You are probably gone by now but - "Good luck!"

It went better than my last doctor visit but I still came close to walking out. I'll probably need surgery though and I'm scheduled at a "discount" mri facility to confirm.

Let's hope they find something fixable, or it just goes away. But I am guessing it will be an expensive "cure" whichever applies.

Did they give you any idea what is wrong?

Likely a herniated disc in my neck. I have to schedule an mri before they decide on surgery.

Do you have any idea what caused it?

The first sentence in the OP on this thread from 2007 by Steve Reason:

"So is this a good idea for a thread?"

860 pages and 11 years later, I'd say it was a good idea.

What ever happened to Mr. Reason?  I wonder if he is aware of his legacy.

Steve's last post here was about losing his home in Oregon. I've wondered aloud whether he found his feet again but nobody seems to have heard from him.

Philosophical reflection: we usually do not realize our impact on the world. We may die in pain and obscurity, but we have made some level of impact and significance. I hope that Steve Reason has realized his contribution.

I also hope Steve Reason has sorted his problems out and is comfortable with life. IIRC was a member of The Thinking Atheist who lost his home in a natural disaster, the other members did something to help - they certainly gave him lots of "moral support" and there may have been some "material" support.

I can't decide if I want to take one of the very few pain pills I have been issued to make it through tonight at work or endure the agony. It feels like my arm is falling off, twisting like a corded telephone at the end of its tangled line. My sling helps with that unsettling feeling and the accompanying nausea but brings different pain in my shoulder and neck.
