Icarus

I will post some pix as time goes by.  My pictures will be primitive compared to the brilliant photographs that some of our HAFers share.  I will use (try to use) pix to illustrate some sort of idea only.

Oddly, in the past dark ages, I was a photography enthusiast with a good darkroom and have spent a lot of time with film.  The new digital method is light years ahead of anything that I might have done with film.  Oh well I still have some decent, for its day, 35 mm cameras and lens and filters and all that kind of now useless goodies.  I need that stuff like I need a paper ass.

My area of interest was mostly in high contrast B&W.  I was disappointed to learn that Ansel Adams I ain't. What the hell, I even had a huge view camera and a big 4x5 Speed Graphic. My damned I phone can now take better pictures.  All that was fun while it lasted.

Every picture has worth. It captures a story and tells a story of the person behind the camera. Can't wait to see more  :)

I did the same, Icarus. Yes, one of the people I tried to emulate was indeed the great Ansel Adams; I even adopted his Zone System, as I am sure you did as well, but to no avail! I remained a bumbling amateur.

Help!  I am trying to learn to post photos from my IPhone using Imageshack.  I know how to upload to the server, but I can't get the hang of copying the URL on the uploaded photo so I am post it on the forum.  It has a bunch of numbers, and then it goes to ..., meaning there are more numbers, but I can seem to get to those numbers to copy them.  Without that, I don't have the whole URL.  Anybody use Imageshack with an IPhone?

Vocaloldfart

I have several images that I would like to post in discussions. The problem is that these are on my hard drives.
System security being paramount, downloading files and images from a URL address is both foolhardy and dangerous.
There are a multiple of security websites within TOR that warn and explain the dangers of embedded R.A.T.S, and other hackers tools.

I ask is there any way to post images and files without a URL address??
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.

Dark Lightning

I have images on imgur that I post. It seems to be only the atheist forums that require image hosting, as opposed to directly posting images from one's hard drive.  Can't tell dirty jokes directly in other forums, so we go back and forth on PM. Dirty jokes are OK in the open on the atheist forums.. Strange dichotomy, to say the least.

My apologies, somehow I missed this post several years ago and you never got a reply. I don't use Imageshack with an IPhone, so I'm not going to even try to advise you. I did find this, but I imagine you already found something along that line yourself by now!

Hope you're enjoying (or did enjoy) your travels.  :)

As for why this site doesn't support direct upload of images, I think it has to do with trying to keep the database relatively lean, which keeps the hosting cost down. That's my recollection at any rate.

I'm with those who use Imgur. It's till free to use. It's been around for a good while, but that's no guarantee things won't change at some point. I used another free image hosting site years ago which closed up shop leaving a lot of dead image links in its wake. Of course there are relatively inexpensive paid image hosting sites which one would hope are more durable.

There are two reasons HAF does not allow the download of images. First is size. We run on a small budget and images require a disproportionate amount of storage space and bandwidth and we are not an image hosting site. The second is security. If images could be downloaded they can be shared in private messages and never appear on the site. Unless the staff moderated every image people could abuse the site to transfer illegal images and or documents.
