We have a "What's on your mind today" thread, but sometimes something's not just on your mind... you're obsessed with it!
So, what's your obsession today, or this week? A television show? A book? A certain brand of coffee? A radio station? A blog you just found? Your new camera? Finishing a pond? (
Tell us what it is, maybe even provide a link or a picture or a video. Share!
This place has been my obsession lately. I've really enjoyed getting to know the members here and reading the debates.

Ditto. I've spent more time online recently than I have in a long time. I'm also a little obsessed with playing with my (fairly) new dual layer DVD burner.
richarddawkins.net is another current obsession of mine. Hehe.
Myself (hey, I'm an actor...)
I've been following several forums on video games due out later this year.
It's kind of like waiting for your movie to be reviewed.
Really it's been fascinating to see how much people are into individual video games.
In-depth knowledge, speculation, character side stories, etc.
Seems like that's an obsession for a lot of folks.
Rambling mood,
JoeActor

That may change soon though, I beginning to FINALLY get my life back.

Hey, at least you own up to it!
I just realized that I've had the same album on repeat for three days at my desk at work. Guess that qualifies as an obsession, right?
World's End Girlfriend (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World%27s_End_Girlfriend) -
The Lie Lay Land(https://www.happyatheistforum.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg152.imageshack.us%2Fimg152%2F779%2F11414919538dj.jpg&hash=90f24c98fc9affaf004c62ae42a580ab3871daaf)
For some reason I'm really into this band. I love Japanese experimental rock (it's a whole lot better than it sounds like it would be, haha), like
Mono (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mono_(Japanese_band)).
World's End Girlfriend actually hooked up with them for an album called
Palmless Prayer / Mass Murder Refrain. You can listen to some of
World's End Girlfriend here (http://www.last.fm/music/World%27s+End+Girlfriend) and even get a taste of the
Mono/WEG collaboration here (http://www.amazon.com/Palmless-Prayer-Mass-Murder-Refrain/dp/B000H7ZZT2/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1215713113&sr=8-1).
Long story short: remember old
Pink Floyd music like
Echoes and the stuff from
Ummagumma and
Saucerful of Secrets? Then this should bring back a lot of memories. Absolutely astounding stuff.
Mine's definitely sybaritic.

"Religiously?"
We did the same thing two years ago after my lady-friend moved in and have never regretted getting rid of that carpet. There's something about a hardwood floor that makes it seem more like a home, especially with the fireplace in the winter.
Now we're installing knotty pine paneling in several of the rooms. That is, after we finish stripping off the paint, sanding the wood down, and revarnishing it. It was used and some fool painted over the panel.
Good luck with your endeavors.

Quote from: "rlrose328"I had a Mac (iMac, the boxy one that was teal green/blue when it came out?) back in 1998 when I got a job at a place that was all Mac. I bought one so I could learn it at home and be proficient at work. I HATED THAT MACHINE! It crashed once a week, necessitating big-time messing to get it to work. I had it worked on and contacted Apple about it, and they made it seem like it was MY fault somehow. I turned it on... it froze... I rebooted... everything gone.
I'm a PC user, through and through. I know my way around it, can go behind the scenes to fix things... I have total control. ;) Glad your proud of your PC. I know a lot of people that hate it but have no choice.

Elitist Snob or Corporate Tool...
Ok, so I'm a Corporate Tool, with Elitist Snob leanings.

