Title: Seeking the Names/URLs of Atheist/Humanist Run Charities
Post by: Kylyssa on December 20, 2009, 08:41:18 PM
I'm looking for atheist/humanist run charities. What each charity gets out of it is a little free publicity. What I get out of it is a nice article/resource page. What the community gets out of it is a nice resource page of atheist/humanist run charities.

So, if you know of any atheist/humanist run charities please drop me a line or leave their name and information here.

North Texas Church of Freethought http://www.churchoffreethought.org/ (http://www.churchoffreethought.org/)  Helps to organize secular outreach in DFW.  Activities include holiday gift collects for needy kids, blood drives, foxhole atheist (donations of items for deployed atheists), can collection for local secular food banks, participated in the Dallas Memory Walk, highway adoptions, offering a lot of support for Camp Quest Texas and keeps on adding new activities to their outreach program.

Atheists Helping the Homeless:  http://www.atheistvolunteers.org/Austin (http://www.atheistvolunteers.org/Austin) purpose is self explanatory

Secular Center USA http://www.secularcenterusa.org/ (http://www.secularcenterusa.org/) does various secular volunteer activities including, food bank donations, Humane Society Dog Walk, helping at an animal shelter, and organizing a raffle for Camp Quest Texas.

Awesome!  I'm up to about thirty great atheist/humanist charities now and I've begun work on a page.  This is quite exciting!

Wow, I'm up to about 100 charities now!  I went ahead and put up the page with just a few of them on it because, by the time I write summaries for all these organizations between my paying jobs, a lot of time would go by.  I plan to add them one at a time as time permits.  The Gates Foundation will probably need its own page as will the Atheist Centre of India, though I took a stab at summarizing the Atheist Centre.

So, here's the work-in-progress:
