ego out of the door!

Dag and Meg are partly responsible for global warming. Neither of them can turn a light out when they leave a room.

Guess who almost wasn't allowed to go to America?

(I'll give you a hint, the answer is me.)

Fucking boarding pass did not work then there was something wrong with my passport where it wouldn't scan and security thought it was fake. Needless to say it was a little nerve wracking. Everything is all fixed now and I am waiting to board the plane to Chicago.

Wonderful travelog, Tank!  Really enjoyed it.

Oh, and I have no idea what future application this could have, but I'm storing it away:

It was the noise that the door makes, not the light.

And I do not sound like a chicken!  >:(

Tank, I just, today, found your message on my phone from the morning-that-must-never-be-remembered - inviting me for breakfast. Thanks for the invite. Not sure what time that was but I do know I'd not have made it through breakfast in seemly fashion! I nursed a McDonalds coffee en-route home for a good hour before finding the strength to try solids... Hope y'all enjoyed your McMuffins!

Oh, and BTW, we played Cards Against Humanity this weekend at our dinner party - a hit, of course!

We ended up not going to McDonald's either. Ended up having breakfast curtesy of Mrs. Tank that morning I think. Details are a little fuzzy.

I know I did breakfast one day. Sunday was a lazy day when we went to Kirkstall Abbey and Museum.

Seeing the flooding in York on the news the other day i imagined the Jorvik center would be fairly fucked in a flood.

Sad to see my prophetic skills remain as strong as ever.
