The Magic Pudding

QuoteThe International Program on the State of the Oceans report brought together coral reef ecologists, toxicologists and fisheries scientists.

And when they compared notes, the result was grim.

Co-author Professor Ove Hoegh Guldberg, who specialises in reef ecosystems, says scientists found "unprecedented warming".

"We're seeing acidification in the ocean and now we're starting to see a drop in oxygen concentration throughout the major part of the ocean," he said.

This particular story has been doing the rounds for the last couple of weeks. Nothing catches the eyes of bloggers and editors like a catastrophe story.

I'm curious to see if any adaptations are given the opportunity to be naturally selected in this new, empty ocean situation. Perhaps entire species of inedible fish will flourish.
I want bad people to look forward to and celebrate the day I die, because if they don't, I'm not living up to my potential.

They are. They are called jelly fish. The reduction in pelagic plankton eaters has vastly increased the number of jelly fish surviving.

Damn it, that pisses me off. We all share this ONE planet, yet some people rarely think about the effects of their being here.

Overfishing, trash in the ocean, etc. I was hoping i'd work on a starship someday, but i'm actually afraid we are going to kill ourselves before "any" rapture.

I look at post apocolyptic movies now, and that future seems more and more likely.... ;_;

Homer:"No! Faith is what you have in things that don't exist. Your awesomeness is real."

"I was thinking that perhaps this thing called God does not exist. Because He cannot save any one of us. No matter how we pray, He doesn't mend our wounds.

Call me a skeptic, but do these scientists still have jobs if devastation is not on the immediate horizon? It seems to me they like to blow things out of proportion so they continue to get funding.

They probably would have jobs. They found what they found in the course of their basic research. They might well be carrying out work into how to grow bigger better fish. I'm sure that some people do make money as professional scare mongers, but these are usually journalists working for tabloid rags.
