Title: Dreams
Post by: Randy on May 20, 2020, 07:09:24 PM
I didn't know where to put this so if I've erred then please excuse me and put it in the right place.

This is about dreams one has at night. Are there any that stick out in one's mind?

For the moment I can't think of any but I can say that a lot of my dreams lately have had something to do with Christmas and I don't know why. I haven't watched any holiday specials or a series with a holiday scene in it. Dreams can be weird and usually are. I wish I could remember one in detail to post but too much time has past. All I remember are brightly colored gifts, a tree with decorations, and a rather large toy train.

I posted the above a little while ago. I just woke up from a nap.

I dreamed of Thanksgiving with roasted chicken instead of turkey. Most of the chicken was based with hot sauce although there was one that was based with barbecue sauce.

I dreamed that there was a lot of family there and we had rearranged the furniture. They stayed with us a few days. Also I dreamed that I slept through some of the festivities through short naps. I also helped clean up afterward and had cheesecake for dessert.

There are lots of little things such as what era I would have liked to have lived in, my brother being a toddler, and drinking Sprite. Oh yeah, something to do with cats and my ex-sister-in-law. She wanted to catch them and give them a home. Apparently we had a lot of wild ones running around including ours which we named "Cat".

My dreams are usually this vivid although after a while I start to forget most of them. I think it might be due to one of the drugs I take. A side effect is unusual dreams although I don't know what that means. I've been taking it for well over a year, maybe two.

I heard somewhere that the things we see in our dreams are symbols. You just need to interpret their meaning.
~Not an easy thing to do.

I've heard that too although I think the jury is out on that. I don't know that there has been enough research into it. I think of dreams as garbage collection which is a term used in the programming field. Why the brain creates images and sounds while we are unconscious I haven't a clue.

I don't think they have any meaning although I am not well versed in the study of dreams. I just find them fascinating sometimes.

That's bizarre. Did you watch anything with tigers in it? I'm curious as to where they came from in your subconscious. And killed a predator on top of that. In your dream they must have been your pets.

no clue anout tigers. no recent history. i dpnt have a television set and seldom see a motion picture.

they werent as large as siberian tigers. more bengal like.

they were my tigers, coming with me somewhere, like guard dogz. as we walked down the path one leapt ahead and pulled a small felid out of the undergrowth, something like a lynx but smaller. it was the second of two such captures. as usual, thiz was juzt a short section i remember from a longer dream.

and i was not naked.

What were you eating the night before? I can't blame my dreams on food consumption unless the bags are full of anchovies.

I think I was in my underwear but my memory is vague now.

lol

nothing.

i dont eat anymore after about noon. losing weight.

down 10, ten more to go.

mozt of my dreams are prosaic, except for the onez where i kill myself. i dpnt know where dreams come from, or even how many sources contribute.

theres a few theories that dreamtime is when the brain is organizing memoriez, but i dont know much about it

I take it that when you killed yourself in your dreams that you didn't die in real life. Well, that shoots that hypothesis down.

I awoke from another nap over an hour ago. I should have posted immediately while the dream was still fresh in my mind.

I dreamed that I had a large family which I don't. There are very few of us left. Anyway, one of my uncles had something called a section "G" from court. Apparently he had to do the court a favor because he lied to the judge during his trial. A trial for what I don't know. I can speculate but I don't know.

It was time to leave, it was a long drive back to where we were from. Apparently it was just me and some woman with dark hair in a ponytail. We had a motorcycle with two seats and what we did with our luggage I haven't a clue.

What gets me is that I keep dreaming about a huge family that I don't have.

what kind of motorcycle waz it?
Title: Re: Dreams
Post by: Randy on May 24, 2020, 01:20:43 AM
It was weird. I don't think anything like it exists. I'm not a motorcycle person.

But it was red, kind of dirty, with black seats and chrome handle bars. It sat rather low to the ground too and took two people to drive it. It's not something that anyone would want in the waking world.

There is a drug I take called Compazine or Prochlorperazine which has a side effect of "strange dreams". I wondered when a dream wasn't strange. Mine do tend to get vivid and it takes me a moment of waking up before I realize where I am and who I live with.

