Living in the only christian nation in Asia and being a college professor, I thought I'd post this news and get the opinion of free-thinking people here.

Thanks for the link. It looks like dogma vs common sense again  :sigh:
If religions were TV channels atheism is turning the TV off.

We can't even say the vernacular term for penis and vagina because the norms forbid it. It has to be said in English.

Thank you for sharing this article.

Even more telling than the content of the article itself are the opinions of theists and believers posted to the comments section. I _might_ have been more sympathetic to them several decades ago, but research and program evaluations are clear in their findings that sexual education courses improve positive sexual behaviors - increased use of contraceptions, for example - and decreased probability of initiating sex at an early age (e.g., < 15 years-old). Religious adherents still cling to the tired argument that sex education "forces" children to think about sex (like they don't already do that on their own) and, therefore, encourages them to engage in sexual activity at an earlier age as a result, which is absolute rubbish, yet they still cite it as if it were fact. You'd think being that ignorant would be harder than simply facing reality.

Filipino Catholics (or maybe some other Christians) take heed on Noah's (or god's command to Noah) "Go forth and multiply." Unfortunately, Noah never mentioned "study the science of procreation."

I have an update regarding this on-going "war" between Catholics and pro-choice people (but not necessarily on abortion because our constitution bans it).

The first link is the full text of the Reproductive Health Bill being pushed for enactment in our congress:

This link is the Catholic stand on the proposal:

A priest bashing the bill:

This one's from people who claim to be rationalist secularists:

And this one from TED featuring Mr. Condom of Thailand, a neighboring country:

On Wednesday, the university will be hosting a forum regarding this bill. I wish to participate and some of my colleagues who teach philosophy are former theologians and priests gone haywire. I want to make a stand as an atheist in support of the bill (which I think needs refinement) and use science and statistics to counter their, most likely, religious logic. If you have any information that might help me in my solo struggle (I am the only atheist instructor in the university), feel free to reply.
