Title: Upcoming movies that have you psyched!
Post by: xSilverPhinx on September 29, 2018, 02:02:52 AM

It's probably not even going to be all good, but it looks fun.

I can't think of any. I believe Hollywood forgot how to make good movies. The last movie I was interested in was the last Hobbit movie.

I'm a sucker for Robin Hood movies, even profoundly historically inaccurate ones.

And also Holmes & Watson movies, even profoundly bad ones.  Esp. with John C. Reilly in them.

Continuing the me and silly movies theme, Aquaman.  It's like three low blows, all at once.

The Hobbit trilogy wasn't all that good IMO, especially because LotR set the bar pretty high, but they were decent enough "popcorn flicks". You go into the theatre with high expectations and you usually set yourself up to feel let down.

Love those two trailers, for different reasons.

Whlie the Hobbit trilogy was not on par with The Lord Of The Rings, it is infinitely better the the general rubbish churned out by the hollywood greed driven steamroller.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the trilogy, and was super psyched when it was first announced that they were being made. I just think it didn't need to be a trilogy, unlike the LotR. A lot of unnecessary sausage-filling going on in the Hobbit movies.

It depends on how you meant that.   :eyebrow:

I meant it in the sense that a lot of extra material gets stuffed into a sausage that doesn't necessarily contribute to the meaty taste, just to make a bigger sausage. It's an expression around these parts, used when a film or book has a lot of stuff that doesn't necessarily contribute to the plot and was put there just to make a longer movie or add pages to a book.

In the case of the Hobbit trilogy, it didn't need to be a trilogy.

OoooKay.  I don't know what Tank was thinking, but in the States "sausages" as slang refers to men, and what they do with their "sausages".  Your comment got quite the little visual going.

There is that one movie coming out where that guy does that thing, before he has to do that really big thing.

The new one? Better or worse than Kevin Costner flick? The only saving grace there was Alan Rickman. He'll always be The Sheriff to me.

Yes, the new one. It was way worse than the Kevin Costner movie, even though there was no Kevin Costner in it.

Take a bucketload of bunch of clichés, sprinkle a handful of underwhelming performance by the lead actor and mix those with a boringly predictable plot and you'll get Robin Hood (2018).  Best served in very small portions.

I think the Holmes/Watson on is the only one I'm vaguely interested in seeing... Maybe when it is free on Netflix.

I know one I won't want to see, though:

^ That trailer is so odd the movie is likely to be one of two things: great or godawful. I think it's more likely to be the latter, though. Even so, I will probably watch it, just because I like to torture myself.

I can't get past the concept. Apparently, according to reviews, the execution is also severely lacking. But it is strong on budget and special effects.

Ah, Hugo Weaving.  I'll never be able to see his face again without thinking "Elrond".

There's a biopic of the last years of Laurel and Hardy coming out that I'm interested in, esp. since John C. Reilly is playing Hardy.  As much as I hate the movies he's in with his pal Will Farrell, I think Reilly is a fine and badly under-appreciated dramatic actor.

Tolkien's story could be interesting but I don't like the tone of that trailer.

Do it low budget and tasteful, it doesn't call for blockbuster bullshit.

I always see Hugo Weaving as Anthony in "Priscilla", a brilliant movie that proved that greatness does not depend on a huge budget.

I'm hoping it'll turn out like the Lord of Rings movies: high budget, lots of special effects but a good and compelling story. The story part is the hardest to get right it seems, but Tolkien was an exceptional person. It shouldn't be too hard to adapt parts of his interesting life into film...

Like Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter?

Um...there was way too much weirdness in that film to be taken seriously, based on the trailer. As for the film, I wouldn't know really, I skipped that one when it came to theaters.

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter

I'm liking the soundtrack, though.

Tolkien's story could be interesting but I don't like the tone of that trailer.

Do it low budget and tasteful, it doesn't call for blockbuster bullshit.

Hear hear!

That was the worst movie I have actually managed to sit through!

I read a lot of hate about disney remaking their movies into Live action, but personally I enjoy those. Lion king is one I;m p articulately awaiting for.  It was my fav. movie when I was a kid.
This also has me excited

This is my fav. version of godzilla (come at me japanophiles :P) and I;m glad he's a "good" guy

Yes MariaEvri, I also saw that the live action adaptation are getting lots of hate, but as far as those movies are concerned, if people feel it destroys their childhood they just shouldn't watch it and leave the rest of us alone to see it in peace. :P

The Lion King was by far my favourite animation when I was a kid as well and it seems like this new adaptation is not only for those of us who like that sort of thing but also for a new generation.

Also, the classics still exist if people prefer them.

Watched 'The Lion King' last night and enjoyed it very much. Definitely brought back all those memories of my childhood when I must have watched the cartoon version about 7 or 8 times in the movie theater.

Very impressed with just how far animation has gone in recent years and I really hope hyper-realism really becomes a thing in years to come.

(I would recommend watching this film in 3D)

The photorealism was impressive. As for really good, depends on what your expectations for the story/plot are.

It was almost exactly the same as the original. I blame loud annoying people who complain if anything in a remake/redux/re-whatever, was different from their precious childhood versions.

It was as good as the original, and the CGI was very impressive.

Yeah, I heard about that a while ago. My response: Hope its not shit. The 4-part mini series was rubbish.
Villeneuve has good pedigree. I liked Arrival. Haven't seen Blade runner...yet.

IP Man 4

Since taking on a diet of martial arts movies in the past couple of years, this one is looking good. Donnie Yen, of course, along with Scott Adkins. Gonna be good. Recommend the whole series - true, but dramatised stories of the man that trained Bruce Lee.

And, of course Adkins' Boyka. 👌

Blade Runner 2049 is worth a watch. Any sequel was going to struggle to follow such a cult classic. It's on Netflix if you have that.

I am excited for the new Dune. Still a big fan of the David Lynch version.

Wheel of time I think can work as a series. Definitely not as movies.

I really like this series, and Donnie Yen in his other movies. Even if the premise is a bit cheesy for some of his other movies, I still like them.

One man's cheese is another man's caviar. That's the genre! Often they're just the vehicle for the fighting so I don't tend to mind if the acting is cardboard or the walls made of paper... (😉)

I have a hard drive full of eastern movies a friend lent me. Most are unwatchable.

Interested to see how Dune comes out. Not a fan of the David Lynch one.

As for Star Wars, I feel like it's my duty to see the final (ish) film.
Might be good... maybe.