p.s. my wife wants the "Air", but none of her stuff will run on it...
I'm very utilitarian when it comes to my computers. I work with both macs and PC's, and I have to say at this point I prefer PC's. PC's are easier to troubleshoot, although their customer service is horrible. Mac customer service is a (little) better, maybe on a good day. Macs don't have a registry, so it's harder to uninstall something that may be causing a problem, like ITunes. I always have to laugh when itunes fails on a mac. It's like, wow. Plus, macs aren't as user friendly if you like to build your own computer to customize it how you like. You can build your own Mac, but Steve Jobs will find you and kill you if you do. Most 'do it yourself' Mac projects have pc or intel components. Like this project : http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=274 (http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=274)
I like the guys quote when he says "...it’s interesting to think that the days of the do-it-yourself Mac may be just around the corner."
Quote from: "joeactor"How'd this turn into a PC vs. Mac thread?
I was actually thinking of starting one... hehe...
I never liked the Mac until the more recent models came out. Before that I really disliked their design (plain ugly) and their huge price tags.
But to go back to the original question. My obsession this week where twofold: 1. playing late night chess on the internet and 2. the new release of my open source software. As punishment, I'm now suffering from sleep depreviation and a dislike for anything that has to do with a computers (whether it is a PC or Mac). So I wish you all very good night, morning or afternoon, depending on which side of the globe you are on.
I'm generally obsessed with computer stuff all the time, for work and for play. I use Microsoft Windows, Linux, and Mac OSX just about every day. I do spend most of my time at home on my MacBook. Once Apple switched to the UNIX-based Mac OSX, it has been very stable, like Linux with a more polished interface.
My other growing obsession is my possible 3 week trip through Europe this Fall, still in the planning stages. I just went through the passport application process today. I have never been out of the US on a trip which required a passport. I did go on a short excursion to Canada and to Tiajauna but those don't really count as foreign travel. Sometimes it feels exciting to go to Europe, and sometimes it feel scary since my world is so US-centric. The language and cultural challenges are scary, and being so far from home is scary, but it can also be a mind opening experience, if I go.
I've spent most of the week listening to Richard Dawkins " The God Delusion " ," The Ancestor's Tale" and am starting on " River Out Of Eden".I wish I had more time to read but lately things have been crazy. So I have the audiobooks. The best thing about the audio is that they are read by Mr.Dawkins himself. And I can listen while I get much needed things done.My other obessions at the moment landscaping (getting ready to put out some fruit trees),finding a book about evolution for an 8 yr old, birdwatching which has been a love since I was a wee one and finishing my bedroom curtains.

Hey guys and gals, my current obsession is geeky (but true none-the-less): Microsoft Flight Simulator. I've been a fan of the series ever since way back, and a few weeks ago I bought myself a new PC (Dell XPS, I wanted some horsepower and didn't want to build my own). Having the new wheels, I've rekindled my Flight Sim interest, and have just purchased FSX. Should have it up and going tonight, in fact.
What can I say? I'm a geek, and I love airplanes and everything to do with aviation.
Of course, my beer obsession is never far behind in whatever my current obsession is. Right now I've got a homebrewed dunkelweizen on tap which is proving to be quite tasty!
Mine's pretty geeky too. I've been having waaaaay too much fun watching waaaaaay too much Harry Potter and drinking waaaaaay too much beer whilst doing so. Pray for me, atheists.

I'm not a fan of Harry potter, but I watch the movies mostly because I love legendary creatures. Griffins and dragons are my favourites (my room is full of figurines of those)

My current obsession is modcloth. (http://www.modcloth.com/) I'm freakin' obsessed with this online store. And they're evil, because they totally encourage OCD web-checking. They release a bunch of new items every day, but do they release them all at once? Ohhh, nooo, they trickle them out. Bit by bit. So you become obsessed and constantly go back to see what the newest item is. And they only carry a limited number of items, so everything sells out pretty quickly. They're evil, evil, I tells ya.

The nice thing is that since they are second hand you can find some really good deals, and since the sellers set the prices, you can bargain with them, and also set up trades. Also, if you sell your own clothes, you can use the credits from that to buy new clothes without having to pay out cash. I like that name better than the one we have here in Brazil for second-hand book stores: "sebos" which is the waxy oil your skin produces. I'm guessing they named it that because the books they sell supposibly have finger oil all over their pages.
I used to search the charity shops (as we call them) for books. But now I have a Kindle, my obsession is hunting on the net for free e-books.
We call them thrift stores.

OldGit, I assume you are familier with the Guttenburg Project? http://www.gutenberg.org/
I haven't bought a book yet for my kindle. Plus, reading lots of the stuff I "always meant to".

Yes, thank you. There are dozens of sites, mainly for epubs. You can convert most file types with Calibre. (http://calibre-ebook.com/)
