Title: Kurdistan referendum
Post by: SisterAgatha on September 27, 2017, 04:53:10 AM
The Kurds of Northern Iraq seem to want their very own state! https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2017/09/26/iraqi-kurds-voted-in-their-independence-referendum-now-what/?utm_term=.b9aaedfc7f1f

The question is what will happen once they get it? I feel they should have given how poorly treated the've been over the years.

What will happen now? Will there be a war? peace? reconciliation?

Coincidentally once things cool down there a bit, I would dearly love to visit Kurdistan.

Does it not look lovely? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghemj62q3Ig

If the Kurds are going to get their own state there will have to be a war. The war may or not come immediately but it will happen and they will have to win at the expense of larger, more powerful neighbors.

Then there is the oil in the Kurdish area.  The Iraqis want the oil and the Turks do not like them much.  They are between a rock and a hard spot.

No Sister Agatha I do not think that the place is pretty.  Forbidding maybe.

In an ideal world the Kurds would have control over their own country. As other members have pointed out, Turkey and Iraq are unlikely to ever willingly allow it.

In an ideal world, there wouldn't be any humans. (https://www.happyatheistforum.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fweb.stardock.net%2Fimages%2Fsmiles%2Fthemes%2Fdigicons%2FThumbs%2520Up.png&hash=e8ea77880ad2978fd09f5791a5436d85008666d2)

Kurdistan just looks so lovely.

I may ask the mother superior to let me and the other nuns check it out!