I had a nap a few hours ago and can barely remember any of the dream. But there was Kentucky Fried Chicken involved! I got to eat some as leftovers. It took me a moment to realize that all my food goes through a tube into my stomach. So no chicken. :(

Yeah, I have strange dreams sometimes, but if I leave the mushrooms off the pizza or my steak, they don't happen. I can't imagine what it's like with poison mushrooms (i.e., psylocybin). The only other times I've had strange dreams were when I was sick with a fever. Those dreams haven't happened in a long time.

I was this long-legged pale dog who ran frantically towards a run-down abandoned hangar in the middle of a ghost town to attend a rally of "The Resistance", a political group in opposition to the current quasi-fascist government. There was a strong sense of urgency as we all left the hangar to fight for our liberty and rights. I was a dog.

...Yeah. :deadpan:

Then all of a sudden I was a a princess living in a wooden cabin in the woods with a small group of people. :wtf: They were telling me what I should be doing and all their demands were driving me nuts. I forced myself t wake up.

I decided that was enough dreaming and went to wash the dishes at 6 in the morning.  :P

Okay Silver no more mushrooms for you either.

I woke up from a two hour nap. I had just gotten home from chemotherapy and I hadn't slept much last night so I crashed. I had a dream but now I can't remember any of it.

Maybe you can write a quasi-military fairy-tale from yours. :)

  Sounds like the plot for a family-friendly movie.

I dreamed once that I had antlers.  Not that I was a deer, mind you, I was still just me but with a small pair of antlers growing out of my forehead.  Another time I dreamed that I was running swiftly and gracefully thru the forest on all fours -- still very much human.  It was fun.

I've been sleeping fitfully for a week now, not because of dreams, but more like visions or hallucinations of doing a big painting. The details of the subject matter are very clear in my mind and I even see the size: 2 m high by 3 m wide. I know what's going to happen: this is going to hound me until I am compelled do it. Is this a sign of mental disturbance, or inspiration, or both?

I have certain interests and obsessions, but I don't know about being artistic. I will resist as long as possible, but probably will not be able to avoid doing it in the end. It won't be wasted — my ceilings are 3.3 m high and there are at least two 6 m walls available .

I used the word hallucinations, because I couldn't think of a better one. It's more an urge to do something that is so strong that I can almost feel myself doing it. I also have a very strong visual imagination, so I can imagine the end result down to fine details of colour and composition. Yes, I have been an amateur painter and sculptor for many years and have sold quite a few pieces.

I know exactly what you're talking about! At least, I think I know.  ;D

A few months back I had a series of dreams where the urge to tattoo a small, curved fine-line fern leaf or a single feather just behind my right ear was so strong that I almost gave into the impulse. While dreaming it just made so much sense and felt so right...I was absolutely decided I was going to get it.

However, every time I woke up and the 'brain brakes' went online again, the impulse faded significantly. It was just an impulse -- a very strong urge -- to do something that probably isn't really a good idea. I thought it through and decided, probably not. It's probably not a good idea.

That was an urge for something that would have been permanent on my skin so I had to give it plenty of thought. Painting what you saw in your dream could be fun, if I were you I would give into the impulse and do it.

:secrets1: I like to call it: completely normal temporary dementia.

I could tell you a little more about what goes on in the brain while asleep that could cause these urges, but that would make it less mysterious.

Last night I dreamed I got on a plane and flew to New England. It's not a rare theme for my dreams, since I really want to move to New England. I'm scared of planes, though, and every dream with a plane is like "Everything's okay, I can fly" but then I wake up.

The weird thing about this dream was that I was only there for a short time. I wanted to go to another state in New England and hopped on a plane, that plane took me back to Oklahoma. Boo!

Thanks, I suspected you could provide a bit of insight, even if it isn't something I wanted to hear. Temporary dementia? It may be a bit more permanent — it survives into my waking hours, to the extent that I have started preliminary sketches and even measured some walls!

It may also just be a pathetic attention-grabbing stunt with no artistic merit.

But you're a cat! Cat's don't like water except to drink although I heard they like root beer too but I can't verify that.

I don't think I've ever had any dreams about being underwater. Usually I'm flying or at least floating in the air. I used to be pretty good at lucid dreaming but not anymore. I don't know why that is. But when I could, I'd realize that I was dreaming and would fly, assuming I could get over the impossibility of it all.

