It's a sort of evolved culture driven by the unique creative talents of the members allowed to run riot  ;D

Feel free to add your unique flavour to the continuum!

Actually your question raises a more important issue. That is how does one join in with an established group, in this case a forum? It's difficult, it really is. And you know I don't have a 'sound bite' answer. One attribute of people who succeed here is to be those willing to be open and honest. I'm sure there are others.

When the conversations  get deep, they're a gentle reminder that we need to take the time to eat :)

I think being friendly is good. Being civil helps. Realising that people aren't always perfect helps to.

"What's with all the cutlery?"

I gave newcomers a complementary stainless steel knife for a while.  It was just an extension of the perennial steak knife joke.  No one adopted one as a signature picture.

Some time later xSilverPhinx reached 2,000 posts and I gave her the first gold knife.  She started using it as a signature pic and the cutlery infestation took hold.

I think those memorabilia spoons are kind of quaint, I've got a Kangaroo Valley one.  For a while I was a volunteer guide at an Historic site.  They had souvenir spoons and my ambition was to sell one.  I created a full screen animation of a stirring spoon.  Bin Laden and a few local politicians would fade in and out as reflections in the spoon.  With the help of the animation my ambition to sell a spoon was achieved and my motivation to guide withered as the weekends grew warmer.

I'm not sure if the word "stirrer" is used elsewhere as it is here.  It can be a serious thing or merely a tease.

So the future holds forks and corkscrews, sounds interesting.

Spoons - because we stir up shit  ;D
Knives - because we cut through bad arguments.
Forks - because we eat up the camaraderie here.
Corkscrews - because we like winers, but not whiners.

See? It works!

Oh yes. Though, as far as I'm concerned, the only bad kind of ice cream is grape-nut.
Edit: Apparently this is just a Nova Scotian/New England thing, but trust me. It's gross.

I've been to a restaurant called Garlic's before, where most of their dishes were served featuring garlic. Including the ice cream. I tried a bite of someone's, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The garlic was sweeter, somehow. But it was just an odd taste to have in ice cream.

Speaking of pasta - the Holy Food - that must be nearly as hard to eat with a spoon as it is with chopsticks.

We occasionally have whacky, fun nights at our house with family and friends. One time, we had an "eat everything with a spoon" night. I served spaghetti. The children who were in the house took great delight in saying "whoops!" as their spaghetti slipped and slid everywhere but into their mouths.  :D

Someone was talking about sporks recently, not sure what thread.
The expressed some fear, were concerned about the damage it could do.
Splades would probably give them nightmares.
They have a cutting edge, they are cutting edge.

The point of having multi use cutlery is blunted because two individual utensils working together is often more effective.

Ye sorry I did say "blunted" but I can't guarantee I won't do it again.
