The Melting Pot.
:felix:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melting_pot

QuoteThe melting pot is a monocultural metaphor for a heterogeneous society becoming more homogeneous, the different elements "melting together" with a common culture; an alternative being a homogeneous society becoming more heterogeneous through the influx of foreign elements with different cultural backgrounds, possessing the potential to create disharmony within the previous culture. Historically, it is often used to describe the cultural integration of immigrants to the United States.[1]

I'm more into a salad bowl idea.

QuoteThe "salad bowl" metaphor is a different view describing that immigrants who come to America combine their cultures with others, but still retain their own cultural identity.

But, but Mags it was a hippie dream!
It seems you're rejecting a recipe for a get along scene

QuoteTake a pinch of white man
Wrap him up in black skin
Add a touch of blue blood
And a little bitty bit of red Indian boy
Oh like a Curly Latin kinkies
Oh Lordy, Lordy, mixed with yellow Chinkees, yeah
You know you lump it all together
And you got a recipe for a get along scene
Oh what a beautiful dream
If it could only come true, you know, you know

I've thought of that song in recent years, how thinking has diverged.
It's a shame I think, I could definitely do with a bit more melanin.

Take my advice, don't listen to me.

How do you know it's the clutch?

i don't. i cant figure it out. its a groaning rumble that occurs when disengage the clutch, sometimes. it will persist after i engage a gear and engage the clucth, but i can make it go away if i depress the clutch pedal again, shift into neutral, back into gear and re-engage the clutch.

its not a throwout bearing becaue its intermittent, and doesnt shriek like they do. its not related to rpm, because when it happens i can throttle up or down and th epitch and the volume doesnt change. the gearshift lever doesn't torque under load, so its not a bad side motor mount. i thought it might be a spring in the clutch disc that was out of place, but there's no shriek and the noise continues even with the clutch reengaged.

im wondering if theres a linkage misalignment that allows something to rest against the bell housing and transmit sympathetic vibrations.

it ccurs when shifting into the bttom trhee gears. i wondered whetherit was a nose bearing on the transmission input shaft, but its not always there.

so i dunno.

i brought it back and turned it over to my my bosses. one of them is a professional diese machanic, so he can do that and also the HVAC blower that died yesterday.

this tractor is maybe 23 years old, so little stuff is weird all the time. but ive been living in it for four months now, and this is the first issue that merits a serious lookover so far.

set the function, not the mechanism.

Ultimately, America is supposed to be bound together by the ideas of liberty and equality, not cultural uniformity.  Hopefully, we can eventually live up to that ideal.  We are now more of a mixture than a compound.

You guys? have you seen some similar guys somewhere? Where?
I did look but gave up long ago.
I think you were right to, we don't need them.
I don't dislike The Village People

No, neither do I.

Oh that's lovely! she's found her people.
It's unlikely to last though.
You're probably right, I'm glad I've got you.

Take my advice, don't listen to me.

I do agree with the, green little man,

Anyways...

There is an alternative to The Melting Pot and The Salad Bowl...
"Lunchables".

Apart from the feathers on his head, one component of that salad looks quite edible.

My brother was in a terrible accident today. He rolled his truck four times. Broken neck, broken back, broken sternum, and broken ribs. Every airbag deployed except his.

That is terrible. I am truly sorry to hear that. It is a very long road to recovery.

Damn, it sounds like that was a near thing. I hope things go well for him in healing up.