I have. The ability to fly in my dreams typically starts from a jumping motion and flying higher is propelled from my feet. It's weird how my dream self tries to rationalize it.

Anyway, last night's dream was a bit odd. I very commonly have dreams where I've missed a deadline in a college class. This one started out like that, but then got weird. I was in this classroom or something and was leaving, but it was really late, so it was dark outside and a bit creepy. Someone or something appeared and began chasing me around. Pretty sure the figure was a man, and he seems to have resembled a really bad man that was once in my life, but the dream didn't dwell on that detail.

Instead it turned a bit more supernatural feeling. Kind of like the jumping to fly motion I mentioned above, I was able to do something similar to jump over tall fences. I was in a neighborhood and so I was jumping over fences to peoples' yards to run away. Lol.

Considering it's physically impossible for me to run anymore, that's an interesting feeling in a dream.

Anyway, the figure was acting very supernatural itself, finding me everywhere I went, no matter how much it should not have been able to. The dream ended when I sheltered in a building that was library-like (but a room that didn't have books, like a conference room, hard to explain. I was not alone anymore, I was surrounded by people in this building, and they were aware of the figure and that it was dangerous, and were pushing tables and the like in front of doors and windows.

There was someone there I knew, but I've forgotten over the day who it was. Lol.

---

The most interesting dream I've had lately was a couple of nights or so ago, though. It was a time travel dream, where I went back into my own past, back around high school. I was separate from my teenage self.

I've never had a dream like that one before. It's something I've always envisioned - going to the past (usually my high school self) and warning her to take better care of herself. So it was very odd to get it played so straight in a dream.

I used to have time travel dreams a lot, usually in the distant past. One time I was a part of the resistance in WWII in France. I always seemed to have to help someone or a cause. That hasn't happened as of late.

I kind of understand about not being able to physically run anymore. I haven't tried as walking is sometimes strenuous enough. But in my dreams, oh I can run alright. I can jump too!

I used to be pretty good at lucid dreaming but not anymore. I don't know why that is.

I used to be able to do that too, back when I had a lot of nightmares.  I learned to turn them off or change them while still dreaming and eventually I stopped having nightmares, so no more lucid dreaming.

I didn't even know what I was doing had a name until after I'd been doing it for a while -- it just happened automatically.  Sometimes I wish I were still doing it so I could change a boring dream, but lucid dreaming no longer appears to be part of my subconscious skill set.  But considering how rarely I remember dreams anyway, it's not a big deal.

apparently the only parts that werent rubbish were what he got from the university library. he had some disciples that came to strange ends, one disappearing into the desert.

there are still a few people who claim to teach his methods who will let you attend their workshops for a huge outlay of money.

For a short while there, a few months ago maybe - perhaps longer, I would realize I was in a dream and make use of it. It's not something I consciously did, it was just something I became aware of. It hasn't happened lately. I could have used it in last night's dream.

I dreamed that my son was my brother.  :o

There is none. In the dream, he looked just like I remembered him although I think he had black hair which I do but his mother has blond. Oddly enough, he has brown hair in real life. I think he also had facial hair in the dream, also black.

I noticed something recurring in my dreams as of late. I keep dreaming that I'm a fast food worker. I woke up a couple of hours ago I guess and thought I was late for work. It was the Friday after Thanksgiving (in the USA) and I realized I was late by at least eight hours.

I seem to dream that I'm responsible for four restaurants in the cooking and keeping clean departments. I have only worked at Kentucky Fried Chicken as a teenager and no other fast food restaurants since. I also dream that I can afford a house and two new cars on my minimum wage salary.

Sorry to hear about your parents, Randy.  :(

In my dog's case, I feel a lot of guilt. We took too long to finally make the decision to euthanise her so she needlessly suffered in the end.

She gradually lost all motor function in her hind legs and control of her bowel movements and bladder. We don't know exactly what illness she had, because it would have cost us the equivalent of a thousand US dollars (at that time, around four years ago) to examine her spine and peripheral nerves. We didn't have that kind of money and since she was an old dog we decided to go with what the vet recommended and paid for few months of physiotherapy instead to try and see if that delayed or even reversed the gradual decline. It didn't really so we just tried to make her last few months as comfortable as possible, with painkillers and a children's mattress.

