People forget that there is no such thing as nature anymore than there is a god or evolution.

Nature as most refer to it, as an entity, does not exist.

It is the nature of reality, that no change in results occurs where there is no change in challenge, and there is often no change in response even when there is a change in challenge, because of the lack of time. Certainly you and I can percieve a vast need for lions to evolve very quickly in order to compete with us, yet do you see any of this required evolution on demand?

The lion may go extinct, but perhaps  it has no need to survive, or is there another element?

Just like you and I reality can not see what?

Time, or no time. Reality is also not an entity.

What is the other element?

If there is no change where no need for any is percieved, not only is man likely now not changing into anything, but this points out that laziness is the nature of reality, or reality's default option is laziness or there is no change for the sake of change alone. Otherwise Bic pens would just appear everywhere until the universe was totally full of them!

Thus it is highly unlikely that the lion is evolving right now to compete with us, thus there is no such thing as evolution, there is only adaptation where time permits. Both the lion and we, have a massive need to become bullet proof.
