I don't know. Perhaps the hapless waif stuff Radical Face does so well.
Chi Mai by Ennio Morricone comes to mind, but it's more of the latter and has some "light" to its "darkness" besides.
Seger's Famous Final Scene may be one.
In light of the above discussion, it may be worth mentioning that I'm not saddened by music I consider bad - I just avoid listening to it if at all possible. I consider every one of the above songs/melodies
good.
