Title: HAF Cutlery
Post by: Magdalena on February 07, 2016, 04:34:46 AM
How come some of you don't have a knife, a spoon, a fork, or a spork?

The Magic Pudding vanished. Never saw him again, not even lurking. Though every so often I feel like I catch a little whiff, but it's probably just my imagination.

Maybe we should send him a fax, or something. You know, telling him that we miss him and stuff.
Does he know how important he is around here? He's the only one we depend on when we need...spoons, and stuff.  :)

:secrets1: I want to introduce you to Asmo. One conversation with Him and your posts will soar through the air.  ;D

I have heard from a reliable source that:
- he had a rma dispute with a hard drive manufacturer
- got himself swallowed by a lizard
- using wasp zombie tech took control of said lizard and headed north
- through Pudding's amazing power of regeneration the lizard grew to Godzilla proportions
- he should be emerging from the sea any day to wreak vengeance on an unsuspecting Seagate factory

I like you too. It's really fine if people do not like me, we all like and dislike people, so it's no big deal if I fall into someone else's dislike pile. Also, I might be wrong, that happens a lot. Many people requested one and I never did.

Well he is/was a misanthrope after all, not liking is what they do.
I've been looking through his stuff and I don't see much to indicate he particularly disliked you.
Do you know a Git person, he didn't seem to like him at all, so many plans, plans upon plans, an insidious disruption of a property settlement is the most recent.

Our silversmith hasn't been around in some time, in any of his guises. A bit worrying, but such is the nature of internet message boards. You certainly qualify for a piece if you'd like. If none of those you can find in this thread seems fit, I could try to stand in for him in creating one, but don't expect I'd be able to match the quality he produced.  :sad sigh:

Well I like giraffes and owls and spoons, but if the silversmith is a bit busy, the tree of knowledge fork with apple would be most acceptable. 😄

OK, here's a rough and ready stand-in spoon. The resolution isn't great, and maybe you can pick a better owl (doesn't matter what size, I can work with whatever you choose) but it's something for now. If this one is OK I can help you add it to your signature if you'd like, and we can hope that the real silversmith shows up again to produce an original at some point.

Forks - because we eat up the camaraderie here.
Corkscrews - because we like winers, but not whiners.

Could you please create a few corkscrews? I'm sure people who prefer corkscrews would also like to select from a variety of corkscrew designs.
What do you think?  :eyebrow:

I am thinking between a corkscrew and a fork. (I don't know if I'm at the appropriate amount of posts yet but I thought I would throw my ideas in)

So I came up with a great idea, if some are willing to go along with it. (Or maybe my ego just went to my head) What do you guys think represents me more: the fork or the corkscrew?

I suppose I don't know what accessory would represent me most either but I'll leave the cutlery to you guys.

What do you think?  :eyebrow:

That's an interesting thought, and yes, I'd be willing to try it at some point. I may have some time on my hands later this month. Feel free to remind me if nothing has appeared by September.  :)
Thank you, Recusant.
You see? One person is already thinking about it.  :)

You're more like a Medium Pocket Knife with Compass.  :rimshot:

OK, here's a rough and ready stand-in spoon. The resolution isn't great, and maybe you can pick a better owl (doesn't matter what size, I can work with whatever you choose) but it's something for now. If this one is OK I can help you add it to your signature if you'd like, and we can hope that the real silversmith shows up again to produce an original at some point.

Oh noo Recusant. I feel so bad haha. I don't know how many people would get the reference....however the camo does suit it well into the "multidimensional" shtick that Magdalena was going on about. And it also implies the "there is no x" that SP was saying too. I like it but I don't want to nitpick, I'm just not certain on the plastic portion of it.

EDIT: Wait where did it go?

The line between, I pause to stroke my chin and sigh.
It is of cause obviously "woman".
No, it doesn't represent woman, it is, "woman".
No it's not a clumsy yellow crayoning you fuck head.
I engaged three models to catch her just right.
How could I do justice to "woman" with less?
Of course I had to hire and wear a bull head mask.
No you don't see the mask but the models did,

WHAT ABOUT THIS?

Today, a cornucopia of dragonflies by René Lalique. They are very desirable examples of Art Nouveau design.

If simplicity is so desirable why bother with such do dads at all?
It's not as if they do anything useful, like move sugar and stir tea.
Simplicity is the 50 cent stainless steel spoon most everyone uses.

Your opinion means nothing to me anyway.
You are a mere consumer, I am a creatOR.

I spent a chunk of the HAF budget on airfare and accommodation,
did the burglary for nothen to get the basis of that spoon.

Let me guess...
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

Yes, mock if you must. But at least you haven't forgotten me.
I have not forgotten you...Probably never will.

I'm not mocking you. That spoon is soooooo you.

Thank you.

I think this one reflects my love of simplicity better:

Love of forken simplicity?

WHAT ABOUT THIS?

Quote from: hermes2015 on April 17, 2018, 05:12:25 AM
Today, a cornucopia of dragonflies by René Lalique. They are very desirable examples of Art Nouveau design.

If simplicity is so desirable why bother with such do dads at all?
It's not as if they do anything useful, like move sugar and stir tea.
Simplicity is the 50 cent stainless steel spoon most everyone uses.

Your opinion means nothing to me anyway.
You are a mere consumer, I am a creatOR.

