As an aside, where was the picture taken? We did something similar but used pea gravel between the flagstones, on our parkway. (parkway=the city-owned portion of a property's frontage, which usually has buried utilities, and is also usually maintained by the home owner, for esthetic concerns).
I bet the cat would like this.
