I dont know what a zeigiest is.
I was more interested in how the stories of gods were created because of astrology.
Not that astrology holds any water, just the orgins of the stuff.

I love that video.  Most of us have heard bits and pieces of all that, but this video puts it all together in one package.

The factuality of it though... HIGHLY disputable.

I get what the video is saying, it is drawing comparisons between Jesus and all the other sun gods in mythology to show that this figure comes from ancient people worshiping the sun and constellations and in fact was never a man at all.

What facts are disputable here?  And what's zeitgeist? I didn't even hear that name at all throughout the video.

thanks!

Are you maybe referring to the 9/11 conspiracy theory elements?  If so, those aren't in the YouTube clip.  The YouTube clip only has the universal sun god explanation, which, in the end, is a hypothesis rather than a conclusion, admittedly, but such a fun hypothesis!

The Magic Pudding

I'm sticking with the idea Jesus was a mushroom and didn't like the sun at all.
Mushrooms and religion grow well on bullshit, what more evidence is needed?

Me too.  They have one good point, though, and it's a legitimate criticism of the YouTube clip.  Exploiting the son/sun homophonic relationship, which only exists in English, is invalid when making a point about non-English speaking peoples.  Shame on those Zeitgeist guys!

Hello, and welcome to HAF, trexshinigami!

First, to get an overview of what "Zeitgeist" is, you can read the Wikipedia article about it.  It covers not only the main points which the movie tries to put forward, but also gives a pretty good idea of the general response to it.  My impression is that the movie has taken in many people who were really not familiar with issues it touches upon; it felt like an "eye-opening revelation" to them.  For those who've encountered the conspiracy theories and scholarly examination of the Jesus story as syncretism before, it generally looked like tarted up hogwash.  Those who already wear tinfoil hats and mutter about "one-worlders" ate that part of it up, though since many of them are devout Christians they hated the "Jesus myth" part I imagine.  They may not even have gotten to the part that they would be pumping their fists to and shouting "hell yeah," since Zeitgeist begins with it's examination of Jesus. Personally, I had to take the movie in over several sessions, because I found it's overall tone to be practically intolerable. I guess I have a low threshold for bullshit-- it often made me almost nauseous.

Looking at the claims made regarding the origin of the Jesus story, you could do worse than to read The Greatest Story Ever Garbled, by Tim Callahan of Skeptic Magazine.
