Post by: MarcusA on April 24, 2023, 11:44:25 PM
There's no such thing as genius in the sciences, there's only developed talent.

A genius is a stand-alone giant  in their field of endeavour and does not exist. A scientist is only as good as the company that they keep and people who came before them. Science, as well as art, the mirror image of science, is a co-operative effort of endurance.

It doesn't matter if he doesn't or does. People will still think that genius is a gift from him.

Not much point arguing over odd personal definitions.

A person who did amazing things before they were thirty, but after nothing of note.
Is that person a still considered a genius at 50?  An honorary but not active genius?
Keith is still a genius although he's past his best.
Ye of course Keith is, that goes without saying.

Genius is a too easily attributed word for human effort.

Trump has claimed to be a genius. He has succeeded in changing the way half the people in the US think and what they choose to believe.

I'm going with the likes of Aristotle, Descartes, Newton, Schubert in his own way, and a lot more of them to whom we could accord genius level, or at the very least, extraordinary mental capacity...... Ghenghis Kahn was a sort of genius in his own time.  He is said to have invented the platoon system that we still use to this day.

Carry on..............

Science is a force for good and evil that requires teamwork to maximise the Good across all levels.