She hated that mattress.

Eventually when she started to refuse food we decided it was time to call the vet to put her out of her suffering.

I feel your pain Silver.

I sometimes dream of my Bernese Mountain dog Teddy.  I too waited too long to have him mercifully euthanised.  I still love him and miss him.  But that goes for several of my other companion dogs.  There was Sailor the Australian Shepard,  Radar Sam, another Aussie, and a few others that I loved so dearly.  I desperately want to believe in the rainbow bridge.

It must hurt to euthanize an animal that's sick and on it's last leg. I've never had to go through it but I can only imagine. Even when a dog is suffering it is still a loyal companion it seems. I imagine it is heartbreaking.

When I was a teenager we had a dog named Frisky. Frisky loved my brother and every time the door would open he'd run to see if it was him. One day he had a heart attack waiting by the door. It wasn't my brother. I don't remember who it was now. He was a mess, always afraid of the house cat. The cat was bigger. But he was a lovable pup. He came to everyone for attention.

I took a nap on Sunday I think. In it I dreamed that one of my fillings was tuned into an erotic country music talk show radio station that played nothing but commercials. It eventually came visible in the form where I was in a 1950's grade-B movie. Then it got steamy, then we'd break to a commercial advertising some strip club.

It was quite wild and vivid. I attribute it to all the medication I take during the day.

Let's see if I can bring up some images from what I remember. I don't remember the last few nights at all which is strange. Anyway, let's see if I can do what I started out to do.

I remember a green gift with a white ribbon and bow on a box. I remember one that was more red than pink but still pink with the same kind of ribbon and bow. These would be next to a tree that is lit.

Then there is a slide and what I think are elves running around though I don't recall seeing any. I felt like I was in Santa's workshop. I'm sure there was more to the dream but that picture is all I can remember now.

I've been having weird dreams lately (so what else is new? ;D).

First all I dreamt of were powerpoint slides, then last night I was on some quest with a young girl who was looking for her mother who had been kidnapped by a cult of evil witches. I remember having to feed chocolate to some double-headed monster in order to get past it, and crawl through some dungeon before finally reaching the little girl's mother who was sleeping in a large crib in the middle of a dark room. When we got there, the girl was elated to find her mother, but that didn't last because in some weird turn of events the girl's mother pushed her away and told me that the whole thing had been a plot by the cult of evil witches to capture me.

Then I woke up.

 Weird dream, huh?

Last night I had the strangest dream
I sailed away to China
In a little row boat to find ya
And you said you had to get your laundry cleaned
Didn't want no one to hold you What does that mean
And you said
Ain't nothin' gonna break-a my stride
Nobody gonna slow me down, oh no
I got to keep on movin'
Ain't nothin' gonna break-a my stride
I'm running and I won't touch ground
Oh no, I got to keep on movin'

Lat night I had a nightmare.  I was at home and learned that a a nuclear bomb threatened my whole area. It was to be detonated within the hour.   I made my peace with the powers that be...(no not Jesus or one of those others).  My ass is grass and I knew it.  Then I discovered that the bomb was not a nuke but a huge load of ordinary explosive material.....maybe the stuff that blew up Lebanon.  I knew that I must flee the area far enough to escape the destruction and death.  I ran across a huge corn field to escape.  I had a young fellow of 11 years old in tow. Where did that kid come from? I did not know him but he was an innocent kid that needed help.  He had become exhausted with the running and fell to the ground unable to run any more. I had a huge decision to make.  DO I try to carry him or do I leave him to die?  I knew that I could not carry him more than a few hundred yards before I to fell from exhaustion. Speed of flight was a matter of life or death for me.  FSM made a decision on my behalf and ended the dream before I had to make that decision.  Actually I woke earlier than usual because I had to get up to go pee. Thank you FSM.... or the too much liquid that I had consumed before bedtime.

Another plot for a scary movie?

Last night, toward the end of my dream, I was in a foreign country south of the UK. It was a third world type something like the Philippines. Anyway, I did not have my passport with me and I was trying my best to at least get to England although I don't know why when I remember telling people that I'm an American citizen.

I remember going to the place where one buys a ticket for transportation, I assume flight but I don't know. I wasn't allowed to buy one without a passport so I called up a passport agency. (I know, that doesn't make a whole lot of sense.) They told me they couldn't help me.