I spent a chunk of the HAF budget on airfare and accommodation,
did the burglary for nothen to get the basis of that spoon.

And, and, it wasn't for you anyway, ner ner ner ner :snooty:

I guess it does sound strange, but my preference is to live in a very pared-down way. No chintz and doilies at home for me. That does not mean I don't appreciate Lalique's jewellery.

He wasn't enamored with my effort (see upthread, though the actual item is no longer on view), but I don't have the manner of a prestigious silversmith. They peer at you from under their optivisor with an air of weary superiority and inform you that you're lucky to get a product of their renowned house. The understated haughtiness does it nearly every time. Perhaps with you he'll be a bit more forthcoming regarding what would please him.

Ye but some may see sig pics as clutter and that's fair enough.

And, you can mirror the Haf logo fish (photoshop edit/transform/flip vertical) if its running vertically, but if it's horizontal it has to go with tail on the right, or else the letters are backwards.  The "Herems" spoon had to face that way because the fish did, it just had to.

I didn't get the emboss effect to work as well as I'd like, too few pixels to work with I suppose.

One would need ZBrush, Cinema 4D, or Rhino to do embossing well. Are you using PhotoShop? I am working on some consulting projects at the moment, but may try it myself when the pressure is off.

I use photoshop CS2 with eye candy and KPT effects, it's effectively free but a bit clunky to use.

I'm pretty sure it's Whitney's, she's an architect, a person that draws.
I just grab it from top of the HAF page.
It might be worth recreating it in Illustrator or photoshop.

Of course.

Did you download the atheist fish symbol, or did you create it?

Whitney or one of the original member probably created it.

I'm pretty sure it's Whitney's, she's an architect, a person that draws.
I just grab it from top of the HAF page.
It might be worth recreating it in Illustrator or photoshop.

I've grabbed it now from the top of the HAF page and converted the pixellated bitmap to a vector image in CorelDraw. Here it is after some cleaning up:

That will probably help you. If you want the original JPG file, let me know and I'll PM it to you. I am going to play with it and convert it to a 3D object that can be manipulated in Rhino and Cinema 4D, just for fun.

Preferably one that can be portrayed in a limited pixel cutlery form

I could stick a HAF fish on Phineas Gage's steel rod.

I was thinking about this the other day...the main problem with just a skull is that after the rod pierced Gage's his behaviour changed drastically -- he became an impulsive man with some executive problems such as planning, emotional control, anitsocial etc., in other words, his personality changed for the worse. A picture of a skull pierced by rod with the HAF emblem in the same brain area might give off the wrong idea. :notsure:

No I won't and your request shows a disrespect for time honoured institutions.
It's people like you that allow a widespread disrespect for rules to develop.
You act like rules are for the unwashed to follow, not your self categorized elite.
And what's more I blame you and your ilk for the rise of Trump.
And Hitler.
Ye, we blame you for the rise of Hitler too.
And his ilk.
Ye, you and your dirty decadent ilk.

If we're sticking with big long sticks adapted for sticking people you'll probably have to describe your aspirations.
I don't think he liked the use of  curtain rods.

But it's in the bible, lances to curtain rods, book of Isaiah I think.

Come on now, summon our inner Ollivander

OK, ommmmmmmhaererrrrhkhkhkherrrommmmmm

You forge metal, make tools.
I could use a fish like on Blue Nose's compass but a chisel with a dainty fish on the end isn't going to work, so an option is having it stamped into the metal.
Do you have a creation you like that I can add the HAF logo to?

Easy for me to say. I know, from trying to help by creating things for members while our real silversmith was scarce, that it's not always a simple matter to craft fine cutlery. My respect to the master.

 Thanks! I love Sudoku! I play a couple of games online every day. I'll see about reducing the size. That size is close to actual. I see that BP II makes some of the cutlery, but I always try to handle my own stuff, and I didn't want to impose.

No, we don't allow file uploads (including images). Doing so would leave us open to abuse of background file transfer eg child porn. So it's not allowed.

Bugger. You obviously didn't download a copy :(

No.  This site doesn't allow us to upload images, so I just used the link I was given.  Next time I'll know better, if there is a next time.  Oh, well...

No, we don't allow file uploads (including images). Doing so would leave us open to abuse of background file transfer eg child porn. So it's not allowed.

Not complaining, just explaining.  I fully understand the reason for the restriction and support it

Excellent! I tried looking for the image in older cached versions of this site but had no luck. I'm glad BP sent you the link. :)

I've downloaded mine as well, just in case.

As a place-holder more than anything else, this shade-tree silversmith got together a Guinness pouring spoon. It's more in the way of a request to be bettered by the maestro (https://www.happyatheistforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=16821.msg409019#msg409019), but there it is.  ;)

Thanks BP!

I think I might have a go at converting a regular spoon into one of those.
I've got a few pale bottles left, I'm consuming dark ale, it's autumn, not into the serious stout yet, but soon.

Next month is winter, so it'll be time to consume last years stout.
I bottled 2x23 litres of stout for next winter last week, 2 more next week and 2 more 2 weeks later, for next winter.

I wouldn't have let lazy mouse in.

I miss a good stout! I'd keep some in the entertainment room in the small refrigerator so when it was movie night, or game playing, I'd have some nice and chilled.
