You didn't like it because you took it personally, even though it was directed at your argument and not you. If it were in response to anyone else, you would've at least chuckled. Here it is again, to prove my point.

Quote from: "maestroanth"How can you simply say there is nothing outside our 5 senses?

Failing in 5... 4... 3... 2...

No atheist with more than four working brain cells would ever make that claim. Here's three things, just off the top of my head, that are outside our five senses: neutrinos, x-rays, God. Sing it with me, everybody!

One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn't belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
By the time I finish my song?

Also, congrats to obviously diving in with both feet, but you are not the HAF police. Leave that to the admin and mods, and try to join the community before you start critiquing those of us who have been here for some time.

QuoteHey all, if we suppose to be better than Christians/etc., we need to be dignified that way.

The thing is, I don't see myself as being "better" than Christians.  I have a different view on the world that I think is a lot more compatible with reality and science, true, but as far as this "better" stuff goes, I don't see it that way.  I do think there are religions out there that say they are "better" than others just based on their label, and that's just false, and if we start doing the same it's a problem not a benefit.  It's this whole perception of ranking humans that gets me.  All in all, we are quite genetically similar, we all have emotions, we all make mistakes, we all have egos to keep in check.

I don't know what you are specifically referring to here, but realize I'm not trying to argue any points on that, but just trying to make the clarification that "better" is a very subjective concept.  I might differ from others on the whole "better" concept, but I have to separate the worldview from the person.  Atheism is a more realistic worldview if one wants to understand the nature of reality and science, but an atheist is not a "better" person than a Christian or vice versa.  No matter how anyone acts, a label is still just a label.  Granted we are sometimes going to be judged by our labels, by the company we keep and so on and so forth, but an intelligent person quickly learns to disregard these things and judge people slowly, based on their actions, if they even judge them at all.

I personally find striving to be dignified all the time leads to a desperate quality of boringness and lack of life and big ego issues.  I think acting ethically and within the law is enough and people should be free to be themselves.

sDisagreements are not flaming. Everyone having differing opinion is not flaming. Curio's somewhat agresive sense of humor is not flaming.

An example of flaming would be "You are a stupid mother fucker, no one likes you we don't want to hear your stupid inbred crap. I think you should do us all a favor and kill yourself"
Or somewhere along those lines.

This is one of the most flame free forums I've ever been to. Flammers regardles of how long they have been membrs are banned. I not sure what you think flamming is but I believe you are mistaken.

Tanker, you have killed me again with your humor...LOL! I know people who do talk like this......and worse....LOL! If someone said that to me...I think I would laugh......I don't speak like this, so don't worry....but it is amusing to hear sometimes......nonetheless.....That would be coming from someone definitely NOT trying to manipulate someone else...LOL!

It wasn't a joke it was an honest example. I was NOT trying to be cute, underhanded or sly by phraseing it that way. If I wanted to say such things to you I would, but not as aggresively. You seem to be a bit overly  sensitive. Disagreements are NOT personal attacks, Curio's off handed sense of humor is not personal, Curio does the same thing to me and everyone else.

If you start belive every shadow could hide a danger pretty soon you will see dangers in every shadow. Forums are supposed to be places of free conversation and discourse not mutual back patting and congradulations. Just because someone disagrees with you does not mean it's personal, all it means is they disagree with.

I know it ca be hard to glean someone's emotions from their writing, especially if like me they refuse to use smilies or emoticons. So I usually assume a possitive attitude from them and I'm usually right.

Quote from: "maestroanth"Sense of humor is charismatic.  There's no charisma in the sense of humor you describe.

Ever watch House?

QuoteCHASE: That's funny.
CAMERON: It's not funny. It's totally immature.
CHASE: [amused] It is funny. You just can't appreciate it because you're the victim.

This forum centers around a derisive topic. Just like any other "hot button" theme, it can get a little too serious around here. Atheists and theists alike can take themselves entirely too seriously. I just try to stem that. Someone says something I find worthy of a little jab, they get jabbed regardless of who or what they are. I expect the same back, and actually enjoy it if someone calls me out for doing something stupid.

After all, isn't that the goal: to prevent stupid?

If Curio flamed anyone, and I saw it, I would absolutely say something. I don't think his sense of humor counts as flaming. In fact, I rather appreciate it. And the lovely GIFs he uses.  :D

No personal attacks (you must be stupid, you must have a pea-sized brain, etc.  Likewise no sarcasm to newcomers as in what I personally saw, "Failure in 5...4....3...2"; it's not funny).  Don't attack the person, attack what they are saying.

All best.
Oh don't be such a fuddy duddy. If HAF has to bowdlerize Curio I'll protest  :)

Quote from: "maestroanth"I thoroughly read this, and you are, sir,  intellectually deprived. (I think that's the nice way of saying retard without of a strike 3, lol).

Due credit is #3 (lol) in your point.  And (Yes, I like to toy with people), you read a dawkin site or book.

But Dawkins is retarded too.  I only see two logical beliefs (Dawkins is a shabby philosopher); there was no uncaused cause is my atheist conclusion; time is infinite. Or a Deist supernatural thing; that started this catastrophe we call "life".  = me? my belief? plain and simple agnostic.

FAIL.