I also ended up finding that a soda from a vending machine would cost $5.25 USD. Beer was the same price and it had Guinness. Unfortunately, I had something like three dollars and some change. A woman offered me a ginger ale and wanted to have sex a little later.

The country I couldn't even pronounce in my dream and I couldn't remember how it was spelled.

That's about how my dreams go. There is more to this one but it's fading away.

Yes!

In what way are your dreams different?

Mine feel more real, even if impossibly weird.

That is not for public discussion ;)

The other night I dreamed that I was showing an alien around Earth.  The alien was behind me the entire time, so I never saw it, but I remember being very excited about showing it the Pacific Ocean up close.

That's a little weirder than normal, esp. since I was in this dream (I'm usually not) and the subject of it wasn't.

Last night I dreamt my puppy Joy took my slipper from this dimension of reality and hid it in a parallel universe, where I couldn't go. It was a very odd dream, but based on mundane, everyday worries.  ;D She takes my slipper every opportunity she gets.  ::)

Last night I dreamed that I was a 30 something engineer at a manufacturing plant.  I often brought vellums (original drawings that I had done) to the young woman who operated the Ozalid machine.  hat is the machine that makes blue prints by using the original drawings as a pattern.

She was 20 something, a hottie, and suspected of being a little bit loose. She was hitting on me big time and continuously.  I am a single guy with no current relationships.  This is really tempting......My better angels and common sense say to leave this one alone.  My testosterone is telling me to grab the brass ring .....Dammit, I woke up before I was able to resolve the dilemma.

there is no waiting-until-they-are-ready stuff

if they have a chance to do something meaningful then i tell them to cut the cords and do it

not specifically hotties atthe ozalid but you know what i mean

i was lucky enough to be able to throw my life away for the love of my life and its been fire and ice for 27 years

You know those dreams in which you go out in public and realise (too late) that you're not wearing pants or are entirely naked? Well, last night was the second time this week I dreamt I went out without a mask and felt similarly vulnerable.  :panic:

Who would have thought a couple of years back that face mask anxiety would also generate such dreams? ::)

I think I understand.  :notsure:
I still can't get over how strange it is to have to get used to hanging my keys and my mask in the same place all the time.  :sadshake:

I think, for the same reason, I had a strange dream the other day:
I had survived the zombie apocalypse and I lived with a large group of people who were constantly moving from building to building, running, always running from the zombies. We slept wherever we could. We were always protected by armed guards. One time I found myself resting on a bed, like this one:

I was alone, tired and scared. I remember thinking, "I survived, but...I'm not happy I did."  :cryandrun:

Weird, because I'm not into zombies. At all. :chin:

I just suddenly realized what Silver meant by "face masks". I was thinking Halloween. She's talking about the medical masks which I always wear when I go out. I wear two, one for the face and one for the trach. I'm not taking any chances.

I feel kind of dumb right now for missing that.

So...last night I dreamt my sister (who is an incurable drug addict and alcoholic) stole my clothes and hid them so she could trade them for drugs. She has the beginnings of alcohol-related dementia which affects her memory and in my dream she couldn't remember where she put them.

In my sleep I was consumed by this really intense rage like I haven't felt in a long time. My brain must have loosened the 'brakes'. Man!

last night there was a bobcat out in hallway. they're pretty common, buut you don't see them often because they're usually good at staying out of sight. not this one. i went out there and it was pacing around at the top of the stairs, actingb oddly. it was small for a bobcat, not much larger than a s large cat, and didn't try to escape. just paced back and s forth.

rabid, i thought, and went to get a stick to shooo it out.

when i came back the bobcat had turned into a copperhead, which is smaller pit viper that lives around here. related to cottonmouths. th ebite is intenseley painful but not fatal, usually. still, not cool in the house. ii smacked it on the neck, causing some damage but not killing it. so i continued smacking it until my wife said

stop!

i answered, it's okay, i'm killing a snake.

no you're not, she said, you're hitting ME

so then i woke completely up and apologized

but the snake got away

I dreamt I was responsible for an entire litter of GSD puppies. I left them with my brother in his apartment just before he left to travel for a couple of weeks so I would have to go there several times a day to feed them, make sure they had water, were clean and happy, etc. I did so the first morning, then went to the mall to kill time, but when I realised it was already night time and I had left more than 10 young puppies by themselves without food or water. I grew desperate but couldn't leave the mall for some reason. I walked and walked, looking for an exit but found none. Then I woke up.

I had a couple of nightmares last night which caused me to wake up feeling like I had been hit by a truck. Tense neck and shoulders.

First, I dreamt my entire family died of covid-related complications, including me. Well, I didn't die (what would death in a dream even look like?), but was sick and dying for what seemed to be the longest time. That sucked. I woke up sweaty at 2 a.m. and was unable to fall asleep quickly.

Next up, a weird dream in which I was trying to get a door to a starship open so me and some other guy I know could get in and leave this dying planet which was going to erupt very soon. In order to open the door, one had to insert a CD into a CD-ROM drive, much like one in old computers. I had the CD but it was broken and useless. Also, the CD was for a retro game, and not some necessary software to open a door.

Watch what you eat before bedtime. Those dreams are really out there!

I know right?  :???:

I didn't eat anything very different from what I usually eat for dinner -- a sandwich. But there was mayo last time. Maybe I was trippin' on the stuff.  :P
Maybe you discovered a new drug with mayonnaise, You could market it!

I...might.

Last night's dream was just as odd as most, but also strangely beautiful.

I was on the border, stuck between two worlds divided by an imaginary line. On one side, a the maze of high sand dunes that seemed to stretch forever rose high. On the other, like the merging of two completely different biomes, sand dunes coexisted with rainforest trees and waterfalls.

I saw one dune that was different from the others, it was higher, and had blue stripes all around it. From up high, blue sand fell like a waterfall -- sandfall? -- that collected in a small "puddle" at the foot of the dune, amidst green trees and bushes. There was a woman toiling in the blue spot, about the size of a bathtub, with a paddle. Where she dug the blue turned to red.

I asked her why she did that, to which she replied in order to keep the two magical worlds apart at the border she had to turn blue sand into red.

I was intrigued, but then I woke up.

The other night I had a dream that I basically had the force.

I was sitting in the room and I looked at the door and it closed. Then I made a chest come towards me. After lifting the dresser, I told myself, this must be a dream. Normally, when a dream is getting weird, or peculiar, and I tell myself that it is a dream, I either wake up, or take control of the dream. That was not the case here. The powers continued, I then tried to move the bed, it broke. I spent the rest of the dream trying to put the bed back together. Upon waking, it took several minutes before I realized I did not have these powers.

Silver is having some far out, weird, dreams.  All that brainiac stuff that she does as a career may be messing with her own head.....................or is she into some kind of secret Brazilian sauce or maybe exotic Amazonian weed?

I have lucid dreams from time-to-time. Like No One they usually happen when the scene goes wonky.

I read the article. There's something new to learn all the time.

I had a couple of oddball dreams lately.

A few nights ago I dreamed I went to a doctor about a mysterious, persistent pain in my midsection.  After tests he told me I had a prostate problem and also my insides where all male.  The dream ended before I could ask any questions about that, such as then what's with my outsides?

Last night I dreamed that I was working in some kind of boutique market, in charge of a corner that sold spices and prepared baked goods to demonstrate the spices.  Alec Baldwin seemed to be in charge of the store as he was going around to all the sections seeing if they were running properly. When he got to mine he quizzed me about what I was going to make to show off the spices and I mentioned maybe a chocolate cake or cupcakes with chili powder.  Or possibly a banana cake with a dash of chili powder.  Now I'm wondering if a banana-chili cake might actually be good.  Hate to waste the bananas if it's not.

Just before going to bed I looked up some models and prices for pre-fabricated houses. I'm hoping to build one by the end of the year so I can move out of this rented house and save some money long-term. Thing is, I only have the budget for a small, apartment-sized  house (like 50 - 80 m2). The anxiety seeped into my dreams at night because I dreamt I ordered one house online and when it came in the mail it was a doll house. ::)

Ok, during my prolonged afternoon nap I dreamt I was living in an empty swimming pool (...?) and the landlady (of my current real life home) was looking for my mother, who was in another city admiring shipping container doors. The landlady insisted I call my mother and ask her to bring the architecture plans for the swimming pool, for some reason.
